'I can't stop laughing after hearing my new neighbour's unfortunate name'
A woman shared her new neighbour's unusual name and admits she can't help but laugh every time she thinks about it - and says it makes her wonder why her parents chose it A woman has been left in hysterics after learning her new neighbour's name - and now struggles to keep a straight face every time she sees her. She explained how she recently moved into a new housing complex and was added to the building's WhatsApp group, which is used for general updates. She said: "The community head runs ours like a local mayor, with formal intros, house numbers, the whole thing. This morning, a new family joined. The head did his usual spiel: welcomed them, dropped the house number, and then casually mentioned the wife's name." But she couldn't help but laugh when she read her name to be Candida. She said: "Candida. I paused, re-read it, yup, Candida, Like the yeast. Didn't know whether to laugh or Google 'does she know?'" Candida, a genus of yeasts, is the most common cause of fungal infections worldwide - and not something she ever expected to hear as a person's name. She added: "It's not totally unheard of here for people to be named after scientific terms. We've got girls named Oryza Sativa (that's rice, if you skipped biology), so maybe this isn't that weird by local standards. "Still. Imagine going through life sharing a name with a yeast infection. I hope she never has to fill out a form at a gynaecologist." Commenting on her post, one user said: "It's really sad because the name is pretty and predates the classification of the yeast." Another user added: "There was a song in the 70s by Tony Orlando and Dawn titled 'Candida'. It was the name of a girl (fictional) the song was about." A third user said: "I went to college with a girl named Candida. It's definitely a Latin culture name." One more user added: "In my country it's a granny name. Not that common anymore, but it exists and it's not even that bad, it has a nice meaning. Unfortunately, the first thing that comes to mind is the infection, so yeah, it sucks." A final user said: "I used to work with a woman named Candi. Not a typical name found in Australia. "She told me no one has ever guessed her name. I thought Candice but she said no. Then I got a horrified looking my face and said da, and she slightly nodded. "The guy we were standing with missed what I said, so her secret remained with me. "Oddly enough at the same workplace I ended up working with a guy called Joseph. He would never answer to Joe, only Joseph. "Typically worker surnames weren't known, so when I eventually found out his surname was King, I understood his insistence of only answering to Joseph."
