And his debut season ended with victory in the Asian Champions League, with Toney also bagging 30 goals in all competitions. But the forward's summer turned sour when he returned to London this week. Posting a picture on Instagram Stories, Toney revealed that his car had been broken into by thieves. The hitman showed that the vehicle's glass windows had been smashed in. It's not known if the thieves managed to steal anything from the car. But Toney expressed his displeasure with a caption that read: 'This is why I hate London.' The ex-Peterborough ace could find himself back in London in September if he retains his place in Thomas Tuchel's England squad. Toney was recalled for June's matches against Andorra and Senegal. But he failed to come off the bench in the 1-0 win over Andorra. 'That's what he can give' - Stroppy Tuchel suggests Ivan Toney will NOT get more playing time due to 'specialist' role While Toney managed just several minutes in the shock 3-1 defeat to Senegal. England's next match sees them take on Andorra again, this time at Wembley. September also has England playing Serbia, with games against Wales and Latvia to come in October.

Techie lost her job to AI but had a backup career plan. Why she left software engineering forever?
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the job market, workers across various industries are grappling with its impact. In the tech sector especially, automation and machine learning are changing how work gets done—and in many cases, who gets to do it. For some, these changes bring opportunity. For others, they signal a time to move on. One software engineer from Oklahoma made the rare decision to walk away from tech entirely, not out of defeat but with a clear backup plan already in motion. As per Business Insider, Tabby Toney, 37, was among the many engineers who saw the writing on the wall. Speaking to Business Insider, she shared how AI was transforming her work in ways she no longer enjoyed. The hands-on problem-solving and creativity she once thrived on were being replaced by systems that left little room for individual input. As layoffs swept across the industry, she wasn't surprised when her own job was cut in May 2025. Rather than return to the same field, Toney turned to something very different: welding. What started as a high school hobby became a serious option as she sought work that felt more purposeful. Welding offered her the same kind of intellectual challenge she once found in coding—but with more tangible results. She's now preparing to begin formal training and build a future outside the tech world. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! Donate For Health Donate Now Undo The U.S. tech industry in January-March quarter led all sectors in job cuts. Microsoft recently announced plans to lay off nearly 4% of its workforce, following a previous round of layoffs in May that affected around 6,000 employees. The move comes as the company ramps up investments in AI infrastructure while cutting costs elsewhere. AI is already transforming operations, from customer service to software development. According to a Bloomberg report, AI now generates 35% of the code for new products, significantly accelerating product launches. A Career Built Through Persistence Before leaving the industry, Toney had built a solid career in software, despite not following a traditional path. She started in manual testing, learning programming through self-study and online resources. Over time, she worked her way into fullstack development roles, handling everything from backend APIs to frontend features. Her most recent position was at SumerSports, where she worked remotely from September 2023 to May 2025. Prior to that, she held engineering roles at Clevyr and Tailwind, contributing to projects using TypeScript, Laravel, and PostgreSQL. She was also involved in mentoring junior developers and writing unit tests. At Calvient, she helped integrate social login features and automate surveys. Earlier, she had significant QA engineering experience at Trimble Inc. and Paycom, focusing on automated testing and quality assurance tools. Experience Beyond Software Before transitioning into tech, Toney worked in fields ranging from education to client services. At the Oklahoma Historical Society, she coordinated public programming and edited publications. She also taught U.S. history at Rose State College and the University of Central Oklahoma. Her earlier jobs included roles as a legal assistant and client advisor—positions that demonstrate her adaptability and broad skill set. Now, with a new career path ahead of her, Toney is focused on learning the craft of welding in depth. Though she's already taken on small projects, she plans to begin formal training in August. She says she has no plans to return to software, feeling a sense of relief and clarity after stepping away.

