Everton confirm new one-year contract for Seamus Coleman

SEAMUS COLEMAN HAS signed a one-year contract extension at Everton. The new deal means he will captain David Moyes' side as they begin life after Goodison Park in the Hill Dickinson Stadium. It will be a 17th season with the Toffees for the 36-year-old and the Killybegs man is raring to go after a frustrating spell with injury last term. Advertisement 'I love Everton so to continue playing for this special club means everything to me and my family,' Coleman told Everton's club website. 'Like every one of our passionate fans, I've lived and breathed what has been a difficult past few years for the club and have put my heart and soul into doing all I can to help us get through it. 'Thanks to the hard work of many people, we've been able to get into our magnificent new stadium and pave the way for a brighter future under ambitious new owners, which I want to be part of. 'It's well known we will have a lot of new faces in this summer and I hope I can help them settle in as quickly as possible. And after a disappointing time with injuries last season, my focus will be on working hard, spending as much time on the pitch as possible, and helping Everton any way I can.' Coleman also described David Moyes as 'the perfect manager to lead us into a new era' and the Scot was equally effusive after his captain signed up for another season. 'Seamus is more than just a player at Everton. He offers so many different qualities,' Moyes said. 'His leadership, his professionalism and his humanity are second to none. He's helped carry the club through some difficult periods in the past few years and his influence in the dressing room has been key to that. 'He's had to deal with some really difficult injuries, too, but he has done that and still been able to help inspire inside the dressing room at the same time. 'This could be a period of real change at the club and I want somebody who can help deliver the messages of what it means to be an Everton footballer. Seamus has always done that and I know he will continue to do so as we move into a new era.'

Coleman new deal extends Everton stay to 17th season

Everton club captain Seamus Coleman has signed a one-year contract extension to take his stay at the club into a 17th season. The 36-year-old right-back has made 428 appearances for Toffees across all competitions, and his 369 Premier League appearances is the club record. "I love Everton so to continue playing for this special club means everything to me and my family," said Republic of Ireland defender Coleman."Like every one of our passionate fans, I've lived and breathed what has been a difficult past few years for the club and have put my heart and soul into doing all I can to help us get through it."Coleman's previous deal was due to expire last move to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium next season after leaving Goodison Park, their home for 133 years."Thanks to the hard work of many people, we've been able to get into our magnificent new stadium and pave the way for a brighter future under ambitious new owners, which I want to be part of," said Coleman"After a disappointing time with injuries last season, my focus will be on working hard, spending as much time on the pitch as possible, and helping Everton any way I can."Coleman made just five league appearances during the 2024-25 campaign as he struggled with various injury issues and notably took interim charge of the side alongside Under-18s coach Leighton Baines after the sacking of Sean Dyche in January. 'More than just a player' Having been the man to sign Coleman for the club back in January 2009 for just £60,000, Everton manager David Moyes hailed the veteran defender's influence on the dressing room during his two spells in charge. "His leadership, his professionalism and his humanity are second to none. He's helped carry the club through some difficult periods in the past few years and his influence in the dressing room has been key to that," said Moyes."He's had to deal with some really difficult injuries, too, but he has done that and still been able to help inspire inside the dressing room at the same time."This could be a period of real change at the club and I want somebody who can help deliver the messages of what it means to be an Everton footballer. New Everton stadium to have decreased crowd size for Premier League games

