Bonalu festivities: Thousands throng Golkonda Fort
Hyderabad: The Golkonda Fort premises presented a vibrant and crowded scene on the first Sunday of the Ashada Masam Bonalu Festival, as a multitude of men, women, the elderly, and children flocked to the Sri Jagadambika Mahankali Temple to seek blessings. From the early hours of Sunday, women were seen carrying 'Bonam' on their heads. Devotees were also observed preparing and sharing meals with their loved ones after offering their prayers to the goddesses. A major highlight at the Fort was the sight of Shivasattulu and Potharajus dancing energetically to the tunes of teenmar bands, captivating the crowds. While women in traditional saris carried Bonam in the morning, the entry of the Potharajus and Shivasattulu in the afternoon drew an even more massive crowd. Devotees from various parts of the city brought 'Tottelu' to offer to the goddesses, often in grand processions led by Potharajus. As per tradition, the Kummari Sangham was given the honour of offering the first Bonam. The police faced a challenging time managing the large crowd entering the Fort on this inaugural Sunday. The water board provided drinking water packets to the devotees, ensuring their comfort. The puja on the first Sunday of the State festival concluded with great fanfare, and the festivities at the Fort will continue for the next three weeks before moving to other temples across the city. The next significant dates for the Bonalu festival include the celebrations at Golkonda on 6 July, followed by festivities at the Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad on 13 July, with the Rangam procession on the following Monday. In the Old City, Bonalu will be held on 20 July, followed by Rangam and a large, colourful procession. A week before the final Bonalu in the Old City, members of the famous Ummidi Devalayala Uregimpu Committee will take out their Ghatam procession on 13 July. Meanwhile, the Kalyanotsavam of Sri Balkampet Yellamma will be held on 1 July adjacent to the temple, with the Ratholsavam procession scheduled for the following day, 2 July.

Bonalu festivities to kick off in city from Golkonda Fort today
Hyderabad: The state festival of Ashada Masam Bonalu is set to commence in the city from Thursday, with the first Bonum offered to Jagadambika Ammavaru at the temple nestled within the historic Golkonda Fort. The month-long festival will begin on the first Thursday of Ashada Masam Amavasya and conclude with the final puja of the Goddess on Amavasya, July 24. Following the inaugural ceremony at the Jagadamma Mahankali (Yellamma Talli) temple in Golkonda Fort, nine pujas will be held every Thursday and Sunday. During these, devotees will devoutly offer Bonam to the Goddess. The festivities will kick off with a grand procession of the Tottelu, commencing from Langar Houz Cross Roads and making its way to the Golkonda Fort Temple. This vibrant procession will feature Potarajus dancing to the energetic beats of teenmar bands, showcasing Telangana's rich cultural and folk traditions. At 12 noon, a Rath Yatra will proceed from the priest's house in Chhota Bazar, carrying the festival idol of the goddess along with the Tottelu to the Golkonda Fort temple. This procession will be accompanied by band music, cultural tableaux, and Potraju's dance, while Bonam will be brought for the goddess from Banjara Darwaza. Ministers will also offer silk clothes to Ammavaru on behalf of the government. Following the commencement of Bonalu, the second puja of the goddess will take place on Sunday 29 June, the third on Thursday 3 July, the fourth on Sunday 6 July, the fifth on Thursday 10 July, and the sixth puja (Lashkar Bonalu Jatara) on Sunday 13 July at Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad. On 14 July, the temple authorities will conduct Rangam and a procession. On the same day, the Shri Mahankali Jatara Bonalu Utsavala Ummidi Devalayala Uregimpu Committee from Old City will organise a Ghatam procession. On Sunday 20 July, Bonalu will be held in Old City, followed by Rangam on Monday 21 July. A large procession will mark the culmination of the festival on Monday 21 July, after Rangam at 3 pm, led by the Haribavalli Akkanna Madanna Sri Mahankali Temple of the Old City. The government has allocated Rs 20 crore for the temples and assured the provision of all necessary infrastructure for the festival.

Bonalu festivities to kick off with gaiety from Golconda on June 26
Hyderabad: The month-long Ashada Masam Bonalu festival, which is celebrated with pomp and gaiety, will be starting in the city from June 26 with Maru Bonum to Jagadambika Temple located at the historical Golkonda Fort. Even this time, the festival will start on the first Thursday of Ashada Masam on June 26 and will conclude with the last Puja of the Goddess on the day of Amavasya on July 24. The temple priest Sarvesh Pantulu said that after the commencement of Bonalu festival at Jagadamma Mahankali (Yellamma Talli) temple located in the historic Golconda Fort, nine pujas of the Goddess will be held every Thursday and Sunday in which devotees will offer Bonam to the Goddess with devotion. He said that on the first Puja on June 26, a huge procession of the Goddess's Tottelu will be taken out from Langar Houz cross roads to the Golconda Fort temple with Potaraju, showcasing the cultural and folk traditions of Telangana. Sarvesh said that at 12 noon, the Rath Yatra will be taken out from the priest's house in Chhota Bazar with the festival idol of the goddess along with the goddess' Tottelu to the temple located in Golconda Fort amidst band music and cultural tableaux and Potraju's dance, while Bonam will be brought for the goddess from Banjara Darwaza. He said that after the start of Bonalu, the second puja of the goddess will be on Sunday, June 29, the third puja on Thursday, July 3, the fourth puja on Sunday, July 6, the fifth puja on Thursday, July 10, the sixth puja (Lashkar Bonalu Jatara) on Sunday, July 13 at Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple at Secunderabad. On July 14, the temple authorities would take out Rangam and procession. On the same day Shri Mahankali Jatara Bonalu Utsavala Ummidi Devalayala Uregimpu Committee from Old City would take out Ghatam procession. On Sunday, July 20, the Bonalu will be held in Old City followed by Rangam on Monday July 21. The priest informed that on all these Thursdays and Sundays, devotees of the goddess will offer Bonam to the goddess in large numbers with devotion. He informed that a new temple committee has been formed by the State government with the objective of celebrating the Bonalu festival with grandeur in a peaceful and harmonious environment and to provide the best facilities to the devotees. A big procession will be taken out on Monday, July 21, after Rangam at 3 pm headed by Haribavalli Akkanna Madanna Sri Mahankali Temple of Old City ending the festival.
