Ex-Rangers star John Lundstram ‘holds talks over shock move to second-tier European club where ex-Ibrox teammate plays'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FORMER Rangers star John Lundstram's time at Trabzonspor looks to be coming to an end. But the chance to remain in Turkey could have been there for the midfielder, it's been claimed. After a slow start to life at the club, he established himself as a key man in the side. But Turkish Super Lig clubs are limited to the number of foreign players they're allowed in their squad and Trabzonspor have been looking to move on some of their current overseas stars this transfer window. Lundstram's name was earmarked at the beginning of the summer as one of those who could be moved on to free up a space, as well as former Rangers teammate Borna Barisic who has endured a horror time of things at the club. Then came the dramatic development over the last couple of days that Lundstram had LEFT Trabzonspor's pre-season training camp. Turkish reports suggested he had done so in order to TERMINATE his contract. Lundstram now looks set for a move to Hull City. A move to the Tiger could only happen if Lundstram was a free agent as the English Championship club are currently under a transfer embargo. While Hull are still allowed to register players, they are NOT allowed to pay a transfer fee for any new recruits. The club also look set to add another Trabzonspor player, Enis Destan, to their squad in the coming days. Local journalist Serhat Kantoglu claims that Lundstram held talks with second tier outfit Esenler Erokspor. The club, who have ambitions to make it to the Super Lig, already have one former Rangers star in their ranks. They snapped-up Ryan Jack last year and he's gone on to become a key man in their midfield. Lundstram had caused a stir earlier this month by following the club on Instagram, leading to plenty of fans speculating that he could be about to join the club. While that new report claims talks were held, Hull certainly still appears to be Lundstram's destination. Rangers, meanwhile, are closing in on the signing of Mikey Moore from Tottenham. Ex-Rangers star John Lundstram ‘leaves Trabzonspor training camp to TERMINATE contract'
IT'S only a year since John Lundstram swapped Rangers for Trabzonspor. But it looks very much like he's moving on, again according to shock reports out of Turkey. 2 John Lundstram's time at Trabzonspor could be coming to an end Credit: Getty 2 Lundstram played for Rangers between 2021 and 2024 Credit: Willie Vass Lundstram, 31, spent three years with Rangers between 2021 and 2024. He established himself as a fans' favourite during his debut season as he helped inspire the Gers to the Europa League Final - scoring the goal that got them there by beating RB Leipzig. The midfielder moved on last summer at the end of his contract. Both Lundstram and teammate Borna Barisic were snapped-up by Turkish giants Trabzonspor. But it looks like his Turkish adventure could be over after just one season. That's because shock reports out of the country claim Lundstram is about to TERMINATE his contract. The former Sheffield United ace signed a three-year when he joined Trabzon last year. There had been previous murmurs that Lundstram's time with the club could be coming to an end. Turkish Super Lig clubs are only permitted to have a certain number of overseas players in their squads and Lundstram had been previously namechecked as one foreign player who could be moved on to make way for new recruits this summer. Now, several reports out of Turkey are claiming that Lundstram has left Trabzonspor's pre-season training camp - in order to TERMINATE his deal. Rangers transfer special assesses whether Conor Coady deal is OFF, if Hamza Igamane will leave and when the Gers can expect more incomings It's been reported by several outlets, including Karadeniz de Sonnokta and Fanatik, that Lundstram left the camp early before its conclusion on Sunday. It's been claimed further that he's doing so to bring his time at the club to an end in order to join Hull City. To join Hull, Lundstram would HAVE to be a free agent. That's because the English Championship club are currently under a signing embargo that does not allow them to pay a fee to sign any players. A contract termination would free up Lundstram to be able to join Hull. The Fanaktik report states that he left the camp in order to hold talks with the English club. Lundstram came through the youth ranks at Everton but failed to make a senior appearance for the Toffees. He had loan spells at six different clubs before joining Oxford United permanently in 2015. The midfielder moved on to Sheffield United two days later and proved a key player during the Blades' stint in the Premier League between 2019 and 2021. He then joined Rangers on a free transfer following United's relegation and headed for Turkey last summer. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Trabzonspor Close in on Benjamin Bouchouari
Trabzonspor are edging closer to signing Moroccan midfielder Benjamin Bouchouari from AS Saint-Étienne, with negotiations between the two clubs reportedly advancing. According to Foot Mercato, ASSE received a $3 million bid earlier this week for the 23-year-old, which was swiftly turned down. The French club are said to be holding out for around $5 million. Turkish journalist Safa Can Konuksever claimed: 'Trabzonspor's latest offer reaches $3.5 million, including bonuses. The difference is now around $1 million. An agreement could be reached by the end of the week.' Bouchouari, who joined Les Verts from Dutch side Roda in August 2022 for $1.1 million, has one year remaining on his contract. He has not featured in any of Saint-Étienne's pre-season fixtures since the squad returned to training. The midfielder has played 96 matches for ASSE, 70 of them as a starter. Despite flashes of potential, he has struggled to establish himself in the side and deliver consistent performances fully. According to Kuzey Ekspres , both clubs are 'close to an agreement' and discussions are continuing. The Turkish side, who finished seventh in the Süper Lig last season, appear confident of landing the player. Transfermarkt currently values Bouchouari at $5 million. A move would allow ASSE to recoup a decent profit on the Moroccan midfielder, who was brought in shortly after the club's relegation to Ligue 2. With just a year left on his deal and limited progress in talks for a contract extension, Bouchouari's exit looks increasingly likely. 'Saint-Étienne will have to make a decision quickly,' one French football source said. 'They can't afford to lose him for free next summer.' As it stands, Trabzonspor remain the frontrunners, but Girona have also shown interest. The final outcome could depend on how far the Turkish club are willing to go financially.
