Oakland police make arrest in fatal shooting of father
An Oakland man was fatally shot early Saturday after hosting a Fourth of July party for friends and neighbors, according to police and relatives.
Officers responded around 12:30 a.m. to a shooting in the Longfellow neighborhood of North Oakland, where they located a person who had been shot on the 800 block of 41st Street, according to the Oakland Police Department. Medical personnel pronounced him dead.
Police arrested an individual in connection with the homicide investigation on Sunday.
The department declined to release the names of the suspect or victim. The homicide investigation is ongoing.
A GoFundMe page identified the shooting victim as Tim Conover, a father of two who was engaged to be married and 'generously helped people in need.'
'His heart was full of love and gave to all he could. He would feed you, laugh with you and send you home with a happy heart,' organizers wrote.
Fundraising organizers said that they are raising money for Conover's fiance and children.
