Tyber Creek will open its new location on June 30
Tyber Creek, a Charlotte institution since 1999, will open the doors to its new home on June 30 at 3pm.
Why it matters: It's hard to recreate an atmosphere when a business moves, but the team behind Tyber Creek aims to bring the essence of the beloved original spot to life in a new location.
Context: Tyber Creek over the years became a destination for sporting events and live music. Its former home, at the corner of Tremont Avenue and South Boulevard, was routinely packed. That original location closed in March 2024 to make way for a new development.
Southern Land Company, a Nashville developer, plans to build a new tower with around 300 luxury rental units on the site where the pub used to be.
The team behind Tyber Creek will open a new business in the tower, they confirmed to Axios.
What to expect: The new Tyber Creek on Mint has a similar feel to the original. It even has the original downstairs bar.
Bordering the patio is a wall of reclaimed doors, sourced over the years from Connolly's, Dandelion Market, the OG Tyber Creek, and other businesses owned by Tommy Timmins, Maynard Goble and Kevin Devin.
There will be outdoor seating, a food truck serving traditional Irish pub fare like fish and chips, and a kitchen serving salads, charcuterie and flat breads. The food truck will also serve a spice bag, which is fries with peppers and onions — it's drink food at its best, the owners tell Axios.
The pub is also part of the Butterfly Highway, a statewide conservation restoration initiative that's restoring native pollinator habitats. Katie Hamm, who used to work at The Workman's Friend and is the owner of HammMade HammGrown, created the pub's outdoor garden.
The big picture: Tyber Creek's new location, a multi-building property that's walking distance from Bank of America Stadium, will open in phases. The first phase includes the building at the corner of Mint Street and Summit Avenue. It's roughly 1,900 square feet of interior space and 5,000 square feet of exterior space.
The wall of doors mentioned above will separate patrons from construction on phase two. The second building, which is roughly 2,000 square feet, will include the downstairs bar from the original location.
Phase three, which includes the third building, will house office space and room for events. The third building is roughly 2,200 square feet.
By the numbers: Phase one cost roughly $750,000, according to the owners. The total cost of the project is TBD.
Between the lines: The property has limited space where street-facing signage is allowed, the owners say, including one that had a mural honoring the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi. A plaque is in place commemorating the mural.
What's next: A grand opening will occur after phase two, which is expected to be complete this fall. There is no timeline for phase three.
The bottom line: Right now, the focus is on opening the business's doors again. The owners say they expect the first few months to feel like a reunion.
Stop by: Tyber Creek is at 1501 S. Mint St. Hours are 3pm-2am on weekdays and 11am-2am Friday through Sunday.
