(Photo by) The Foo Fighters may or may not be entering a brand new era with 'Today's Song.' The tune appeared seemingly out of nowhere recently, and as it launches across a variety of Billboard charts, it's still unclear if the group is prepping the world for another full-length project, or if this track is, at least for now, a standalone release to be enjoyed by fans everywhere. The quick success of 'Today's Song' helps bring the band's Greatest Hits compilation back to the forefront, and back to the charts in the United States. The popularity of the just-dropped single seems to have improved the group's entire catalog, with many listeners likely focusing their streaming activity on the compilation. Foo Fighters Return with Greatest Hits Greatest Hits by the Foo Fighters appears on four Billboard tallies in America this week, reentering each and every one of them. The collection sits highest on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, landing at No. 12. On the Top Alternative Albums list, Greatest Hits also returns, settling in at No. 23. The project just misses the crucial top 40 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums roster, where it lands at No. 42. The Foo Fighters also reappear on the Billboard 200, the ranking of the most popular albums of any kind in the U.S. On that tally, Greatest Hits breaks back in at No. 178. Hundreds of Weeks on the Charts Luminate states that during the past tracking period in America, the Foo Fighters' compilation moved another 9,100 equivalent units. Almost all of those came from streaming activity, as the title sold only 350 copies. While Greatest Hits had recently disappeared from all four of the charts it returns to this frame, the full-length isn't new to any of them. The compilation has spent hundreds of weeks on each roster – the least of which stands at 284 weeks on the Billboard 200. The same project is nearing 450 weeks on the list of the most consumed hard rock collections in the country. 'Today's Song' Launches at No. 1 'Today's Song' is a quick win for the band on the Billboard charts where it debuts. The Foo Fighters earn an eighth career No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales tally as the tune opens in first place. The outfit's latest cut also starts inside the top 10 on the Rock & Alternative Airplay, Rock Digital Song Sales, and Alternative Digital Song Sales charts.

Foo Fighters Score A New Top 40 Bestseller With A Surprise New Hit

Foo Fighters' tune 'Today's Song' debuts at No. 40 on the U.K. Official Singles Downloads chart, ... More becoming the band's first hit in more than a year. INDIO, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 19: (FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Musician Dave Grohl, founding member of Nirvana and The Foo Fighters, performs onstage as a special guest with the Los Angeles Philharmonic during weekend 2, day 2 of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19, 2025 in Indio, California. (Photo byfor Coachella) Out of seemingly nowhere, the Foo Fighters recently released a new single titled "Today's Song." At the moment, it's unclear whether the band is working on a full-length or if the rock outfit simply wanted to give fans something to enjoy in the meantime. It doesn't seem to matter to longtime supporters of the Dave Grohl-fronted group, as listeners in the United Kingdom quickly began purchasing "Today's Song" the moment it became available, turning it into a top 40 success in no time. "Today's Song" Just Barely Reaches the Top 40 The latest from Foo Fighters opens at No. 40 on the Official Singles Downloads chart. At the same time, it lands five spaces lower on the Official Singles Sales list, which isn't focused on any one format, but rather encompasses all kinds of purchases, including downloads, CDs, cassettes, and vinyl. Years Since the Last Bestseller It has been a little more than two years since Foo Fighters scored a new hit on either the Official Singles Sales or Official Singles Downloads rankings. The group most recently appeared on the Official Singles Downloads chart in May 2023 with "Under You," which peaked at No. 59. The act last rose higher with "Rescue Me," its prior tune, which hit No. 28 in April 2023. The band returned to the Official Singles Sales chart in January 2024 with "The Glass," several months after both "Rescue Me" and "Under You" launched — and then quickly disappeared. Foo Fighters Close in on a Chart Milestone Throughout the decades that Foo Fighters have been together, the musicians have collected 17 wins on the Official Singles Sales chart. With one more tune, the group will hit two dozen placements on the ranking of the top-selling downloads throughout the U.K.

