The Lakers are known for splashy offseason moves, but they haven't made one since acquiring Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks in February. They sent out Anthony Davis in that deal, which left a hole in their frontcourt. However, they finally made a trade during Thursday's second round, via ESPN's Shams Charania. Naz Reid is staying in Minnesota. The New Jersey native and Jelly Fam alum has reportedly agreed to a five-year, $125 million extension to remain with the Timberwolves, ESPN reported. ESPN front office insider and salary cap expert Bobby Marks noted that the T-Wolves' projected tax bill resides at $23 million, significantly lower than the $141 million tax bill last season. This is meaningful given that Julius Randle has a player option worth around $30 million, and could opt out and enter free agency, potentially leaving Minnesota after one season. With Reid securing a rich role off the bench, a higher payroll could make re-signing Randle and keeping Gobert more difficult, unless the Wolves navigate the cap in a creative way. Last season, Reid averaged a career-best 14.2 points while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from 3. Reid won NBA Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2024 and helped Minnesota reach the Western Conference finals for the second straight year in 2025 before falling to the eventual champion Thunder.

Beringer is still unpolished and needs development, but he'll have a great mentor in Gobert. Advertisement Beringer, 18, was one of many centers drafted in the first round, and continued a recent trend of selecting French players. This past season, he played for Slovenia's Cedevita Olimpij, where he averaged 4.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. His team was the Slovenian League champion and Cup winner. In addition, Beringer was the 2025 ABA league leader in blocked shots. The rookie will likely take some time to develop, but Minnesota seems to have some time on their side. With the roster they currently have, they should still be able to compete in the Western Conference while their future roster members learn and improve.