Everton have confirmed the official capacity of their new Hill Dickinson Stadium and why the official capacity has been changed Everton have officially announced that the capacity of Hill Dickinson Stadium for Premier League matches and other sporting events. The figure is slightly down on the original designated capacity, proposed as part of the final design created five years ago. It has been reduced slightly following a thorough post-construction audit and review of the seating configuration across the stadium. The Toffees are moving into their new home this summer, having departed long-time home Goodison Park. ‌ That initial proposed capacity of 52,888, has thus become be 52,769. Everton have clarified that factors such as segregation lines between home and away sections, as well as compliance and provision for media facilities and camera positions, have contributed to the original maximum capacity being reduced by 0.2 percent (119 seats). ‌ The club reassured fans that no season ticket seats have been affected by this minor reduction in capacity. Everton will officially open the stadium later this summer. Brighton and Hove Albion will be the first Premier League visitors in the 2025-26 season, on Saturday August 23. Two weeks before they face Italian side Roma - also owned by the Friedkin Group - in a pre-season friendly, taking place on August 9 in a 3pm kick-off. READ MORE: 'I couldn't say no to Frank Lampard – he was calling two or three times a day to sign me' That fixture will serve as the club's third and final test event, with a full house expected Despite the revised capacity, Everton will still be able to play in front of the largest regular crowds in the club's history. The Blues have only ever seen an average gate of over 50,000 once (51,603 for the 1962/63 title-winning season), although their record attendance at Goodison Park, England's first purpose-built football ground and venue for the most top flights matches where they played for 133 years from 1892-2025 was 78,299 for a Merseyside Derby against Liverpool on 18 September 1948. That was one of 16 occasions that the venue attracted crowds of over 70,000 for Everton games. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. EXCLUSIVE Man United's biggest loss this summer: Insiders reveal the huge hole left by Nick Cox's Everton move, how he transformed United's academy and the reason every player's parents will miss him

Even as late as this week, Nick Cox was keen to confine talk of his exit to as small a circle as possible. After nine years at Manchester United, Cox is heading for a new challenge at Everton where the prospect of becoming technical director and getting the scope to map out a brighter future for the Toffees was simply too good a role to turn down.

Everton backed to complete 'perfect' Man Utd transfer for David Moyes

Everton could target Manchester United in the summer transfer window and one player would be a 'perfect match' for David Moyes if the Toffees were to get a deal over the line Everton should target a summer move for Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund according to their former player Pat Nevin. Hojlund has endured two difficult seasons since joining the Red Devils in a £72million deal from Atalanta. The 22-year-old scored 10 goals in 52 appearances last term as United struggled to find the net and 16 goals in 43 outings during his debut season in 2023/24. Ruben Amorim is looking to strengthen his forward line this summer having already added Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen linked to transfers. ‌ Nevin, who played 150 games for the Toffees and scored 21 goals, reckons David Moyes would be able to prise the Denmark international away from Old Trafford on loan. And he believes the Everton boss will find a player well-suited to his style. ‌ Moyes will find himself short a striker as Dominic Calvert-Lewin's contract runs out at the end of June. And Nevin reckons the perfect solution is out there. Speaking to Spin Genie, the ex-Scotland international has urged Moyes to make a move. "There are some good names out there," said Nevin. "The loan market is something Everton have looked at in the past and I think it's something they should revisit again. It gives them all sorts of possibilities as they're not spending £50 million. "There are two or three players that they could think about bringing in from Manchester United but Rasmus Hojlund is the one that sticks out. If you look at his style of play, it's a perfect match with how David Moyes likes to play. While his numbers haven't been great this season, Moyes loves hard workers and that's something you can never complain about in regards to Hojlund. "It's not very often David Moyes has had a 20-30 goals-per-season striker. He's had strikers who run in behind and create space to bring others into play, so, if he's available, Hojlund could be a tempting option for Everton to sign on loan." ‌ Everton have already missed out on Liam Delap this summer, after the striker joined Chelsea. Moyes has admitted that the Toffees will need to find greater success to enjoy an easier time in the transfer market. 'Players, if they have the chance, want to play in the Champions League. I've just come out of a club ( West Ham United) where three out of four years we played in Europe and what a difference it makes when you're a club in Europe because the players are attracted, whatever European competition that is, is attractive to a lot of players and makes a big difference," he said. 'We're not at that at the moment so I don't know if I can compare us selling Wayne [Rooney] but we were always a club that didn't have a huge amount of money. We had to generate some money ourselves. 'But then, the club had £500million to spend and in that period and I don't think it was as good as when we spent carefully and were a little bit wiser."
