Jennifer Roberts won't run for Charlotte mayor
CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Former Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts has announced she will not run for mayor in the upcoming election.
Roberts sparked speculation last week after suggesting on social media that she was considering a campaign. The post drew significant public support, with many residents urging her to enter the race. However, after conversations with community members, friends, and family, Roberts ultimately decided the timing wasn't right.

Citing her current commitments and the demanding nature of the role, Roberts said she could not give the mayor's office the full-time attention it deserves.
While stepping away from the race, she pledged to remain active in civic life through ongoing work on climate, democracy, and racial justice initiatives.
With Roberts out, incumbent Mayor Vi Lyles and Democratic challenger Tigress Sydney Acute McDaniel remain the only announced candidates. The filing deadline is July 18.
