‘Moral equivalence': Albanese won't condemn Chinese naval exercises off Australia's coast
Centre of Independent Studies' Tom Switzer says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has attempted to draw a moral equivalence between China's live fire exercises off the coast of Australia and Australian naval exercises in the South China Sea. 'The problem for Albo is that on the question of China, he doesn't really do more to condemn the Chinese naval exercises in our waters,' Mr Switzer told Sky News host Chris Kenny. 'At times in the past … few months, he has tried to draw a moral equivalence between the Chinese conduct in Australian waters and what the Australian naval exercises do in the South China Sea.'

‘No wonder the ASX lost $20 billion': Trump flags tariffs on pharmaceuticals
Centre of Independent Studies' Tom Switzer says the Australian pharmaceutical sector has a 'comparative advantage' after US President Donald Trump flagged tariffs on pharmaceuticals. This comes amid today's blow to the ASX of around $20 billion. 'I think it's much worse news for Australia than other tariffs – after all, pharmaceuticals are one of those few areas beyond the mining … where we really have a comparative advantage,' Mr Switzer told Sky News host Chris Kenny. 'Our innovators do a tremendous job of converting complicated technology into commercial success. 'No wonder why the ASX today lost $20 billion – even more reason for Canberra to have greater access to Washington to try to cushion the blow.'

‘Delicate diplomatic act': Australia's position likened to ‘riding two horses simultaneously'
Centre of Independent Studies' Tom Switzer says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has skewed things further in China's direction after his fourth meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. 'All prime ministers in the last 25 years have tried to reconcile our close trade relations with China and our most important security relationship with the United States,' Mr Switzer told Sky News host Chris Kenny. 'It's a bit like riding two horses simultaneously – it's a very delicate diplomatic act. 'He [Anthony Albanese] has probably skewed things further into China's direction.'

Australia's credibility not damaged from siding with US strikes on Iran
Centre of Independent Studies' Tom Switzer says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's stance on US strikes in Iran does not damage Australia's credibility, nor does it isolate Australia from the world. 'Bear in mind … many nations around the world, including US allies, Japan, South Korea, have not given unqualified and unconditional support to these US strikes,' Mr Switzer told Sky News host Peta Credlin. 'Many Americans, from left to right, Democrats and Republicans, are highly anxious that this could drag the United States once again into a forever war. 'I don't think that Canberra's stance really damages Australian credibility or isolates us in the world, especially if there is a ceasefire.'
