India joins international support campaign for Bangladesh after air force jet crashed in Dhaka

The Government of India on Tuesday (July 22, 2025) reached out to Bangladesh offering assistance to deal with the aftermath of the tragic crash of an aircraft from the Bangladesh Air Force that led to the death of at least 20 students and teachers and injury for more than a hundred others in a school in capital Dhaka. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs announced that a team of doctors will be visiting Bangladesh soon. 'A team of burn-specialist doctors and nurses with necessary medical support are scheduled to visit Dhaka shortly to treat the victims. They will make an assessment of the condition of patients with recommendation for further treatment and specialized care in India as necessary. Additional medical teams may also follow depending on their preliminary assessement and treatment,' said the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement on Tuesday. The crash took place on Monday (July 21, 2025) when a Chinese-made aircraft crashed in the school where students and teachers were getting ready for the day ahead. Subsequently, India, China and Japan were among the first countries to offer support to Bangladesh. Foreign Affairs Adviser of the interim government, Touhid Hossein said, 'As of now, we require doctors, nurse, some special medicines, and some emergency medicine equipment – Accordingly we will seek assistance from these three countries.'
