‘Severance' star Tramell Tillman earns historic nomination
The post 'Severance' star Tramell Tillman earns historic nomination appeared first on ClutchPoints. Jackson State University alum and 'Severance' star Tramell Tillman has been nominated for an Emmy Award. Tillman is nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category. If he wins, he will be the first Black actor to win in this category. Tillman portrays the stern and occasionally humorous Mr. Milchick in the Apple TV+ original series. He becomes a manager at the intriguing and dangerous Lumon Industries, which permits workers to split their brains, keeping their personal and professional memories and lives entirely apart, by implementing a novel and innovative practice known as severance. Earlier this year, 'Severance' paid homage to HBCU culture in its Season 2 finale. During the season, Tillman was contacted by the executive producer and director of the show regarding the marching band scene. Tillman said he used this scene to connect to his background as a two-time HBCU attendee. He studied pre-med at Xavier University of Louisiana prior to graduating from Jackson State. In an interview with TV Guide, Tillman discussed his time at Jackson State with the marching band. 'And the second [marching band performance] is a big nod to HBCU bands. I graduated from an HBCU, Jackson State University, and their band is the Sonic Boom of the South, the best marching band in the entire world. When I was a student at Jackson State University, I would marvel at the Boom, especially the agility and the endurance of the majorettes and the drum majors and the band as a whole. So this was my opportunity to live the fantasy of being a drum major at Jackson State University.' Tillman earned a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Jackson State in 2008. Years later, he graduated from the University of Tennessee with an MFA in acting. He spent more than ten years working in the charity sector before deciding to pursue acting full-time. Before securing his breakthrough role on 'Severance' in 2022, Tillman featured in a number of films, television series, and theatrical performances. This year, 'Severance' has 27 nominations in the Emmy awards. ‘Severance' leads Television Critics Association Awards nominations with 5
Severance is very much in(nie) with the Television Critics Association. The Apple TV+ drama topped Wednesday's 41st TCA Awards nominations with five nominations haul includes Program of the Year, drama series, and triple bids in Individual Achievement in Drama for Adam Scott, Britt Lower, and Tramell shows are tied with four nominations apiece: Adolescence, Hacks, The Pitt, and The Studio. All four plus Severance will compete in Program of the Year alongside Andor, The Rehearsal, and The White year, TCA dropped down to six slots per category after expanding to eight in 2021, but it has now reverted to eight. No reason was given for last year's or this year's was also unprecedented double-dipping last year by three shows — Baby Reindeer, Ripley, and Fargo — which were nominated in both drama and limited. There is no such case this drama series, Severance faces Andor, Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire, Industry, The Last of Us, Matlock, The Pitt, and The White Lotus. After scoring five bids for its first season in 2023, The Last of Us only nabbed one nomination for its sophomore Achievement in Drama has nine nominees. Scott, Lower, and Tillman will duke it out against Jacob Anderson (Interview With the Vampire), Kathy Bates (Matlock), Owen Cooper (Adolescence), Stephen Graham (Adolescence), Diego Luna (Andor), and Noah Wyle (The Pitt). There are only two women in the lineup, which stacks the odds against the category to crown its 10th consecutive female winner. Last year, Anna Sawai (Shōgun) prevailed. The last male champ was Jon Hamm (Mad Men) in is the fourth show to earn three Individual Achievement in Drama nominations in the same year after The Practice in 1999, The West Wing in 2000, and Succession in 2023. The Practice's and The West Wing's triple plays are arguably more impressive as they occurred in fields of five (Succession's was also in a field of nine). Of these, only The Practice notched a win, for David E. Kelley in a tie with James Gandolfini (The Sopranos). Gandolfini also triumphed in 2000. Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul) won in 2023, becoming the first supporting player to win the comedy, Hacks will go for back-to-back series victories against 2022 winner Abbott Elementary, English Teacher, Nobody Wants This, The Rehearsal, Shrinking, Somebody Somewhere, The Studio, and What We Do in the its drama counterpart, Individual Achievement in Comedy also has nine nominees. Jean Smart (Hacks) will aim for a record third win in the category. For the first time, her co-star Hannah Einbinder is nominated alongside her. The other nominees are Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), Bridget Everett (Somebody Somewhere), Nathan Fielder (The Rehearsal), Harrison Ford (Shrinking), Janelle James (Abbott Elementary), Seth Rogen (The Studio), and Michelle Williams (Dying for Sex).Williams could make TCA Awards history as the first person to win both individual achievement categories. She took home the drama honor in 2019 for her eventual Emmy-winning turn on Fosse/ Bear, which received five and four nominations, respectively, the past two years, only received the sole bid for Coló limited series/TV movie/specials race features Adolescence, Agatha All Along, Disclaimer, Dying for Sex, The Penguin, Rebel Ridge, Say Nothing, and Sirens.A new rule this year stipulates that only ongoing shows are eligible for the new program category. The nominees are Common Side Effects, English Teacher, Matlock, Nobody Wants This, North of North, Paradise, The Pitt, and The and recipients of the Career Achievement and Heritage Awards will be announced later this summer. Mission Impossible X Reviews: Tom Cruise's MI swansong is as impressive as the press tour led fans to believe