This Date in Baseball - Andy Pettitte passes Whitey Ford for the most Ks in Yankees history, 1,957
July 1 1910 — Comiskey Park — then known as White Sox Park — held its first major league game, with the St. Louis Browns beating Chicago 2-0. 1917 — Fred Toney of the Cincinnati Reds pitched complete-game victories in a doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Toney threw a three-hitter in each game for 4-1 and 5-1 wins, setting a record for the fewest hits allowed in a doubleheader by a pitcher. 1920 — Walter Johnson of the Washington Senators defeated the Boston Red Sox 1-0 at Fenway Park with the season's only no-hitter. 1925 — Hack Wilson of the New York Giants hit two home runs in the third inning of a 16-7 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the second game of a doubleheader. Wilson also doubled twice during the game. 1941 — Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees singled off Boston's Jack Wilson in the fourth inning, tying Willie Keeler's hitting streak of 44 games. 1951 — Bob Feller of the Indians pitched his third career no-hitter, beating the Detroit Tigers 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader at Cleveland. 1990 — Andy Hawkins of the New York Yankees pitched the sixth no-hitter in the majors this season and the third in less than 48 hours, but lost 4-0 to the Chicago White Sox on two outfield errors in the eighth inning. 1997 — Detroit's Bobby Higginson homered in the first inning against the New York Mets, tying a major league record by homering in four consecutive at-bats over two games. Higginson, who struck out looking in his next at-bat, became the 23rd player since 1900 to accomplish the feat and the fourth Tiger. 2009 — One run was enough for a victory for three National League teams, the first time in 33 years there were three 1-0 games in one league on the same day. The Mets, Dodgers and Reds came away with 1-0 victories. The last time there were three 1-0 games in one league was Sept. 1, 1976, in the NL. 2009 — Hanley Ramirez extended his RBI streak to 10 games in the Florida Marlins' 5-3 victory over the Washington Nationals. Ramirez hit a two-run double in the third inning to become the first shortstop in NL history with an RBI streak of double-digit games. 2013 — Andy Pettitte passes Whitey Ford for the most strikeouts in New York Yankees history when he records his 1,957th in the Yankees' 10 - 4 win over the Twins. The win goes to reliever Joba Chamberlain, his first of the year, as he benefits from a three-run outburst off reliever Jared Burton in the 8th. The Yankees then add four runs in the top of the 9th as they end a five-game losing streak. 2014 — The Cleveland Indians executed an unorthodox triple play in the fourth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers that required two video replay reviews to sort out. With runners on first and third, Adrian Gonzalez lifted a fly ball to left fielder Michael Brantley, who threw out Dee Gordon at the plate. Catcher Yan Gomes then fired to second baseman Jason Kipnis for the tag on Yasiel Puig as he slid headfirst. Cleveland manager Terry Francona challenged the original safe call at second and got the play overturned after a replay delay that lasted 1 minute, 29 seconds. Dodgers skipper Don Mattingly then challenged the call at the plate, but that call stood after another wait of 1 minute, 34 seconds. Cleveland went on to a 10-3 win. 2015 — Carlos Carrasco came within one strike of throwing the Cleveland Indians' first no-hitter since 1981, giving up an RBI single to Joey Butler over leaping second baseman Jason Kipnis' glove in an 8-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. 2019 — Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs is found dead in his hotel room a few hour before the team's scheduled game with the Texas Rangers. Police confirm that no foul play is suspected. 2021 — The results of the vote for starters at the 2021 All-Star Game are announced and youth is well represented as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. leads all players for most votes received, and other brash youngsters such as Fernando Tatis Jr., Shohei Ohtani, Rafael Devers, Adam Frazier, Teoscar Hernandez and Jesse Winker join him as first-timers voted in by fans, while Ronald Acuna is a second-timer at 23. It's veterans like Salvador Perez and Mike Trout - who is injured and likely to miss the game - who stand out in this group. _____

New York Giants alternate universe: Passing on Kadarius Toney in 2021 NFL draft
During the 2021 NFL draft, in a shocking turn of events, New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman traded back from pick No. 11 to No. 20 in a swap with the Bears that landed quarterback Justin Fields in Chicago. The selection of wide receiver Kadarius Toney at pick No. 20 that followed was one of the more regrettable picks in recent memory for the Giants. Bleacher Report recently released a list re-drafting every team's worst pick over the last five years, and in this alternate universe, the Giants had a chance for a do-over. Instead of Toney, they selected offensive lineman Christian Darrisaw. Original Pick: WR Kadarius Toney at No. 20 (2021) This one was a bit of a toss-up between offensive lineman Evan Neal (2022) and Toney, but Neal is at least still on the roster and will likely play out his rookie contract with the Giants. Meanwhile, Toney played in just 12 games for New York, making five starts and posting a stat line of 41 catches, 420 yards and three touchdowns. The wideout was traded in October of his second season and won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, but he wasn't a major factor in the Chiefs offense and is currently not on an NFL roster. New Pick: OT Christian Darrisaw (originally 23rd by the Minnesota Vikings) The rationale for the new pick here is the domino effect it would have created. With Andrew Thomas and Darrisaw at offensive tackle, the Giants wouldn't have taken Neal at No. 7 the following year and then, essentially, would be able to exchange Toney for Drake London, Garrett Wilson or Chris Olave. Toney most certainly had the talent to be a contributor on an NFL team, both as a wide receiver and as a returner. Still, he was too much of a headache and did not complete his sophomore season before the Giants parted ways. Toney won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs. He also spent time with the Cleveland Browns, where his tenure is somewhat comical as he was elevated to the active roster for one game, where he muffed a punt and was called for a taunting penalty before his release days later. Subbing Darrisaw in place of Toney would have given the Giants two really nice pieces at tackle. It's interesting to think about the possibility of the Giants having a formidable offensive line while they still had Saquon Barkley on the roster.
