#SHOWBIZ: Deepika Padukone first Indian honoured with star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
MUMBAI: Actress Deepika Padukone has made history as the first Indian film star to be awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced yesterday, as reported by The Hindu, that Padukone is included in the Motion Pictures category for the Class of 2026.
This places her alongside an impressive list of international names from this year, including Emily Blunt, Timothée Chalamet, Rami Malek, Rachel McAdams, Stanley Tucci, and Demi Moore.
Deepika's selection marks a significant milestone, not only in her illustrious career but for Indian cinema as a whole.
The announcement was made during a livestream event that celebrated the new inductees.
With this recognition, Deepika joins a distinguished group of global entertainers who have truly left their mark on the film industry.
Her inclusion is particularly notable as she becomes the first Indian performer to be granted this honour in the Walk of Fame's long history.
Deepika has previously been acknowledged for her influence beyond film.
In 2018, she was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people and later received the Time 100 Impact Award.
She also made headlines in 2022 by unveiling the FIFA World Cup trophy at the final match in Qatar, another first for an Indian celebrity.
Her global appeal has also led to partnerships with luxury brands Louis Vuitton and Cartier, making her the first Indian ambassador for both fashion houses.
Deepika remains a major figure with a successful track record at the Indian box office.
She is currently working on several high-profile projects, including an untitled film directed by Atlee, co-starring Allu Arjun.
She is also expected to appear in King alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan, although that project has not yet been officially confirmed.
In a recent Instagram post, Deepika expressed her gratitude upon receiving the star, stating: "I'm so honoured and grateful for the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame."
