Predicting the Lions' WR3 battle, two veterans move aside
Predicting the Lions' WR3 battle, two veterans move aside originally appeared on A to Z Sports. The Detroit Lions will begin training camp in less than two weeks when rookies report on July 16. Until then, we're going to be making predictions on the biggest camp battles of the summer. Issac TeSlaa vs Tim Patrick vs Kalif Raymond The Lions are set with their two starting guys with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, but the Lions are in a place where they can benefit from a third receiver who will get plenty of opportunities. Let's talk about the options. Isaac TeSlaa The Lions traded three third-round picks to move up for TeSlaa, and they did it because he brings an aspect to the Lions offense that they haven't really had in a long time. A big X-receiver who can high-point the ball and make contested catches. He can also stretch the field, and that helps. Tim Patrick Patrick helped the Lions a lot last year. The idea was that Detroit really wanted to replace the type of production that Josh Reynolds brought to the team, and for the most part, he did that. He was solid when it came to getting first-down catches. He did struggle in the red zone and didn't bring a lot of yards after the catch. Kalif Raymond Raymond spent many weeks on the injured reserve list in 2024, but even before and after that, the Lions began to move away from him as an option on the offense. He spent most of the year just being the return man. A role that he is very good at. Who's getting the job? This one seems very obvious to me. It's going to Iaac TeSlaa, and the reasons are that he can just bring more to the offense than Partick and Raymond. The ability to be a solid blocker while also being a guy who can play a big role in the red zone and gets yards after the catch elsewhere is big for this team and adds another layer to the offense. NFL transactions roundup: Lions, WR Tim Patrick stick together
March 14 - Wide receiver Tim Patrick re-signed with the Detroit Lions on Friday, one day after the veteran literally left the writing on his wall. Patrick posted a picture of a shirt on Instagram on Thursday inscribed with the words: "I only want to work with the Lions." NFL Network and the Detroit Free Press reported the one-year contract for 2025 is worth a maximum value of $4 million. Patrick, 31, had 33 receptions, 394 yards and three touchdowns with the Lions in 2024, his first game action since 2021 with the Denver Broncos. He played 16 games last season after overcoming consecutive season-ending injuries. He tore the ACL in his right knee in 2022 training camp and almost exactly one year later, he tore his left Achilles in training camp in July 2023. He signed with the Lions' practice squad in August 2024 and signed to the active roster in September. Patrick caught 143 passes for 2,009 yards and 12 TDs in 55 games (37 starts) with the Broncos from 2018-21.

Tim Patrick re-signs as No. 3 receiver with Detroit Lions in NFL free agency
Tim Patrick was just happy to get back on the field with the Detroit Lions last fall, after injuries robbed him of two seasons. Patrick played well enough in his return that the Lions didn't want to lose him in 2025 NFL free agency this spring. The Lions and Patrick agreed on a one-year contract Friday, the team announced. The contract is worth up to $4 million, NFL Network reports. Patrick finished sixth on the Lions with 33 catches for 394 yards and three touchdowns last season after signing with the team following his training camp release from the Denver Broncos. Patrick, 31, missed the 2022 season in Denver with a torn ACL and the 2023 season with the Broncos with a torn Achilles. ALL THE MOVES: Lions NFL free agency signings tracker: Who's in, who's out so far He finished sixth in Comeback Player of the Year voting last season. The Lions return most starters on both sides of the ball coming off a 15-2 season that ended with a divisional round playoff loss to the Washington Commanders. They led the NFL in scoring and finished second in passing offense in 2024. Including Patrick, the Lions return the eight players that had the most receptions for them last season: Amon-Ra St. Brown (115), Sam LaPorta (60), Jameson Williams (58), Jahmyr Gibbs (52), David Montgomery (36), Patrick, Kalif Raymond (17) and Brock Wright (13).
