Foundation stone laid for drinking water supply project for Kamalapur near Hampi
Vijayanagara MLA H.R. Gaviappa on Friday laid the foundation stone for a major drinking water supply project under the Union government's AMRUT 2.0 scheme on the premises of the water supply center near Valmiki Circle in Kamalapur near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi in Vijyanagara district.
Speaking to reporters on the occasion, the MLA stated that the project aims to provide a permanent solution to drinking water issues in the town.
'The project will include the construction of feeder main pipelines, a 10-lakh liter capacity overhead water storage tank, a 6,199-km water distribution network and individual tap connections to approximately 6,000 households. Additionally, the existing 4.54 MLD (million liters per day) water purification plant will be upgraded. The entire project is being taken up at a cost of ₹26.17 crore,' the MLA said and emphasized that contractors have been instructed to ensure high-quality work throughout the execution of the project.
On the same occasion, two new garbage collection vehicles and one earthmover machine were handed over to the Kamalapur Town Municipal Office.
Present at the foundation-laying ceremony were vice-president of the Town Municipal Council Gopalakrishna, council member Mukhtiyar Bhasha, nominated members Kaneshwara and Somashekar, Chief Officer D.B. Eranna and community leader Khaja Hussain.
