Colin Farrell in ‘Ballad of a Small Player': Everything to know about the new film from ‘Conclave' director Edward Berger
Colin Farrell knows how to play a man out of his depth, and that is exactly where he is finding himself in the new film from Conclave director Edward Berger, Ballad of a Small Player. Netflix, which is distributing, has just announced premiere dates for the film, as well as released a handful of first look images. Based on the novel by Lawrence Osbourne, the movie follows a high-stakes gambler (Farrell) who is lying low in Macau after his past debts begin to catch up with him. Who else stars in it? The film also stars Tilda Swinton, Fala Chen (Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire), Deannie Yip, and Alex Jennings (The Crown). Rowan Joffé (The American) wrote the screenplay. When does it come out? Ballad of a Small Player will open in U.S. theaters on Oct. 15, in U.K. and Irish cinemas two days later, and on Netflix Oct. 29. What are its award chances? The release could continue a hot streak for Berger, who, after All Quiet on the Western Front in 2022 and Conclave last year, has become somewhat of an awards season staple. He was nominated for an Academy Award for the screenplay for Western Front, and Conclave was nominated for eight Oscars, winning Adapted Screenplay for writer Peter Straughan. Farrell is also on an awards run himself, having just been Emmy nominated for his role in The Penguin, a part that already won him his second Golden Globe since 2023. Tilda's girl shows her own star quality as she turns on the style at Cartier car event
Her mother is movie royalty while her late father was a renowned Scots artist. But Honor Swinton Byrne showed her own star-quality at the Cartier Style et Luxe annual display of the finest cars, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, in West Sussex. The 27-year-old daughter of Oscar-winning actress Tilda and the playwright and artist John Byrne, who passed away in November 2023, looked stunning in her full-length chocolate-coloured dress and matching shoes. She is an aspiring actress having been plugged to take a lead role in the film, The Souvenir by her godmother, director Joanna Hogg, in 2019 plus a sequel in two years later. Ms Swinton Byrne also played Princess Beatrice in A Very Royal Scandal about Prince Andrew's disastrous BBC interview with Emily Maitlis. The London-born performer was brought up in the Highlands with her twin brother Xavier and went to school in the former royal burgh of Forres, on the Moray Coast.

Palestine Action block entry to weapons manufacturer ahead of proscription
In an Instagram post on Tuesday morning, the group said members had 'locked on to each other to prevent access' to Elbit Systems in Bristol, blocking the only entrance to the building. The group covered the building in red paint to 'symbolise Palestinian bloodshed'. In Suffolk, activists also occupied the rooftop of UK subcontractor Guardtech Group, posting an Instagram video stating that the firm is 'a subsidiary factory to Elbit Systems, the largest supplier of weapons to Israel'. READ MORE: Frankie Boyle and Tilda Swinton call for Labour not to ban Palestine Action It comes as a draft order was laid before Parliament to amend the Terrorism Act 2000 to include Palestine Action as a proscribed organisation. If approved, it would become a criminal offence to support or be part of the group, carrying a possible jail sentence of up to 14 years. MPs and peers are expected to debate the legislation on Wednesday and Thursday, and the ban could come into action as soon as Friday if approved. A Palestine Action spokesperson said: 'While the Government is rushing through Parliament absurd legislation to proscribe Palestine Action, the real terrorism is being committed in Gaza. 'Palestine Action affirms that direct action is necessary in the face of Israel's ongoing crimes against humanity of genocide, apartheid, and occupation, and to end British facilitation of those crimes.' A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed to PA News Agency that officers were called to Elbit Systems in Bristol at around 6.30am on Tuesday. 'Officers are responding to a protest involving two people at a premises at the Aztec West Business Park, in Almondsbury,' the spokeswoman said. 'We're committed to facilitating people's right to peaceful protest, but will not tolerate any criminal behaviour.' A number of celebrities have now signed an open letter urging the Government not to proscribe Palestine Action, which states: 'Palestine Action is intervening to stop a genocide. It is acting to save life.'
