The 28-year-old took a hiatus to focus on his health after he struggled with Tourette's Syndrome during his last performance at Glastonbury in 2023. In May, Capaldi performed on stage for the first time in two years at a charity gig in Edinburgh to raise funds for suicide prevention. After this, speculation grew that Capaldi was the secret performer scheduled for Glastonbury, with mysterious billboards being linked to a rumoured new single. He told the crowd he wanted 'to come and finish what I couldn't finish last time', before leading the crowd through classics, Before You Go, Grace, Hold Me While You Wait, Bruises, Forget Me, and a first live showing of Survive. On Monday, Capaldi announced a slate of new dates for his upcoming tour, including shows in Glasgow and Aberdeen. In a post shared on X, he said: 'About time I got back to work… hope to see you out there.' Rob Wicks, managing director at P&J Live, said: '15,000 fans will remember Lewis Capaldi's last gig at P&J Live in January 2023, when he equalled the Scottish indoor standing crowd record held by Gerry Cinnamon. 'Two years on, I'm sure his fans will all agree we've been desperate to see him back on stage doing what he does best, and we know he'll sound better than ever. Lewis Capaldi pictured partying with Loose Women star and pals at Glastonbury
Lewis posed for the camera with Denise Welch and her friends at the iconic festival. Lewis Capaldi was spotted at Glastonbury posing up a storm with Loose Women star Denise Welch and her pals. The Scots singer played a surprise set at the Somerset festival on Friday afternoon. His appearance delighted fans at Worthy Farm after he had taken an 'extended break' from the music business two years ago. In 2023, whilst on stage at the festival, Lewis was visibly struggling with his Tourette's Syndrome to the point fans had to finish his songs for him. But on Friday Lewis surprised crowds as the TBA act and told them: 'The last three years haven't been the best for me. It's been a difficult time. This has been my f***ing goal, to get back here doing this.' He added: 'The second time's a charm. I've really really missed doing this over the last few years. As I say, it's been difficult at times to think that this maybe wouldn't ever happen again. "Genuinely from the bottom of my heart, it means the f***ing world.' And following his incredible performance it seemed Lewis stuck around to see the rest of the acts of the evening which included headliners The 1975. The band's frontman is Matty Healy, who just happens to be the son of Loose Women star Denise Welch. And it seems Denise and her pals pulled Lewis aside for a snap which was then later posted on Instagram. Ahead of Lewis' surprise set which has delighted fans all over the world, he released his brand new song, Survive, which is already sitting at number 1 in the charts. The emotional song, which charts his battle with anxiety and Tourette's, marks another successful comeback by the singer. The song has become the nation's biggest selling track of the week with Someone You Loved also tipped by the Official Charts Company to re-enter the Top 20. Survive had been described by 28-year old Lewis's team as 'a bold and brave new anthem that underscores a challenging period in his career that ended at Glastonbury 2023 when the Pyramid Stage crowd helped carry an emotional Capaldi over the finish line.' In it, he sings, 'I swear to God I'll survive, if it kills me to, I'm gonna' get up and try, if it's the last thing I'll do.' The worldwide success and adulation took its toll and he stayed out of the limelight before playing the Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage to one of the weekend's biggest crowds. He fought back the tears several times during the show at the Worthy Farm site and was met with a deafening roar having taken the stage. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! A secret Glastonbury performer is soaring to number 1 just days after an emotional return at the festival. During a weekend which sparked controversy elsewhere on Worthy Farm, Lewis Capaldi made a triumphant return which left fans stunned for all the right reasons. The 28-year-old singer made his comeback on Friday as he was unveiled as a secret performer on the Pyramid Stage two years after stepping away from public life to focus on his mental health. Lewis performed at Worthy Farm in 2023 but was unable to finish a song as he struggled with his Tourette's Syndrome. On Friday, he dropped new single Survive out of nowhere, and took to the iconic Pyramid Stage at 4.55pm Last night, the Official Chars Company revealed Lewis' song is on track to become his sixth Number 1 single. It's said to be leading by over 3,000 chart units just 48 hours since its release. Meanwhile, Someone You Loved – his first number one – could rise back into the charts at number 44, two years after the crowd took over after he was unable to finish singing the track. Lewis Capaldi releases new music amid speculation of Glastonbury set
The 28-year-old last performed at Glastonbury in 2023 before taking a break citing anxiety and announced on New Year's Eve the same year that he planned to take a hiatus to focus on his health. He has released a new song titled Survive and alongside a video montage, with the song playing, he wrote on Instagram: 'It's been a while…'. Last month, he performed on stage for the first time in two years at a charity gig in Edinburgh to raise funds for suicide prevention. Capaldi, from Bathgate, West Lothian, has Tourette's Syndrome and released his first album in 2019, with a second album following in 2023. On New Year's Eve in 2023, Capaldi said in a lengthy Instagram post that he would 'continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself' following the announcement he would take a break from touring after struggling with his voice during his Glastonbury Festival set earlier in the year. Capaldi explored how the pressures of fame have affected him mentally and physically in the Netflix documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now which was released in April 2023. His critically-acclaimed 2019 debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent emerged as the biggest-selling UK album of both 2019 and 2020. His hit songs include 2019's Someone You Loved, 2020's Before You Go and 2022's Forget Me. This year's Glastonbury line-up features a number of acts listed as TBA, with a Friday slot on the Pyramid Stage at 4.55pm speculated as one Capaldi could perform in, but this has not been confirmed. Also among the music stars rumoured to be performing a secret set at Glastonbury is New Zealand singer Lorde, whose fourth studio album, Virgin, has just been released.

Festival goers were also pictured waving signs at the site carrying a picture of the star wearing sunglasses with the words: "Celebrity lookalike contest - Pyramid Stage 16:45 - Absolutely zero cash prize." Last night, Lewis posted for the first time this year with a snippet to his new song. In the tune, Lewis references his mental health challenges and feelings of self-doubt and despair. He sings: 'How long 'til it feels like I'm more than a spoke in a wheel? 'Most nights I fear that I'm not enough. I've had my share of Monday mornings when I can't get up. But when hope is lost and I come undone, I swear to God I'll survive. If it kills me to, I'm gonna get up and try, if it's the last thing I do. 'I've still got something to give. Though it hurts sometimes, I'm gonna get up and live. Until the day that I die.' The Bruises hitmaker took time off in the lead-up to the festival in 2023 to focus on his mental health and told fans on stage he would likely be taking another extended break following the performance. He said: "Look I'm really sorry before we go any further, because this is a pain in the arse," he said. "You've all come out and I'm apologising that my voice is f***ing packing in. Glastonbury I'm really sorry. I'm a bit annoyed with myself here. I wanted to come back and do Glastonbury because it's so incredible and I just want to thank you all for coming out. "I was shit scared but you really made me feel at ease. I'm really sorry. I hope they will let me back on even though it's been a sh**show. "I feel like I'll be taking another break over the next few weeks so you probably won't see me for the rest of the year. But when I do come back and I do see you I hope you're up for watching."
