‘The Summer I Turned Pretty' Books in Order
The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 is finally underway—which is, sadly, the final season of the show. Luckily, for this there is a salve: good old-fashioned reading. Even if you're not an avid reader, you should pick up this trilogy, as fans of the series say there are some major differences between the page and the screen. Still the same, however, are our main details. On the page and onscreen, the series follows Isabel 'Belly' Conklin, a teenage girl who returns to the fictional Cousins Beach each summer with her family, reuniting year after year with her mother's best friend and her sons who, naturally, are both hot and pining after Belly. The series is written by Jenny Han, who also wrote To All The Boys I've Loved Before, which became equally as popular and sparked multiple feature films on Netflix. The Summer I Turned Pretty is marked by love triangles, coming-of-age journeys, heartbreak, and the aesthetics of a New England summer. Sold? Here's what you should know about all three books in the The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy. The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han The first novel in The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy was released in 2009, introducing the world to the ultimate trio—Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah—as well as our other key players Lauren, Susannah, and Steven. This first novel also does the heavy lifting in building the world of Cousins Beach. The fictional dreamland is based on a few destinations, namely East Coast spots like Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Long Island, and Nags Head. As the story goes, the Conklins and the Fishers return to Cousins Beach each summer, beginning when the children were quite young. One summer, as the title suggests, Belly returns to the summer house looking less like the little sister, and more like a love interest. From there, the Fisher boys take turns falling in and out of love with her, a triangle that will continue to spin through the entire trilogy. Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers ahead. A main plot point of the first novel is that Susannah Fisher, the mother of Conrad and Jeremiah, is ill with cancer. By the start of the second novel, Susannah has tragically lost that battle. The story picks up one year after the ending of the first novel, and is largely told through flashbacks of what has occurred over the last year. With Susannah gone, the boys are unraveling, the beloved house in Cousins Beach is on the market, and everyone is more lost than ever. The final book picks up with Belly heading off to college as a freshman, reflecting on the love and losses she has experienced in the past few years. The love triangle continues through this novel, becoming more emotionally charged and more twisted than ever before, and Belly is forced to make a life-altering decision about the future of her life, and theirs. Seasons one through three of The Summer I Turned Pretty series are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. STREAM NOW

All the 'Summer I Turned Pretty' Season 3 Easter Eggs So Far
Everyone stop what you're doing. Our favorite romance series has returned and we will officially not be talking about anything else for the rest of the summer. Yes, that's right, The Summer I Turned Pretty (TSITP) season 3 has officially dropped the first two episodes on Prime Video earlier today, and already there's a bunch of Easter eggs we've already spotted. The long-awaited third season returned with a bang as we were reunited with Belly (Lola Tung) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) as they navigate college following a four year time jump. We also see Steven (Sean Kaufman) navigating his first internship after graduating from Princeton early and carrying on his will-they, won't-they romance with Taylor (Rain Spencer), who is thriving in college. And of course we can't forget Conrad (Christopher Briney) who is on the west coast at Stanford and has just landed his dream job. But of course this is TSITP and summer doesn't always stay sweet, however, before we focus too much on the drama, there are some major Easter eggs that need to be paid attention to. Easter eggs have been a pretty common occurrence throughout the first two seasons of the show, with many fans spotting the extra hidden details series creator and writer of the novels the show is based on, Jenny Han has slipped in. And this season is no exception so read on for all The Summer I Turned Pretty Easter eggs we've spotted so far in season 3. The first episode of the new season starts a year after season 2 and sees Belly's family drop her off at college. Laurel (Jackie Chung) gives Belly a picture to put on her wall and then to show three more years passing the photo wall expands. And if you look super closely at the photo wall you can see one picture of Belly and Jeremiah dressed up for what is presumably a Halloween party. And their costumes? Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky from To All The Boys I've Loved Before. As most fans will know, To All The Boys I've Loved Before is one of Jenny Han's other novels, which was turned into a film adaptation by Netflix starring Lana Condor and Noah Centineo. Prime Video dropped the first two episodes of the new series and as part of episode 2 we see Belly and Conrad back at the beach house in Cousins. Towards the end of the episode Belly wakes up and heads downstairs to the kitchen where Conrad has left out a note to Belly saying how good it was to see her. The note is attached to a crossword, where one of the clues is 'Novel by author Jenny Han, P.S. I ____ Love You'. Belly then fills out the clue and adds the word 'still'. P.S. I Still Love You is the sequel novel To All The Boys I've Loved Before as seen in episode one of the series. Be sure to check in next week for more Easter eggs. The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 is available on Prime Video now, sign up for a Prime Video account here.

