Create Account Mitch Marner isn't the problem. The Maple Leafs have made the playoffs nine years in a row. Many teams have not. Yes, they suck in the playoffs but only one team can win. Does it really matter if you lose in the first round or the third round? If you lose, you lose. Marner's 100 points will be tough to replace. This issue was and to some degree still is the mess created by Kyle Dubas with too much money for too many for too many years. This was under the watchful eye of Brendan Shanahan, no doubt. It's synonymous with politicians trying to spend their way out of a recession. Not. Some Leaf players don't want to break a fingernail when they go in the corners. And we all remember what Harold Ballard said about the Swedes. Leafs have needed a right-handed shot defenceman for at least 10 years and they miss the Gilmours, Clarks and Tuckers of the world. Too bad Ryan Reaves can't skate better because the game is getting faster every year. But Leafs are and will be better with Marner than without. Bill Jamieson Toronto (Marner was one of those big contracts you speak of and a major under-performer when it counted most in the playoffs) PAY FOR THE PARADE Re 'Pride sponsorship bucks dry up, leaving shortfall' (The Canadian Press, June 15): Why do parades need to count on sponsors to foot the bill and taxpayers to cover the deficit? If you are enjoying a day at Canada's Wonderland or a Blue Jays game, you pay to participate, right? So, if you want to have a great day being at a parade, why not pay yourself? If everyone who joined and marched in a parade paid like $10, the parade would likely fund itself, right? The investigation, dubbed Project Bloodline, culminated on Monday with the arrests of the suspects, 55-year-old Daniel Stuckey and his son, 32-year-old Dylan. Daniel has been charged with 22 offences, including 11 counts of theft under $5,000 and seven counts of breach of probation. Dylan is facing 94 charges including 21 counts of failure to comply with a release order and 48 counts of theft under $5,000. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Additionally, Dylan was wanted on four outstanding warrants in Peel, Halton and Niagara. At the time of their arrest, both Dylan and Daniel were already charged with numerous offences and were also subject to multiple probation orders. Read More Both were held for bail hearings. CIRT was established in May 2022 as a pilot in 22 Division to increase public engagement and have a visible police presence in communities. 'Our goal with community safety and wellbeing has always been to eliminate crime before it harms our communities and use practices that decrease re-offenses. With Project Bloodline, we have done exactly that,' Peel Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said in a news release. Create Account Earlier this week, dozens of charges were laid against three youths — aged 15, 16, and 17, and all on bail for previous weapons charges — following the seizure of high-powered firearms as part of an attempted vehicle stop in Etobicoke. 'It's outrageous that young people or adults that have firearms (charges) are released on bail,' said Toronto Police Supt. Ron Taverner in an interview with the Toronto Sun on Friday. 'We're talking about public safety. These people are already facing charges. They should be some kind of stricter bail conditions. It's about being held accountable. And when we look at this particular case, we have three young people that are already out on bail that obviously aren't abiding by the bail conditions that they have so what does that say about the system? It says it's not working.' Your noon-hour look at what's happening in Toronto and beyond. By signing up you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
