Tipperary All-Ireland heroes have ‘best fans in Ireland' as estimated 30,000 join homecoming
Emotions boiled over as the crowds braved the elements to see their heroes lift the Liam MacCarthy cup on stage before a crowd estimated at 30,000. 'Yesterday was a truly historic day in Croke Park, and we want to make this a truly memorable night in Thurles,' said Jonathan Cullen, of the Tipperary County Board. Tipperary had suffered, but all that pain was left behind on Sunday. 'Tipp! Tipp! Tipp! Tipp!' The crowds erupted as they waited with expectation for their favourite players. Chairperson of the Tipperary GAA County Board Jimmy Minogue said the spirit of Tipperary is alive and well. 'We've waited six years too long, but the party is going to start now.' Seskin Lane bass guitarist and band member Shelly Martin is the granddaughter of Paddy Kenny, who won four hurling All-Ireland finals with Tipperary. Paddy lived in Thurles, on Croke Street. Fans and families continued to gather around the main stage, as Tipperary trad band Cailíní Nua took to the stage at 5.20pm – one of the quartet is 2024 Tipperary Rose Tara Brady. Line-up for All-Ireland champs Tipperary hurlers' homecoming gig revealed
The 2 Johnnies, Una Healy, Cailin Lua and more are set to perform at Thurles' Semple Stadium this afternoon for Tipperary hurling champions' homecoming, following their win against Cork at the All-Ireland final yesterday. The celebrations are set to kick off at around 4:30 pm, while the team bus is scheduled to arrive with the Liam MacCarthy cup around 7 pm. Tipperary County Board PRO Jonathan Cullen said on RTÉ's Morning Ireland: 'We'll have live entertainment from 4.30pm like the 2 Johnnies, Una Healy and seeing as Pat (Shortt) is going to be there, he might pop up onto the stage as well, you never know.' He also said that the players were in Thurles this morning, and that 'some of them are up already, and the enthusiasm about them getting back to Thurles and meeting the supporters is unbelievable.' Tipperary became the 29th All-Ireland hurling champions yesterday after beating Cork 3-27 to 1-18 in Croke Park.
