Teens' beach day deflated by fines after floatie-triggered traffic stop
A vehicle is pulled over on Balm Beach Road in Tiny Township for an insecure load on Mon., July 14, 2025. Provincial police remind beach-goers to wait until they arrive before inflating their floatie or risk being deflated with a ticket. A group of teenagers from Brampton learned this hard way as they headed to Balm Beach in Tiny Township Monday evening with an unconventional passenger in the form of a giant inflatable floatie. A Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer pulled over a vehicle on Balm Beach Road after noticing the large blown-up, two-seat tube balancing on the top of the vehicle and being held in place by a passenger. "Having your non-seat belted passenger hold onto your beach toy just might end your joy," wrote OPP Const. Dave Hobson on the social media post regarding the incident. The driver was hit with a ticket for having an insecure load, while the floatie-holding passenger was handed a ticket for being unbuckled. The group had to deflate the oversized beach toy and stow it away in its box before they could continue on with their day.

Township urges residents to stop dumping household garbage in public spaces
A garbage bin is overflowing and litter is strewn across a parking lot in Tiny Township. Tiny Township officials have a clear message for those using local parks and beaches as their personal dumping site: stop. The Township says its seeing a surge in household garbage being left in public waste bins at beaches and parks this summer. "The garbage cans at Tiny parks and beaches are meant for your time at the park or beach only," officials noted in a social media post on Friday that was accompanied by a picture of garbage scattered across a parking lot in front of an overflowing bin. The problem isn't just unsightly, officials say it can be costly, attracts wildlife and eats up valuable staff time to clean up. 'Please, don't be that neighbour. Let's keep our public beaches and parks clean for everyone to enjoy,' the Township added. The Township says any residents requiring additional municipal collection from their home or cottage can purchase extra garbage bag tags.

Four children, two men rescued in separate incidents on the water: OPP
Police say marine officers rescued four children on paddleboards who drifted several kilometres from shore near Tiny Township over the Canada Day long weekend, and OPP says the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of wearing a life-jacket. Southern Georgian Bay OPP say the children were all wearing proper safety gear when officers responded to the call. The group had become stranded in the water and was safely brought back to shore. Officers say the incident could have ended very differently had they not been outfitted with life-jackets. In another weekend call, two 25-year-old men from Toronto had to be rescued after drifting into open water in Tay Township. Police say the pair had been using a kayak and paddleboard, and weren't wearing life-jackets. While they were safely brought back to land, police say the situation highlights the ongoing risk posed by those who head out onto the water unprepared, putting their lives at risk. Marine officers patrolling local waterways over the busy Canada Day weekend conducted nearly 80 vessel checks and say one thing was clear: life jackets remain one of the most commonly forgotten pieces of safety equipment. Six boaters were charged for failing to have enough life jackets for everyone on board, while 28 others were given warnings for various other boating-related infractions. Police say officers also responded to 13 separate calls for service from the public. Among those calls were several complaints about dangerous operation, including boats speeding through the channel near Picnic Island in Georgian Bay Township, personal watercraft being driven at high speeds near the beach in Tiny Township, and large wakes being created in Penetang Bay, raising safety concerns for swimmers and smaller vessels. Despite regular public messaging and educational patrols, police say too many boaters still overlook life-jackets. 'This summer, let's always remember to put that life-jacket on before heading out for an enjoyable day on the bay,' OPP noted.