Every romance movie tries to hack love. Here's why it doesn't work IRL
Romance movies will have you believe that love is a shiny, fragile thing that can be distilled down to one great metaphor. Think of your favourite romcom. You can probably recall the line that made it famous; the piece of wisdom that, the movie promises, will change everything we know about love. Let's call it, for lack of a better term, the Love Hack. Audiences measure their relationships against it. It shows up in Insta Reels and Reddit compilations of the best relationship advice of all time. Every generation has their own. And it's probably ruining more relationships than it saves. Because a Love Hack rarely works in the real world. And even the fictional world is starting to wise up. In To All The Boys I've Loved Before (2018), Lara Jean comes to realise that love isn't how it's described in the movies; 'it's better because it's real'. So, what is love? Oh, we're not offering a hack of our own. But here's what the movies get wrong. 'Love means never having to say you're sorry.' Love Story (1970) Excuse me, what? Anyone in a real relationship will tell you that you spend half of it apologising, and the other half being apologised to. In the movie, Ali MacGraw's character says it to Ryan O'Neal's character, after he apologises for his anger. Tsk tsk. That moment certainly needed an apology. And in subsequent interviews, MacGraw herself has disagreed with the line, calling it 'crock'. Couples fight; disagreement is part of love. Saying sorry means you're a grown-up, that you acknowledge the effect your words or actions have had on another person, regardless of intention. A whole generation of Love Story watchers skipped this. We don't have to. Cutting up fruit or moving onto the next topic as if nothing really happened just means you'll land up in couples' therapy later. 'When you realise you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.' When Harry Met Sally (1989) Sounds wholesome. But is this really a test of love? For Harry and Sally, who spend their adult lives crossing each other's paths without realising that they should be together, it's a neat little conclusion. For everyone else, not so much. Remember when Geet left her whole family behind in Jab We Met, and fled home to start a new life with Anshuman? Bad idea. Besides, research shows that taking your time and marrying later leads to better, longer-lasting relationships. Also, marriage? In this economy? Who are you, a 20-something influencer with generational wealth? 'I think I can really fall in love when I know everything about someone.' Before Sunrise (1995) You know we'd come for this line. In the movie, Celine tells Jesse that knowing the mundane things about a person makes you fall for them: 'The way he's going to part his hair, which shirt he's going to wear that day, knowing the exact story he'd tell in a given situation'. Celine, ma cheri, you've got it backwards. Leave the tedious detail for after. No point seeing someone drool in their sleep, get petty with relatives and leave dishes 'soaking' in the sink right from the start. Even in the most long-lasting relationship, it's good to not know everything about your partner. It keeps the mystery alive. 'Love is passion, obsession, someone you can't live without.' Meet Joe Black (1998) Oh dear! How to hate on Brad Pitt, in his prime, playing Death? This line, thankfully, comes from Anthony Hopkins's character, who believes that his daughter is settling for a tepid partner (and not Brad Pitt)! But this is a dangerous pop-culture myth. If your entire relationship feels like a burning, fiery dance of emotion, chances are it will combust soon. Slow-burn love – showing up when they're sick, doing the dishes, listening to the same stories for the 16th time – doesn't fuel summer blockbusters. But it's the real test. 