Shreveport Mayor highlights Economic Development Website, talks father's Day event, and speed camera bill
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux highlights a new initiative to boost local business growth, celebrate community events, and address updates on traffic enforcement. Salute the Badge: A candid conversation with SPD Chief Wayne Smith One of the most significant announcements was the launch of a new economic development website, a one-stop shop designed to facilitate the city's collaboration with entrepreneurs and small business owners. 'When we came into office, we wanted to simplify the process for people to do business in and with the city,' said Mayor Arceneaux. 'You can now find checklists, permit information, and applications online, without needing to visit Government Plaza.' The website is accessible from the city's homepage and includes resources tailored to new and existing business owners. 'Small businesses create most of the jobs in this country,' the mayor emphasized, 'so we want to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit right here in Shreveport.' Mayor Arceneaux also expressed his excitement about the upcoming Father's Day 5K, organized by community leader Alex T. Ray. The mayor will attend—'more walking than running,' he joked—and praised the event's focus on fatherhood and community unity. 'There's strong data that shows children who grow up with a father or father figure do better in life.' Shreveport mayor speaks on La. speed camera bill The mayor also acknowledged recent successes that have brought national attention to the city, including the LSUS Pilots' national championship win and their record-setting 59–0 season. 'They'll be forever in the record books,' Arceneaux said proudly. Finally, he addressed Senate Bill 99, which limits the use of speed cameras to school zones. Celebrate the Pilots' history making season
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The City of Shreveport invites the public to wear purple and gold for a community-wide celebration of the LSU Shreveport Pilots' baseball team's history-making season. 'LSUS (58-0) broke the collegiate baseball record with its 58th-straight win Thursday night and will face Southeastern, Florida, tonight in the championship game,' stated the City of Shreveport. According to the City of Shreveport, Friday's NAIA World Series win would deliver the 'first-ever national champions in LSUS's history, but in the event of a loss, the Pilots would have a second chance Saturday in this double-elimination tournament.' Monday's event aims to celebrate the crowning of a national champion, highlighting the most remarkable college baseball season across all levels. Shreveport's own aims to take it all at the French Open, who is Christian Harrison 'This team has shown the heart, discipline, and relentless drive that define champions,' said Mayor Tom Arceneaux, 'No matter the final outcome, the City of Shreveport is immensely proud of what they've accomplished, and we look forward to honoring them with the celebration they've earned.' 'It's been a privilege to watch this team in their historic pursuit of perfection,' said LSUS Chancellor Dr. Robert Smith. Shreveport police crackdown on squatters with operation blue
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Mayor Tom Arceneaux proposed, and the city council approved a new ordinance on squatting, which went into effect in April 2025. The mayor said, 'I am pleased with the way that this is working, and I think it has in fact given police a new tool to help with people who are in houses where they don't have a right to belong.' Shreveport police have begun enforcing it with Operation Blue. They have arrested over a dozen squatters. Police say some of the crimes committed by squatters have included unauthorized entry, burglary, trespassing, property damage, theft, drug activity, and even armed threats. Caddo Commissioner John-Paul Young says the city needs to aggressively go after the owners of blighted property. Blighted properties are handouts for squatters. He told us, 'Owning a blighted property has been a crime in Shreveport for twenty-one years. It's long past time the mayor kept his main campaign promises to restore our neighborhoods to safety and livability by enforcing this law against absent owners.' Young says he is talking about ordinance 58-207 (Penalty for maintaining blight), which is a criminal misdemeanor punishable by a five-hundred-dollar fine or thirty days in jail per day until the issue is corrected. In response, the mayor said, 'I'm not going to debate Commissioner Young in the media. I think there are lots of tools that have, and we're looking at all those tools to see what are the most effective tools for enforcement.' Give for Good raises $2.53 million for north Louisiana nonprofits
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Community Foundation of North Louisiana announced that Give for Good, in its 12th year, raised $2,535,735 for over 200 regional nonprofits. GFG is an annual online fundraiser that invites all to take part in philanthropy and help transform communities. Fundraiser to reunite siblings, fight against muscular dystrophy 'Give for Good is such a wonderful celebration of our community's generosity and collaborative spirit,' said CFNLA CEO Kristi Gustavson. 'We are honored to provide this opportunity to showcase the vital contributions our local nonprofits make to our community and are so proud of the way that our citizens step up year after year to support this work. Thank you to all the individuals and organizations participating in Give for Good 2025!' Over $2.53 million was raised through 8,708 gifts from 4,207 donors to support 222 regional nonprofits. GFG has raised nearly $25 million since its creation in 2014. Caddo Parish leaders unite in Baton Rouge for joint legislation
CADDO PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – On Thursday, April 24th, more than 80 leaders from across Caddo Parish traveled together to Baton Rouge to engage directly with cabinet departments and members of the legislature on behalf of the citizens of Caddo Parish, according to a press release. 'We were delighted to be able to bring so many of our local leaders to Baton Rouge for this inaugural event,' said Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux. 'This is the first time in recent memory that we have brought the needs of Shreveport and Caddo Parish to Baton Rouge as a group.' SPD hosts Gary, Indiana police officers as part of Public Safety Partnership Organizations included Caddo Parish administrators and commissioners, Shreveport administration and council members, Shreveport Police and Fire Departments, District Attorney's Office, Caddo Schools administration and School Board members, Caddo Sheriff, Shreveport City Marshall, Port of Caddo-Bossier, LSUS, NLCOG, NLEP, Red River Waterway Commission, Caddo Levee District, Caddo Head Start, Town of Vivian, Village of Ida, and Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber and the Greater Shreveport Chamber. 'Caddo Parish Day at the Capitol is all about collaboration,' said Caddo Parish Administrator/CEO Erica R. Bryant.
