Ghaziabad vigilantes pressure KFC, Nazeer to halt non-veg food in Vasundhara during Kanwar Yatra
Two restaurants in Ghaziabad's Vasundhara locality — including a KFC outlet — came under pressure from a self-styled vigilante group on Thursday for serving non-vegetarian food during the Kanwar Yatra , reported TOI. The group, led by a man with a long criminal record, demanded that the outlets switch to vegetarian-only menus, despite not being located on the designated Kanwar route and not falling under the government's official meat-sale restrictions. According to eyewitnesses, the group harassed staff and customers, demanding that no non-vegetarian items be served during the religious yatra. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Is Why Smart People Put Baking Soda in Their Shampoo Read More Undo According to the report, under pressure, the KFC outlet complied and displayed a notice that read 'we are serving only veg.' Nikita Rana, manager of the KFC branch, said the outlet closed for several hours and resumed operations later in the day with a vegetarian-only menu . 'It impacted business significantly. KFC is known for chicken, and more than 70% of our footfall dropped,' she said. Live Events At the Nazeer outlet nearby, manager Mahesh Kumar Bagel said a crowd gathered outside the restaurant, questioning staff over their menu. 'We explained we were not violating any rules, but they wouldn't listen. We had to shut down for over five hours,' he said, adding that no formal complaint was filed since there was no physical harm, though they would consider it if harassment continued. No Official Restriction, Yet Business Disrupted As per government directives, only shops selling raw meat directly along the Kanwar route are required to close during the Yatra. Both KFC and Nazeer are located away from the official route and are not subject to these restrictions. Despite this, Bhupendra Tomar — also known as Pinky Choudhary — who leads the group, claimed they would continue to enforce a vegetarian-only rule during the Yatra, offering restaurants a 'choice' to remain open if they complied, TOI further reported. Tomar, 49, is no stranger to controversy. He has at least 25 cases registered against him across Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, and Delhi. From vandalising AAP's office in 2014 to being arrested for communal sloganeering at Jantar Mantar in 2021, Tomar has been repeatedly associated with acts of intimidation and public disorder. Most recently, in April, members of his outfit defaced a portrait at Ghaziabad railway station, mistaking Bahadur Shah Zafar for Aurangzeb. Police Respond, FIR Registered Though neither restaurant filed a complaint, police took suo motu cognisance of the incident. An FIR was registered at Indirapuram police station under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for disobedience of public orders. DCP Nimish Patil confirmed that police teams have been formed to identify and arrest those involved. 'We responded immediately on Thursday. Traffic was disrupted in the area as well. KFC has resumed regular service, and we've assured them of police support if needed,' Patil said. Customers who turned up on Friday expecting to order from the usual menu expressed frustration. 'No one should dictate what we eat,' said Soumya Banerjee, a disappointed customer. 'I respect religious sentiments, but no one has the right to interfere in personal choices,' added Kunal Verma, a Vasundhara resident. Meanwhile, TOI sources in Ghaziabad police confirmed that while proceedings under the Goondas Act had previously been initiated against Tomar, the process was not completed due to protests by his supporters. Police Commissioner J Ravinder Goud said action against Tomar will be reviewed based on his past record.

Tribal village gets electricity after 78 yrs of Independence
1 2 Kota: In a long-awaited transformation, the Sahariya tribal community of Sanvara village in Baran district finally received electricity connections after waiting for more than seven decades since India's independence. The development came as part of the PM Janman Scheme, bringing light to 40 houses and benefiting nearly 200 tribal residents. The breakthrough occurred following a 'Ratri Chaupal' (night meeting) last month, where former sarpanch Badrilal Sahariya brought the matter to district collector Rohitashwa Singh Tomar's attention. The settlement, located in a remote hilly area about 175 km from the Baran district headquarters, had been living in darkness for generations. Acting swiftly on the grievance, collector Tomar ordered a site inspection and directed Superintendent Engineer NM Bilotia to complete the electrification within 15 days. Despite challenging terrain, the engineering team successfully installed the necessary infrastructure in just 20 days, including 2 km of 11 KV line, 1 km of LT line, two single-phase 25 kV transformers and 38 new electric poles. "The entire village is elated and celebrating the lit-up nights," said Arun Sahariya, grandson of Badri Sahariya. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Μενεμένη: Ζητούνται 200 άτομα για δωρεάν δοκιμή ακουστικού Akoustica Medica Undo "This has been a long-awaited dream for our community." Collector Tomar said, "This transformation in just 20-25 days demonstrates our commitment to addressing public issues promptly through our night meeting program."

