Springfield Public Schools employee named Chiefs nominee for NFL Fan of the Year
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Executive Elementary Director for Springfield Public Schools, Tom Masterson, was named the Chiefs nominee for NFL Fan of the Year, and he is enjoying the trip of a lifetime in New Orleans.
A Chiefs season ticket holder for over a decade, Masterson is attending the Super Bowl with his wife in New Orleans on Sunday and gets to go on field level before the game.
'I knew I couldn't afford it and I never thought I would win it, never thought that would happen,' said Masterson. 'So when I found out that I was getting to go and [Chiefs owner] Clark Hunt gave me the tickets, it was when I knew it was like 'This is not real.''
Masterson didn't win the overall NFL Fan of the Year award — that went to Detroit Lions fan Megan Stefanski — but for him, it isn't about winning.

Masterson says he hopes this platform will bring people's attention to an important organization that helped his family when he and his wife lost two children in tragic situations.
'It's an organization that's supported our family through the loss of a couple of our kids called On Angel's Wings, an option to bring attention and light to an organization that people don't really know about until they need it,' said Masterson. 'That's a really cool opportunity to just use that platform for it.'
On Angel's Wings is an organization that helps families who have lost children in the grieving process.
Masterson says he is grateful for everyone who has voted for him along the way and is hoping to see a historic three-peat in person.
