The Samsung S90F OLED just got its first price drop — but you should buy the S90D instead
Prime Day TV deals are finally here, bringing with it exciting deals on all our favorite tech. This includes some of the best TVs and even those launched this year. Which is what set my sights on Samsung's S90F OLED TV, a stellar new offering that sits right below its flagship S95F. While you might want to jump at the brand new offering, I recommend going for its older brother in the Samsung S90D OLED TV, launched in 2024. The Samsung S90F OLED TV is an enticing new entry, offering 144Hz refresh rate on one of Samsung's best upscaling processers. It also has Tizen OS, which is built with tons of free channels not to mention several cloud gaming services, and a full Gaming Hub for all your settings in one place. The S90F also has tons of AI baked into it, like an AI Sound Pro that boosts audio dramatically. 42" for $1,09748" for $1,29755" for $1,49777" for $2,99783" for $4,497 The S90D is one of Samsung's 2024 OLED TVs. The OLED TV features Samsung's new NQ4 AI Gen2 processor, HDR10+/HLG support, 120Hz refresh rate, four HDMI 2.1 ports, and built-in Alexa. It also offers 4K AI Upscaling to ensure all programs are crisp and sharp. On the audio front, you get Dolby Atmos and Object Tracking Sound Lite for 3D surround sound. 42" for $89748" for $99755" for $99777" for $1,79783" for $2,997 You'll be saving yourself around $600, plus there's still loads on offer with the S90D that makes up for its (relative) old age. I myself use an S90D frequently as my main display when not testing alternative sets, so it's a worthy choice over the 2025 model. Samsung went big on AI in 2025 for its newest displays, offering picture performance enhancements and audio boosting to improve the overall experience, among other major changes. That's the real meat of what makes the S90F a tad more expensive over its older model. These OLED TVs still both use a native 120Hz refresh rate, which can be boosted up to 144Hz with VRR for blistering fast gaming. Thus, both TVs are rather equally matched in a lot of categories, like gaming, color, and even brightness. But even in terms of AI, the S90D still has a lot going for it. One of my favorite features is the Adaptive Sound Pro function, which boosts audio performance by tailoring it to your living space. You'll instantly notice a drastic change in audio performance, cleaning up dialogue and enhancing noisier scenes. The big reason why I recommend the S90D OLED TV over the S90F right now, beyond the simple price equation, is Samsung's seven year upgrade commitment. This means your 2024 S90D will get retroactive Tizen OS upgrades for the next six years, making it a brand new TV in every update. As a big fan of the S90D OLED, I can't rave enough about its potential. Don't get me wrong, the S90F OLED is a fantastic TV too, but your money will be much better spent on the older model this Prime Day as the upgrades are minimal here.

Samsung is giving these older TVs a big Tizen OS upgrade — see if yours is on the list
Samsung is finally launching Tizen 9.0 on its older sets, which brings a few design changes and tweaks to some of the best Samsung TVs from last year. Tizen OS, Samsung's main TV interface, got a big improvement on its 2025 TV lineup. Through Samsung's seven-year OS upgrade plan, any and all updates to its Tizen platform are set to land on previous sets dating back to seven years from their launch. As of writing, it seems only Samsung's 2024 TV lineup has received the update, which includes models like the S95D, QN900D, QN95D, and the 2024 version of The Frame, among others. Check out the complete list below to see if yours is on the list. Several of our favorite Samsung models are getting an extra pep in their step with Tizen 9.0, specifically firmware version 21060.0. This version of Samsung's interface was launched on its 2025 models, introducing a sweet design change and a few tweaks to its settings menus. The key alteration is a more zoomed-in look, pulling all of the major information closer to the screen. This makes your "Continue to Watch," pinned apps, and even the dreaded ad banner slightly larger on your home screen, which is a nice touch. It gives the Tizen interface a cleaner feel. You'll also find a huge improvement to the settings menu. You can essentially resize the menu to suit your liking, plus adjust its transparency so you don't miss out on all the action happening when making any quick tweaks. CryptoCore and other security updates are also present in Tizen 9.0. Thus far, it seems mainly 2024 sets based in Europe are getting the update, but the rollout should unfold across the globe in the coming days. Here's a full list of the TVs expected to get Tizen 9.0 in the update: Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. I checked my own 2024 Samsung S90D OLED TV to see if the update was available for me, but it wasn't, and I'm still stuck on version 1301. This means US Samsung TV owners might still have to wait a bit as it steadily rolls out. To check if you can receive an update manually, head to Settings, then All Settings and navigate to Support. You'll find the Software Update option at the top of this section, which will allow you to upgrade to the new firmware if it's available in your region. If this doesn't work, it might mean you're using a Samsung smart TV made before 2024, which should get an update later in the year. For reference, Samsung's 2023 sets were updated with the 2024 version of Tizen OS (version 8.0) in October last year, so it might take a bit longer before those more dated models get the upgrade.

Surprise! Amazon just knocked this 2025 Samsung OLED TV by $200
With Prime Day just around the corner, expect to see some huge savings across the board, from running shoes to projectors. But you can often even find major discounts on brand new TVs, even Samsung OLEDs, before the big sales week even starts. Right now you can get the 55-inch Samsung S90F 4K OLED TV for $1,797 at Amazon. That's $200 slashed on this 2025 OLED, bringing it down to its lowest price yet, which even included most of the range in sizes. But you better hurry, as it's selling fast! (For more deals, check out our guide to the best Prime Day OLED TV deals). 42" for $1,19948" for $1,49777" for $3,199 Samsung is going all out when it comes to AI in 2025 and that's noticeable most on the S90F TV, it's middle-of-the-road OLED this year. It sits right under the S95F OLED, making it just a little less feature-rich than Samsung's flagship but full of surprising metrics. While we don't have a full review of the S90F just yet, I have seen it multiple times in action, including even at Samsung's facilities in Seoul, Korea last year. There's this really cool feature that has stuck in my mind Samsung showed us, which allows the S90F to automatically amend darker scene sin HDR to look even clearer. For perspective's sake, they put on a scene from "House of the Dragon," which was pitch black with a dragon in the foreground. When Samsung's HDR magic was turned on, the person in front of the dragon and even its scales were all far clearer without detracting from the experience. It was pretty incredible. Of course, you are losing out on Dolby Vision as the Samsung S90F OLED doesn't have that certification, but you will have HDR10+ and HDR10, the latter of which makes it ideal for the Nintendo Switch 2. It's also rated up to 144Hz via VRR with a native 120Hz refresh rate, and that's great for modern consoles like the PS5 Pro. And even when you look at its metrics, it's got a lot going for it. An input latency of 9.1ms, not to mention hitting 100% of the UHDA-P3 gamut, which pertains to its HDR color coverage, is superb. The only other TV that has a similar result released this year is the Sony Bravia 8 II OLED TV, which comparatively costs $2,999. This Samsung S90F OLED TV deal won't last for long, but if you want something a bit cheaper check out our ongoing early Prime Day deals live blog for even more savings across tech and fitness gear. There's even more discounts to snag next week when Prime Day hits.