The European hidden gem named one of the top places to relocate to - and it's even home to a beautiful castle
Europe's best hidden gem has been revealed and this incredibly beautiful city is also one of Portugal's best places to move to. Tomar, a Portuguese city located between Porto and Lisbon, took the crown as the continent's best hidden gem in a new study by HomeToGo. The research used the holiday home company's internal search data to find some of the least-searched for destinations in Europe. Despite its location between two of Portugal's leading destinations, many Brits have never heard of beautiful Tomar. But they might want to get it on their radar. The historic city is also one of the best places to move to in Portugal, according to a property expert. 'Tomar is a charming city known for its rich history and stunning architecture, including the UNESCO-listed Convent of Christ, a former Templar stronghold,' said Paul Stubbs, team leader for PPProperty. 'The city offers picturesque streets, beautiful gardens, and vibrant festivals that capture the essence of Portuguese culture.' The UNESCO Convent of Christ is the city's top-rated attraction on Tripadvisor with an impressive rating of 4.8 out of five stars. Visitors can explore the complex's monasteries, wander its cloisters and discover the history of the Knights Templar. And unlike other popular historic attractions in Portugal, the convent is usually fairly uncrowded. Next on the list is Tomar Castle. Built in 1160 as a Templar stronghold, the Castle is one of Tomar's most impressive attractions. Both the city's Castle and the Convent can be visited together on one trip. Every four years, Tomar celebrates the unique Festa dos Tabuleiros - the Festival of the Trays. Girls carry tabuleiros (stacks of bread and flowers, topped with a crown) on their heads and parade through the city. The last celebration took place in 2023 with the next planned for July 2027. Tourists can also explore the Synagogue of Tomar, a medieval Jewish temple that was built in the mid 15th century. Visit Portugal describes it as 'the only one of its kind from this period to have been fully preserved in Portugal'. And this hidden city even has its own special dessert. Visitors can explore the complex's monasteries, wander its cloisters and discover the history of the Knights Templar Fatias de Tomar were originally created by the nuns of the Convent of Christ and are made from soaking bread slices in a sugary syrup. The bread is then baked in a special 'chimney' style spot and while there's nothing pious about the sweet treat, it is rumoured to be every friar's favourite dessert. How to get to Tomar Tomar is just over an hour from Lisbon by train so British tourists can best reach the city by flying to the Portuguese capital. Porto is slightly further away with a train between the two cities taking around two hours and 20 minutes.

Delhi belongs to all, not just one community or caste
Whom does Delhi belong to? It's a very difficult question to answer given the cultural, caste and community mosaic of the city ever since it was founded by the Tomar King Anang Pal almost 1500 years ago. He built the first city of Lal Kot, which was captured by the Chauhans in the mid-12th century and renamed it Qila Rai Pithora. However the oldest archaeological relic found in the national Capital is of Mauryan period that is 1200 years further back in history. After the defeat of Prithviraj Chauhan at Battle of Tarain in 1192, came the Sultanate, then the Mughals, the British and finally independence. All through this period, irrespective of which community did the ruler belong to, Delhi's cultural life continued to be a mosaic described earlier. Thus it is very surprising that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta could recommend renaming of Delhi Junction, popularly known as Old Delhi Railway station, after a Vaishya caste icon Maharaja Agrasen. According to newspaper reports she has written to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw saying, 'I am writing to respectfully request your kind consideration for renaming the Old Delhi Railway Station in honour of Maharaja Agrasen, a revered historical figure whose legacy has had a profound impact on the socio-economic development of India, particularly in Delhi.' In the chronology of kings and dynasties which ruled Delhi, Maharaja Agrasen doesn't figure. He is part of the legend and believed to belong to the lineage of Lord Ram of Ayodhya, his 34th generation descendent. He is said to have adopted the Vanika dharma (trading duties) and the Vaishya community draws its lineage from him.
