Zach Edey's punishment revealed after NBA star was allegedly caught by cops speeding at 101mph

Zach Edey has reportedly agreed to pay $639.50 after the NBA star cut a plea deal with prosecutors to settle his reckless driving case. The Memphis Grizzlies center, who stands at 7ft 4ins, was charged after cops allegedly caught him speeding at 101mph in a 55mph zone on May 1. But on Wednesday, TMZ reported that the 23-year-old admitted to speeding and agreed to pay a fine. In return, the misdemeanor charge was dropped. The case first came to light last month, when it was reported that an Indiana State Trooper pulled Edey, 23, over at 7:03pm and issued him a citation. Edey, driving a Kia Sorento, reportedly told the officers that he was only travelling at that speed because he was trying to pass another vehicle. The former Purdue standout was taken ninth overall in the 2024 draft. He was a two-time national college player of the year with the Boilermakers. The incident occurred in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, which is where Purdue is based and Edey spent four seasons. It remains unclear whether the center will face any punishment from the NBA over the incident. Purdue's men's basketball team posted a photo of Edey in Mackey on May 6 where he could be seen alongside other players and alumni. Earlier this year it emerged that Edey could miss the start of the 2025-26 NBA season after he underwent surgery on his left ankle. Edey needed the procedure to repair and restabilize his ankle after spraining it again during offseason training. He is slated to be evaluated again in three months, less than two weeks before the 2025-26 season opens October 21. The two-time national player of the year at Purdue missed 12 games early in the season because of a sprained left ankle. He went on to play in 66 games, making 55 starts, and averaged 9.2 points and a rookie-leading 8.3 rebounds. He was voted to the All-Rookie first team.

Separate lawsuits over West Lafayette semiconductor factory likely to be merged

LAFAYETTE, IN — Two separate lawsuits asking for judicial review and an injunction of the rezoning of 121 acres for a semiconductor plant likely will be consolidated into one lawsuit in the coming weeks. Tippecanoe Circuit Judge Sean Persin said during a hearing Monday that it appears to him that consolidation of the two cases is necessary. 'It seems like if it's the same issues that are pending in multiple cases, they ought to be consolidated somewhere," Persin said. "I'd be glad to take the other case. I'd be glad to send this elsewhere. But it doesn't make sense to me for you all to be litigating the same issues in two courts in Tippecanoe County." Lora Marie Williams is fighting the May 6 rezoning of the 121 acres north of Kalberer Road and east of Salisbury Street. The West Lafayette City Council ignored the Area Plan Commission's recommendations and rezoned the acres from residential to industrial. The land will be developed by SK hynix Semiconductor West Lafayette at a cost of nearly $4 billion. Williams filed a lawsuit on June 4 in Tippecanoe Circuit Court naming the city of West Lafayette, the Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission, Purdue Research Foundation and SK hynix Semiconductor as defendants. Five hours later, Karl W. Janich and Sean Sasser filed their lawsuit in Tippecanoe Superior 1 naming the same defendants, except for SK hynix. By being the first to file, Williams' case in circuit court likely takes legal precedent as to where the case will be heard, according to discussions during Monday's hearing. 'I think everyone agrees that it makes sense to have one case. But we don't have everyone here weighing in on that," Persin said. "But likely there will be a motion to consolidate in both cases. I don't know how that's all going to work out, but I would anticipate they're all going to end up here.' Tippecanoe County Attorney Doug Masson filed Friday for the Area Plan Commission to be dismissed from the lawsuits, arguing that the plan commission makes only a recommendation on a rezoning. In this instance, the commission recommended rezoning land farther west, which the West Lafayette City Council rejected on May 6. It approved the eastern site, which is north of Kalberer Road and west of Salisbury Street. The county and its plan commission is not affected in either lawsuit regardless of what decision is handed down, Masson said Monday in court as he summarized the motion. Persin gave Williams' attorney 30 days to respond to the county's motion to be dismissed from the lawsuit. Williams filed several motions Monday for parties to produce records pertaining to the semiconductor factory and the rezoning. Persin set an Aug. 1 deadline for the parties to share the records. Williams' attorney, Tom Williams, as well as the attorneys for the defendants, agreed that this case likely can be resolved within six months. West Lafayette City Attorney Eric Burns said there is not a stay while the case is pending, so SK hynix is not blocked from moving forward with its plans for the site. West Lafayette Development Director Jen VanSchuyver said there are no injunctions against SK hynix to stop the construction process. Currently, the company is conducting environmental studies and still plans to begin construction later this year. Production is still scheduled to begin in 2028. Meanwhile, because Williams filed a notice of a constitutional challenge to the city council's rezoning decision, Persin issued an order Monday sending that notice on to the Indiana attorney general's office. The notice allows the attorney general the option to become a party to the lawsuit. No additional hearings have been scheduled in circuit court. No hearing is scheduled as of Monday in Superior 1. Grizzlies center Zach Edey charged with reckless driving after reportedly driving more than 100 mph in Indiana

Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey was charged with reckless driving after he allegedly drove over 100 miles per hour on a road in Indiana last month, according to Fox 59 . Edey was pulled over and issued a citation on May 1 after an Indiana State Trooper reportedly saw him speeding through Tippecanoe County — which is the county in Indiana that holds Purdue University, where Edey went to college. Edey was spotted driving 101 mph in a 55 mph zone, per the report. He told the officer that he was 'trying to pass a vehicle' once he was pulled over, but offered no other explanation. Advertisement Edey is now facing misdemeanor speeding and reckless driving charges. He is due back in court next week. Edey, 23, is coming off his rookie season in the NBA. The Grizzlies selected him with the No. 9 overall pick in last year's draft after a dominant run with the Boilermakers. He averaged 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game with the Grizzlies last season. They went 48-34 and made the playoffs for the fourth time in five years, though they fell in the opening round. The news of Edey's citation came just hours after reports that Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders received a near-identical citation in Ohio. Sanders was cited for driving 101 mph on a Cleveland-area highway earlier this week.
