Actor calls out Madonna for using iPad during Broadway musical 'Hamilton'

In 2013, Madonna was caught furiously texting during the New York Film Festival premiere of '12 Years A Slave'. Photo: TNS Former Hamilton star Anthony Ramos is calling out Madonna for being on her iPad the entire time she was in the audience of the Tony-winning Broadway hit. While appearing on Watch What Happens Live this week, the Brooklynite, 33, exposed the Queen of Pop's lack of etiquette after Andy Cohen asked him to identify 'the most terrifying celebrity' he'd seen in the crowd during his run in Hamilton . 'The most terrifying was Madonna with an iPad in her face … the whole time,' recalled Ramos, who originated the roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton. 'I was like, damn, shorty, if you're not enjoying it that much, you know the door's right there. You ain't gotta stay here.' In 2015, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda — who also originated the role of the titular Founding Father — wrote in a since-deleted tweet that 'tonight was the first time I asked stage management NOT to allow a celebrity (who was texting all through Act 2) backstage,' according to A source told the outlet at the time that Madge not only arrived late to the show, but used her phone multiple times during both acts. The Hamilton incident came about a year-and-a-half after Madonna was caught furiously texting during the New York Film Festival premiere of 12 Years A Slave in 2013. In the wake of that incident, the Alamo Drafthouse cinema chain said she was banned from their theatres until she issued an apology to moviegoers. However, Madonna might have mended her ways in the intervening years, having famously enacted a cellphone ban during her 2019 Madame X Tour. 'People loved it and appreciated it,' a promoter told London paper The Times . 'They could just enjoy the show and interact with each other with nothing obstructing the view.' A tour insider at the time also said Madonna was hoping to engender some 'intimacy' by playing smaller venues for screen-free crowds. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service

Hugh Jackman Dealt Major Blow As His One-Man Show Struggles At Box Office Amid Divorce

Hugh Jackman may be a household name with a string of box office hits under his belt, but his latest one-man show in New York City isn't drawing the crowd he had hoped for. The "Wolverine" star returned to the Great White Way in a starring role in "From New York With Love." However, fans seem to have shied away from purchasing tickets en masse for Friday and Saturday's run, forcing the showrunners to slash prices for seats. Hugh Jackman's show debuted in January and will run for eight more nights in July, August, September, and October. Amid drama with his divorce, Hugh Jackman's return to the stage in "From New York With Love" isn't going quite as planned. The Tony-winning actor has upcoming performances this Friday and Saturday, but according to the Daily Mail, ticket sales have not been strong. This has forced the showrunners to roll out price cuts to boost attendance at NYC's Radio City Music Hall, the venue for the event. Now, those interested can secure regular seats for Friday's show at just $98, while Saturday's matinee tickets are priced even lower, starting at $60. As for premium seats, they are now going for $212, less than a third of the price some tickets to Paul Simon's nearby show at the Beacon Theatre were sold for. Despite the sluggish sales, the show is expected to continue with eight more performances scheduled across July, August, September, and October. The poor sales come after reports that the actor's estranged wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, filed for divorce to end their nearly three-decade-long marriage. The filing, which occurred in late May, had been a long time coming, as the two had publicly announced in 2023 that they had decided to separate to focus on individual growth. While the exact details of the divorce filing remain unknown, sources at the time claimed it was uncontested, as the duo had resolved everything prior to Furness making the move. It was also reported that the Australian actress found the settlement satisfactory. "A settlement was reached that Deborra is pleased with, which includes a handsome spousal support payment," a source told the Daily Mail about the former couple. "There was some back and forth regarding this financial agreement, but in the end, [Deborra] got what she believed she deserved. Both are coming out of this financially secure," they added. Despite the seemingly amicable nature of the divorce, Furness eventually broke her silence in a way that appeared to shift the blame for the failed marriage onto Jackman. The actress shared a cryptic statement about traversing the "traumatic journey of betrayal" and how it is a "profound wound that cuts deep." "It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values, and boundaries is liberation and freedom," she added. Elsewhere in the statement, Furness claimed that "one thing" she has learned is that "none of this is personal and that we are all on "our individual journeys." "I believe that the relationships in our lives are not random," she further remarked. "We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognize and heal the broken parts of ourselves…I remain grateful." Following Furness' statement, a source close to Jackman claimed that the actor was "extremely disappointed" by the remarks. The insider also claimed that the Broadway star has "an unwritten understanding that she would not trash him to the press," which her statement seemingly broke. Amid the split, rumors have also circulated that Furness has been "flooded" with numerous "tempting book offers" since she and the Hollywood star first announced their separation in 2023, per the Daily Mail. While it's unclear what direction the book would take, it's believed that Furness would be expected to reveal "the truth about what it was like behind closed doors with Hugh." However, for now, such a memoir seems unlikely, as the Australian actress reportedly isn't interested in revealing personal details about her failed marriage and the "Wolverine" star. "So far she's keeping mum," an insider shared. "She doesn't need the money as she's been very well taken care of in the divorce."

