MIRI (June 29): Fifteen motorcycles were seized and a total of 55 summonses were issued for various traffic offences during the 'Op Samseng Jalanan' operation held at Jalan Bandaraya Miri, Jalan Marina Utama and Jalan Miri-Bypass from 10pm last night until 3am this morning. Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation was carried out by a team from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri), comprising one senior police officer and seven personnel. 'During the operation, a total of 17 vehicles were inspected. Out of that number, 15 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 after they were found to have been modified from their original structure and for further inspection. 'Throughout the operation, 15 individuals were also checked, and a total of 55 summonses under PDRM (K) 257 were issued for various traffic offences,' he said in a statement today. Mohd Farhan said this operation will continue to be carried out from time to time. He advised road users, especially motorcyclists, to always drive or ride responsibly and cautiously on the road, refrain from participating in illegal street racing, avoid modifying the original structure of vehicles, and not gather at roadsides causing traffic congestion and noise disturbance to public peace. SHAH ALAM: Police are investigating an incident where seven cars parked near the Glenmarie Light Rail Transit (LRT) station were damaged, allegedly by a passing heavy vehicle. District police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that the incident occurred around 2.10 pm yesterday. The affected motorists had parked their vehicles along the roadside before boarding the LRT for work. Upon their return, they discovered varying degrees of damage to their cars. 'As of 4 pm this afternoon (Thursday), the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of the Shah Alam police headquarters has received seven police reports related to the incident,' he said in a statement. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the responsible party. The case is being probed under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959. KULAI: Police are investigating a case where a bus driver reportedly drove recklessly on the emergency lane and made an obscene hand gesture after being honked at by another motorist. A viral video of the incident shows the bus speeding on the emergency lane before suddenly cutting into the right lane. The motorist who captured the footage honked at the bus driver, prompting the latter to respond with a rude hand gesture. Kulai district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said an investigation was launched after police received a report about the viral video at 3.42pm yesterday. However, he said neither the video owner nor the bus driver has come forward or filed a report. He said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Kulai district police headquarters received the report regarding the video. "The incident is believed to have occurred at Km35.5 of the North-South Expressway heading north," he said last night. Tan called on the bus driver, the person who recorded the video and witnesses with information to contact investigating officer Inspector Mohamad Firdaus Mustaffa at 011-2608 1008 or visit the Kulai district police headquarters' Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

NIBONG TEBAL: Police have detained an elderly woman for driving a car in the motorcycle lane on the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge (JSAHMS) here yesterday. Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) Police Chief Supt Jay January Siowou said preliminary police investigations found that the incident occurred at Kilometre 8.6 of JSAHMS from Batu Kawan heading towards Batu Maung, at around 1.30 pm. 'Acting on information, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the SPS District Police Headquarters (IPD) managed to identify the 70-year-old female driver and brought her to the SPS IPD for further action. 'The police have also opened an investigation paper for driving in a prohibited lane, and further investigation is underway,' he said in a statement today. Members of the public with additional information on the incident are urged to contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the SPS IPD at 04-5858222 to assist with the investigation. Earlier, a six-second video went viral on social media showing the woman driving a Proton X50 in the motorcycle lane on the bridge.