'You don't marry someone you can live with, you marry the person you cannot live without.' P.S. I Love You (2007) First of all, this is confusing. Unpack it a bit and you'll realise that both mean the same thing – that the person you cannot live without is ultimately the person you should live with. But that takes learning too. Also, it reeks of co-dependent behaviour. The person you should first learn to live with is you. And if you can't live without someone, maybe you're not ready to be a fully functioning adult yet. The Four Question Theory: 'Is he kind? Can I tell him everything in my heart? Does he help me become the best version of myself? Can I imagine him as the father of my children?' The Life List (2025) Four hacks for the price of one. When the Sofia Carson starrer came out, there were reports of couples feeling dissatisfied with their own love stories. Some even broke up because their relationships didn't pass the four question test. (Maybe they were low-key looking for an excuse to quit). PR gimmicks aside, it's too much of a quick-fix. An entire relationship can't be summed up in four questions. And besides, the fourth one is hardly inclusive. What if you can't see him/her as the parent of your child because you don't want to have kids in the first place? From HT Brunch, June 21, 2025 Follow us on

You May Not *Need* These 27 Kitchen Products, But When You See How Cool They Are, You'll Certainly Want Them
We hope you love our recommendations! Some may have been sent as samples, but all were independently selected by our editors. Just FYI, BuzzFeed and its publishing partners may collect a share of sales and/or other compensation from the links on this page. If you're the type of person who would buy a "little devil" meat thermometer, this is for you. 1. A Michael Scott/Prison Mike reversible dishwasher magnet because you have accidentally used a dirty mug for your morning cup of Joe one too many times this week. Use this magnet so that the entire household knows not to touch that deceptively clean-looking bowl that you definitely have not washed yet — perhaps they'll even be inspired to clean it "ASAP as possible." Promising review: "My whole family is a fan of The Office, so when I was searching for a magnet we could use on our dishwasher, this was the hands-down winner. Does it go with my farmhouse decor? Nope, not at all. But it does get the attention of two teenage boys. Had I gone with something a bit more my decor style, I can guarantee you it would not be as useful. I mean, we all would much rather see Prison Mike staring back at us than suit and tie Michael Scott, right? And there is only one way for that to out the dishwasher!" — R. Funk Get it from Amazon for $8.99. 2. A "Pizza Pack," to store all of the leftover slices of pizza from the pies you order. This container is collapsible and easy to store, and it can stack up to five slices without letting them stick together. So you can place it into the microwave without fear of the cheese sticking to the back of another slice and completely ruining your leftovers! Pizza Pack is a small business that specializes in sustainable food storage solutions. Promising review:"It's always a pain to put away leftover pizza. It never seems to work. UNTIL THIS PRODUCT!!! I am very happy with my purchase. It's easy to keep the pieces separate from others and you don't have a large bulky box letting your crust dry out. You can use it for one piece or several — it is very easy to expand. The best part is that it is very easy to clean. Storing the Pizza Pack when not in use doesn't take up a lot of space either. Try it." — B. Cirincione Get it from Amazon for $24.99+ (available in multipacks and ten colors). 3. A cult-favorite ~secret~ popcorn salt because the taste of movie theatre popcorn is elite, and you want that same buttery-salty-goodness without having to actually exit your home. Netflix movie nights just became a whole lot better. Here's what BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lord has to say about this:"Our family recently unearthed this because beloved To All The Boys I've Loved Before author Jenny Han mentioned that it was her secret to delicious popcorn, and it may have just wrecked me for other at-home popcorn for the rest of my life. It genuinely tastes just as salty and buttery and savory as fresh movie theater popcorn. I inhaled it so fast that every single one of my organs lit up in mild alarm." Promising review:"I am a person who will make myself sick eating buckets of popcorn (I have no self-control). This has by far been my favorite 'TikTok made me buy' item. My at-home popcorn is now my favorite thing to make and I don't need to go to the theater for popcorn. Very much worth the purchase and this will last me such a long time." — S Martinez Get it from Amazon for $9.60. 