Anthony Ramos claims Madonna was on her iPad ‘the whole time' during Hamilton performance

Anthony Ramos says he once caught Madonna distracted on her iPad throughout the 'whole' production of Hamilton. The Broadway star, 33, originated the lead roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony-winning musical in 2015. On Thursday's episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Ramos was asked who the 'most terrifying celebrity [was] to spot in the audience' during his 15-month run. After taking a brief moment to think, he named Madonna, who he said had an 'iPad in her face.' 'She was like this the whole time,' he recalled, mimicking the pop icon looking down at an iPad in her lap. 'I was like, 'Damn, shawty. If you're not enjoying it that much, you know the door's right there. You ain't gotta stay here!'' Ramos laughed. The Independent has contacted Madonna's representative for comment. Ramos, who rose to fame with his dual portrayal of Laurens and Hamilton on Broadway, recently reunited with his former Hamilton castmates, including Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Christopher Jackson, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Leslie Odom, Jr., Okieriete Onaodowan, and Phillipa Soo, at the 2025 Tony Awards. In celebration of the hit musical's tenth anniversary, they performed a medley of songs from the soundtrack, including 'Non-Stop,' 'My Shot,' 'History Has Its Eyes on You,' and 'The Room Where It Happens.' Ramos wasn't given a main part in the performance, leading to confusion among viewers. Hamilton, which opened on Broadway in 2015, received a record-breaking 16 nominations at the 70th Tony Awards and ultimately won 11 awards, including Best Musical. Following his time on Hamilton, Ramos went on to lead Miranda's 2021 film adaptation of his other hit musical, In the Heights. The singer and actor has since continued releasing his own music and starring in movies like 2024's Twisters and Spike Lee's newest crime-thriller, Highest 2 Lowest. According to IMDb, Ramos will star in six upcoming projects, including thriller-drama House of Dynamite, out October 24, as well as the big-screen adaptation of popular children's series Bob the Builder. He will portray the titular Bob in the Jennifer Lopez-produced movie.

'I'm like, 'If you not enjoying it that much, you know the door's right there. You ain't got to stay here.'' The Post reached out to a rep for Madonna for comment. Lin-Manuel Miranda — who starred as Alexander Hamilton and also wrote the book and music — tweeted about the incident at the time. WireImage Despite not sharing the person's name, rumors circulated that Madonna was the culprit. The Grammy winner's publicist denied the accusations, stating: 'It's not true. 'Madonna had already made a generous donation.' 8 Madonna performs onstage during 'The Celebration Tour' at Copacabana beach on May 4, 2024. The 'Spring Awakening' star, 40, expressed, 'You couldn't miss it from the stage. It was a black void of the audience in front of us and her face there perfectly lit by the light of her iPhone through three-quarters of the show.' The 'Vogue' artist is no stranger to Broadway, having starred in the play 'Speed-the-Plow' by David Mamet play in 1988. Then, in 1996, Madonna portrayed Eva Perón in the film adaptation of 'Evita.' While on 'Watch What Happens Live' in 2017, a viewer asked LuPone, 'Did you and Madonna ever have a conversation about your two iconic performances as Evita?' 'No,' she responded. 'But she was downstairs at the Mitzi Newhouse when I was upstairs doing 'Anything Goes' in the Vivian Beaumont, and a press agent actually put a sign up that there was only one diva allowed in this theater at a time. It wasn't me! It was the press agent that did it. I don't know whether she ever found out about it. I did meet her after her opening night party, and the only thing that Madonna has ever said to me was, 'I'm taller than you.' Bada-bing!' 8 Madonna is seen attending Lempicka show on Broadway on May 18, 2024 in New York City. GC Images 'What did you think of her role in 'Evita'?' Cohen, 57, asked. 'I was on the treadmill. You know when MTV used to have music videos, right? I saw, I believe it was 'Buenos Aires,' and I thought it was a piece of s–t,' LuPone admitted. 'Madonna is a movie killer. She's dead behind the eyes. She cannot act her way out of a paper bag. She should not be in film or on stage. She's a wonderful performer for what she does, but she's not an actress. Bing!'