Tom Cruise is back doing what he does best — running through chaos, dangling from impossible heights, and trying to save the world one explosive stunt at a time. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning marks the eighth and final entry in the beloved action series, and with its global theatrical release last week, fans and critics alike are weighing in on whether this swan song sticks the landing. From the get-go, the film delivers everything you expect from a Mission: Impossible movie: secret identities, exotic locales, and a driving score that never lets up. But while many fans are calling it a spectacular finale, others feel the movie is weighed down by its own ambition. On social media platform X, one user raved: '#MissionImpossible the Final Reckoning is ONE OF THE BEST ACTION MOVIES & PEAK of Tom Cruise's action career. The sum of all his stunt work have lead to this. Biplane stunt is the BEST STUNT I'VE EVER SEEN. A 3 hour CINEMATIC FEAST for movie fans & LOVE LETTER TO THE FRANCHISE!!!' Another chimed in with a more specific moment of appreciation: 'I will say despite all my issues with Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning there's a line reading by Tramell Tillman that made me impulsively start clapping out of how perfect it was.' Another comment read, 'MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - THE FINAL RECKONING is exhilarating, suspenseful, and features some truly breathtaking sequences; the submarine one is right up there for best of the year. This one is definitely for the fans and your mission is to see it on the biggest screen possible!' However, the praise isn't universal. Some early viewers pointed to pacing issues and a story that didn't quite hit the emotional or narrative highs of earlier entries. 'I liked Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, didn't love it. Strange editing choices, feels like things set up or established in the last one don't fully pay off, uneven pacing, but man when the movie is working, there's nothing else like it. The last half is fu**ing insane,' said one. Another claimed, 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is too long & overstuffed to the point it's boring at times. They drip fed the audience especially at the start. Lazy storytelling & questionable editing in places. The action of the final act is spectacular but it was too late.' Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and co-written with Erik Jendresen, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is the follow-up to 2023's Dead Reckoning Part One. It features the return of Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt alongside franchise regulars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett. The story picks up the escalating threat from a rogue AI system known as the Entity and follows Hunt as he grapples with loyalty, trust, and the weight of his past decisions. The Final Reckoning might not be the flawless goodbye some hoped for, but there's no denying its ambition or the sheer scale of its action. For many fans, it's a fitting tribute to an era of practical stunts and old-school espionage thrills. For others, it's a film that needed tighter editing and a more focused story. What did you think about the movie?

Tramell Tillman's journey from "Severance" to facing off with Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning"
Actor Tramell Tillman, known for his role in the award-winning series "Severance," makes his action franchise debut in "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning," playing Captain Bledsoe, commander of a stealth U.S. submarine. Director Christopher McQuarrie specifically sought out Tillman for the role after becoming a fan of his work on "Severance." "He reached out and said that, you know, there's a role in it for you," Tillman said. "I mean, it was kind of bizarre. I didn't know exactly what he wanted." When McQuarrie shifted the conversation from "Severance" to the Mission: Impossible project, Tillman had to make a practical decision. "I did have to check my schedule, that was not a lie," Tillman said." "But as soon as I hung up with Christopher McQuarrie, I called my team and said, we have to figure this out." Internally, Tillman said he was thrilled. "It's like, yes, it's finally happening," he said. Critics have taken notice of Tillman's performance, with reviews calling him "the real standout" who "steals every scene." Working alongside Tom Cruise presented unique challenges. "I had to compete with a shirtless, wet Tom Cruise," Tillman joked. "He does not skip a day in the gym. So I had to make sure I was on my up game." Tillman also praised Cruise as a collaborator. "So Tom is so generous as a scene partner. He really cares about the work. He is committed to the craft, and he cares about the crew. He gives people the space to learn and to have the resources they need to tell the story." How Tillman became an actor Tillman's path to Hollywood wasn't conventional. He initially studied to become an orthopedic surgeon at Xavier University before switching careers after his freshman year. "I was in chem lab and I was bored to tears," Tillman recalled. "I said, you know, I wanna follow my dream. I wanna do the thing that lights me up." That dream was acting, which began for Tillman at age 10 in church plays. As for the surreal nature of his current success, Tillman remains grounded. "It doesn't feel real," he said. "I'm kind of waiting for the shoe to drop a little bit, but I'm really honored and doing my best to take it all in, day by day." "Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning" is distributed by Paramount Pictures, which is part of CBS' parent company, Paramount Global. The film hits theaters on Friday, May 23.