4. A"Hell Done" digital thermometer for vanishing the risk of overcooked meat because absolutely no one likes chewing on a rubber shoe. This device will display the accurate temperature of your food in a matter of seconds — seconds that are all too precious in the delicate art of cuisine. Your meal will be positively ~sinful~. Promising review: "This thermometer not only works perfectly, but is a great conversation starter at gatherings! I've used it a few times now and am completely satisfied with the purchase. It is accurate, and the display is super easy to read. If you buy this, make sure to read the back of the box ;)." — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $19.95. 5. A"Gracula" garlic crusher, because if Damon Salvatore isn't available to help you whip something up in the kitchen, at least this lil' Dracula can. You don't need to be Elena Gilbert to get the help of an ancient immortal choppin' up your garlic for your famous lasagna. Promising review: "I love this little guy. I found him on a BuzzFeed list and had to have it as soon as I saw it! I've minced as many as five cloves in it in seconds. It's a little tricky getting all of the garlic out once minced (I use a silicone basting brush to get most of it but I always use more than the recipe calls for anyway so it's not a deal breaker). Cleanup is a breeze because he goes right in the dishwasher!" — Barbie Get it from Amazon for $18.99. 6. A pancake batter dispenser for those who wish they could move into their local IHOP. Just mix the batter inside the container, and squeeze the handle to dispense some perfectly portioned batter right onto your griddle — no splatter, no mess! Promising review: "This pancake batter dispenser is such a game-changer! It makes portioning batter so much easier and mess-free, which is a huge plus when making pancakes, waffles, or cupcakes. Cleaning it is super simple, and the measuring labels are a handy touch. The only small downside is that it leaks just a tiny bit if the batter is very liquid, but that's understandable and easy to manage. Overall, it's a fantastic tool that saves time and makes cooking so much more enjoyable." — Karol D Get it from Amazon for $21.24. 7. A glass milk carton perfect for frothing milk without droplets of sizzling milk spilling over the side. Display your milk in an ~aesthetic~ way to make your guests think you're actually succeeding at this whole "adulting" thing. Amazon Promising review:"I love glassware, especially borosilicate glass, because it's delicate and yet strong, it's thinner and lighter than most glass. T his is is definitely a conversation piece, because of its small milk carton shape and it holds a significant amount of cream or milk. It's perfect for use during brunch, and during coffee or tea dates with friends. To get it cleaned, I use warm water, dish soap, and a small foam brush, than I put it on the dish rack to air dry." — APR63 Get it from Amazon for $6.99 (available in five styles). 8. A teensy mini waffle maker — the days of cooking huge portions and using up a mountain of dishes are long behind you; now, you can simply pour the ingredients into the griddle and watch it create just the right amount of food you need. This lil' appliance can even be used to whip up some non-waffle meals like pancakes, hash browns, cornbread, cookie dough, and much more. Promising review:"At first, I laughed and thought it was too small to really do anything. I was so wrong — it's an amazing little waffle maker!! Can cook almost anything on it! I have cooked eggs, waffles, and French toast." — S PETERSON Get it from Amazon for $12.99+ (available in 20 colors). 9. A set of vinyl coasters for music lovers who want to protect their coffee table from condensation in a rockin' kind of way. Promising review: "I absolutely adore these!!! They are so cute and definitely do the job! They keep the surface free from water rings and make me giggle!" — johnny williams Get a set of six from Amazon for $7.99. 10. A handy dandy condiment fork to keep those pickle juices far, far, far away from your skin. It even comes in a holder you can wrap around the jar of pickles (or olives or peppers). Your late-night cravings just got a whole lot easier to handle! Check out a TikTok of the condiment fork in action. Promising review: "Great kitchen item. Forks are great to get pickles out of the jar, but if you have kids/lazy people (lol) you know that dirty hands are going into that jar. 😉 This has really prevented that from happening. It comes with two different rings to fit whatever size jar, a stabber holder, and a stabbing stick." — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $8.99. 