Foo Fighters Debut At No. 1 With A Surprise New Single

Foo Fighters debut 'Today's Song' at No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, marking the ... More band's eighth leader on Billboard's purchase-only tally. (Photo byfor Coachella) In addition to being one of rock's most critically adored bands, the Foo Fighters are also known to be fairly prolific. While some groups that have been together for decades space out releases by years and take long hiatuses, that's never been the case for the Dave Grohl-led outfit. The group recently dropped a brand new single, 'Today's Song,' with very little warning — and, as is typically the case whenever the Grammy winners produce new music, the track quickly found success in America. Foo Fighters Score a New No. 1 Hit 'Today's Song' has become not only a winner on several Billboard charts, but also a new champion for one of the most beloved names in rock. The track earns a lofty debut across a variety of Billboard's tallies, but it performs best on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. Foo Fighters collect an eighth No. 1 on that chart, as the surprise release launches in first place, replacing Disturbed's beloved cover of 'The Sound of Silence' atop the list. Eight No. 1s for the Foo Fighters Foo Fighters first reached No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart more than a decade ago when 'Rope' opened in first place in March 2011. It's been less than a year since the band last conquered the tally, earning a new leader when 'My Hero,' one of the band's most iconic tunes – and oldest – finally reached the summit in September 2024, nearly a decade after first appearing on the ranking of the bestselling hard rock tracks in the U.S. Including its latest champion, Foo Fighters have now ruled the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart with all of the following tracks: 'Everlong,' 'Boom,' 'Walk,' 'Rope,' 'My Hero,' 'Something from Nothing,' 'Run,' 'Times Like These,' and now, 'Today's Song.' A New Top 10 Hit on Multiple Charts 'Today's Song' kicks off its time inside the top 10 on four Billboard charts, three of which focus entirely on purchases. In addition to the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales tally, the latest from Foo Fighters enters the highest tier on both the Alternative Digital Song Sales and Rock Digital Song Sales lists, coming in at Nos. 4 and 7, respectively. 'Today Song' Becomes an Instant Radio Top 10 The track also scores a huge debut on the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, where it opens at No. 8. Starting off inside the top 10, or even at No. 1, on a sales-based roster is far more common than doing the same on a radio-focused ranking. While fans alone determine placement on sales charts, dozens (if not hundreds) of DJs and radio programmers must choose to put a track into heavy rotation immediately upon release for it to start inside the uppermost region on any airplay list.

Foo Fighters Release First New Song Since 2023, Pay Tribute To Former Band Members

Foo Fighters marked the band's 30th anniversary with the release of 'Today's Song,' the group's first new song since the 2023 album But Here We Are. In a lengthy note to accompany the release, Dave Grohl pays tribute to former band members including the recently fired drummer Josh Freese, founding drummer William Goldsmith, guitarist Franz Stahl and, most poignantly, the late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in 2022. In a portion of the letter addressed to Hawkins, Grohl, who apparently plays drums on the new song, writes, 'Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.' The new song, described in a press release as the band's 'opening salvo of its next chapter,' arrives 30 years since the release of Foo Fighters self-titled debut album and is the first new music since Grohl announced last year that he had fathered a daughter outside of his marriage and asked for his family for forgiveness. 'Over the years, we've had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak,' Grohl writes. 'Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat,' he wrote. 'We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can't go it alone. 'It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.' The band's current line-up includes Grohl (vocals and guitar), Rami Jaffee (keyboard), Nate Mendel (bass), Chris Shiflett (guitar) and Pat Smear (guitar). A new drummer has not been announced. Dave Grohl honors late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins on debut album's 30th anniversary: 'We all miss you'

Foo Fighters are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their eponymous 1995 debut album by paying tribute to those who have rocked with them over the years, including their beloved late drummer, Taylor Hawkins. The Grammy-winning rockers dropped a surprise single in honor of the milestone achievement on Wednesday. The roaring track, titled 'Today's Song," follows frontman Dave Grohl as he reflects on his own personal growth, navigating life's hardships, and the passage of time — themes that he further expanded upon in a poignant statement published on the band's website. 'Over the years, we've had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak,' Grohl wrote in part. 'Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can't go it alone.' The 56-year-old musician also took a moment to thank the band's previous members, including their latest drummer Josh Freese, who replaced Hawkins behind the drums on the last Foo Fighters tour and announced that he'd been let go from the group in May. 'It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete,' Grohl explained, 'so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.' And last, but certainly never least, Grohl shared a heartfelt message to Hawkins, who died suddenly at 50 while the band was on tour in 2022. 'And… Taylor. Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever,' he confirmed. 'The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.' But the end isn't in sight just yet. In his note, Grohl shared that 'I am still grateful for life, love, music, and the mystery of where this path may lead us next,' adding, 'Let's keep moving.' 'Today's Song' comes almost two years after the release of the band's 2023 album But Here We Are, which served as an exploration of grief following the death of Hawkins and Grohl's mother, Virginia. The album was shortlisted as one of Entertainment Weekly's best albums of the year at the time, calling it a 'stirring exploration of how we process grief and the many discordant emotions that come with it."
