The shortest day of your life could be this summer – here's when

According to reports, Earth is continuingly spinning faster on its axis. While we've known about this phenomenon for a few years now, scientists are paying close attention to the length of the days this summer. According to a report from Time and Date, July 9, July 22, or August 5 could be the shortest days in recent years. We know for a fact that Earth's rotational speed has been increasing since at least 2020. And each year, we see slightly shorter days during the middle of the year. In fact, the difference in the Earth's rotational speed that day won't even be noticeable, except when looking at it through the perspective of the atomic clock. That's because while technically shorter, the day will only be around 1.51 milliseconds shorter, at most. Exactly why the Earth's rotation has accelerated is unclear, but scientists believe it could have a lasting impact. Not only will it shorten our days, but that can also affect a slew of other things, like the global climate and more. While we don't know the exact reason why, we do know that tidal forces from the Moon and Sun contribute to the Earth's rotation. However, the list of things that can affect the speed of the Earth's rotation, and thus the length of the day, is longer than you'd expect. Most believe that the change is driven by forces within the Earth, but it's impossible to completely rule out atmospheric conditions, too. Still, knowing when the shortest day of our lives will occur is important information if we want to stay up to date with how the Earth is doing as a whole. It's no secret that the Earth will one day be swallowed up by the Sun. However, until that happens, the Earth will continue to survive as it has for billions of years. And as it survives, the rotational speed that drives our days will shorten and even increase as the forces affecting it change and evolve. While we don't know which of the three days listed above will turn out to be the shortest day of our lives, we know it's very likely to happen again, at least until the Earth slows down. What time is the full moon tonight? Here's when to see 'flower moon' in Texas

The full Moon in May, known as the Flower Moon, will shine on the evening of Monday, May 12. The moon is considered a micromoon in that it will be at the farthest point in its orbit from Earth. It will make it appeard slightly smaller and dimmer than usual but perhaps more ethereal with a soft silvery glow. It marks the peak of spring in many areas of North America, transitioning into summer's sunny days and warm nights. It is appropriately called the Flower Moon, pertaining to the abundant flowers in bloom. However, it is called by other names in other cultures. Here is what to know about the May Moon. The full flower moon technically reaches its peak illumination in the middle of the day, at 12:55 p.m. ET Monday, May 12. In El Paso, that would be at 10:55 a.m. MT. But it will appear bright and full for two consecutive nights, Monday, May 12 and Tuesday, May 13, according to the website TimeAndDate. Look for the moon rising low in the southeast after sunset May 12 as it ascends to its highest point in the sky after midnight, according to EarthSky. Sunset in El Paso will be at 7:55 p.m. May is the month when hundreds of native flowers, sedges, bushes and trees blossom throughout North America. Columbine's intricate red and yellow bell-like flowers with deep nectarines provide early season food for hummingbirds and other long-tongued pollinators. Lance-leaf coreopsis produces a plethora of bright yellow, daisy-like flowers. Gardeners who promptly deadhead spent blooms prolong the bloom period through July. Meanwhile large stands of pink-hued prairie smoke create a hazy effect resembling smoke hovering close to the ground The next full moon will be the strawberry moon, which appears on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. What the solar eclipse in Aries on March 29 means for your zodiac sign

The last eclipse of spring 2025 is happening on March 29, following the lunar eclipse earlier this month. The action will unfold over a period of about 20 minutes on Saturday morning — specifically, from 6:46 am ET through 7:04 a.m. ET, according to Time And Date — and will be visible in eastern North America, most of Europe, western Africa and northern Asia. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon stands between the sun and Earth. This is a partial eclipse, so the moon will only partly block the sun — not creating the full-on effect seen during the eclipse last April. Astrologically, solar eclipses mark moments of destiny. The universe is bringing matters to light in unexpected ways, offering us the chance to improve our personal situations. Unexpected and unforeseen circumstances that have been put on the back burner become the focal point, encouraging us to evolve. Astrologers believe this particular solar eclipse will shake up our lives, bringing in fresh energy and new hopes. The solar eclipse is in the fire sign Aries, bringing our passions and desires to the forefront of the day's cosmic energy. It's an opportunity to make immense strides in areas that need to transform. The caveat is that Mercury and Venus retrograde might slow down matters from evolving swiftly, so let growth happen in its time. Be patient and kind, rather than acting out emotions. We are now moving forward with our dreams and visions at the hands of fate. Now's the time to believe in the big picture of what is to come in the future. From the moment you wake up, you'll want to jump out of bed and will feel eager to embrace all life offers. Your energy levels and passions will be very high, urging you to be in the moment and to be open to any possibility that comes your way. The eclipse urges you to take time off from the daily grind and focus on R&R. Before you push yourself to take on more than you can chew, remember that this time is a call to heal your body and mind. Decompress and unwind now. The world will feel limitless, and you will desire to throw caution to the wind and take risks that feel right. The only caveat is that you may be blinded by your impulsive desires, which is why you should think before acting to ensure you are making the right decisions. It may feel like a cold splash of water is thrown at you without your knowledge, giving you s wake-up call to get your energy flowing and emotions flowing. Temperaments might be high but at least you are aware of situations. It's a great time to learn about any fascinating subject matter and discuss your knowledge with others. Intellectual debates are encouraged to open yourself up to different philosophies and perspectives. Read a book, watch a documentary or visit a museum. The more you know, the more you can grow. Your financial and business prosperity is counting on your ability to step out into the world and let your voice be heard. You have strong opinions, and you cannot hide what you are thinking during the eclipse. Inspires you to discuss your visions with colleagues and management. Matters surrounding romantic situations can create illusions and unforeseen circumstances. This add to the confusion between what your heart wants and tricks that you once thought love should be based on misconceptions formed from the delusions you believe in. Authentic connections can be made by being honest with your partner. Not only are you going to feel like you're an equal at the office, but you will finally feel like you've attained professional peace and balance. By the end of the eclipse, you'll have a new vibe and energy that leads you to infinite success due to changes at work. The good news is that this eclipse will bring you an emotional high, allowing you to take leaps and bounds when starting a new path with your one and only in romantic endeavors. With a possible commitment or recommitment coming, you'll want to share the positivity and excitement with everyone. Do not settle for anything less than what you deserve. Although you tend to be passive at times to avoid unnecessary confrontation, the eclipse is giving you the strength and motivation to get what you want and need when it comes to relationships and family matters. Emotions will be high, especially with Mercury's retrograde deepening sentiments and thinking about past wounds. Try to be compassionate with others when asserting your feelings to avoid making a scene or adding drama to a delicate situation with those you love. As long as you save your pennies for a rainy day, you can be in a position to create a better relationship with money. Try paying off your debts and getting your situation in order to lead you to a freer place. This article was originally published on