11. An attachable Stanley Cup snack bowl perfect for your "girl dinner" nights lounging with the latest edition of the Fourth Wing series. Trying to balance both a large plate of snacks and your oversized Stanley is too much of a hassle for your relaxing night at home — this'll keep everything you need all in one place. Psst — lots of reviewers say this fits their Stanley cup *and* the cheaper alternative versions of it, like this $29 Simple Modern tumbler. Promising review: "Easy to clean. Holds a lot of different snacks. Lightweight. Color is beautiful. Fun to use. Good gift idea." — Mc Get it from Amazon for $9.99 (available in two sizes and five colors). 12. A butter spreader that's like a lipstick tube for your butter (and seriously, how cool is that?!?!) so you don't need to fiddle with a knife when you're tryna butter up some toast, bagels, or pancakes. Amazon Check out a TikTok of the butter spreader in action. Promising review: "I remember having a butter holder, exactly like this, for corn when I was growing up. It was nice to find the same one. No more having the butter slip off the corn when applying it with a knife. No more tricks like using a fork and having the butter melt through the tines or how about buttering a slice of bread and wrapping it around the corn and spinning it. It's also great that the butter is covered at one end by the plunger and the other end by a cover. This way, the butter will stay fresh and always ready when you need it." — Allison Get it from Amazon for $5.99. 13. A pair of glowing lightsaber chopsticks so every meal can feel like a reenactment of The Duel of Fates. Here's what BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lord has to say about this: " As you can see from the above GIF, I bought these for myself, and I love them to pieces. TBH, I use them as decor every bit as much as I use them to eat. Sometimes I just keep them in my work area to light them up during the day to feel fancy. They toggle back and forth between a bunch of different colors, like red, blue, yellow, purple, and multicolor, so you can either make them match *or* have a red and blue one together and bring ~balance~ to the Force." Get it from Amazon for $11.97 (available in two styles). 14. A paw-some cat mug and warmer set for slow sippers who don't feel like getting up every 30 minutes to warm up their hot chocolate for the millionth time. Sit back, relax, and don't fret about remembering to turn off the heat pad before going to sleep — because it'll automatically turn off in eight hours! Promising review: "This warmer keeps my tea at the perfect temperature and will stay on for eight hours. The cup is very cute. I have used a different cup on it and it worked well too. The only thing that I would change is the shape of the cup, it is skinny at the top. It would be easier to clean if it wasn't small at the top, but I like it anyway!" — Edsmom 1 Get it from Amazon for $28.98+ (available in eight styles). 15. A Scrub Daddy sponge holder so your favorite smiley sponge dries faster, stays cleaner, and no longer needs to reside in the corner of your sink. Storage Theory is a small business that specializes in unique storage solutions for every room in your home. Promising review:"Finally a nice place to keep my Scrub Daddy. This is super cute, easy to clean, and unique!" — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $9.95+ (available in two colors and in a two-pack). 17. You don't even need to figure out how to make donuts — this machine will take store bought brownie, muffin, and cake mix just fine. Promising review: "I cannot say enough about the Dash Mini Donut Maker. It is so much fun to use and make donuts at home. Rather than going to the local chain donut restaurant, you can make your own specialty donuts at home. It is very easy to use and cleans up quickly. My children love to decorate the donuts after they are cooked. It's a fun family activity and the donuts taste great! Also, it comes with a neat design and stands out among my other boring looking kitchen cooking appliances. If you like donuts, this product is for you." — JoshH Get it from Amazon for $21.99+ (available in two styles). 18. I t's happy and cute and makes me happy. One leaf did twist off after a few weeks of use but it's still cute and I could've been more careful holding it. Not a super stiff brush but works well for most hand washing and quick rinses. Brush rinses well and food doesn't get caught in it. As an avid Disney fan I have never seen a cookbook like this." — Nicole Get it from Amazon for $13.49.
