Karkoubi : The «poor man's drug» smuggled from Morocco spreads in Andalusia

The growing spread of «Karkoubi», a drug smuggled from Morocco that combines hashish with clonazepam—a powerful benzodiazepine—has put authorities in Andalusia on high alert. In this context, police in Algeciras arrested a 46-year-old woman in possession of 169 pills, 12 forged prescriptions, stolen identity documents, and other prohibited medications. According to Spanish media, officers found psychiatric drugs such as Rivotril and Trankimazin—both commonly sold on the black market—further fueling the region's rising drug trade. Spanish police have launched awareness campaigns on social media to warn about the dangers of Karkoubi, which has become widespread due to its low cost and easy availability. Authorities stress that it poses a growing threat, particularly among vulnerable populations, earning it the nickname «the poor man's drug».

Family Caught Smuggling Over 64,000 Pills at Tangier Port

Rabat – Police at the Tangier City Port successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle 64,080 drug pills late on Sunday night. They arrested three suspects, a couple and their son, aged between 22 and 54, for their suspected involvement in an international drug trafficking network. According to a security source, the suspects were detained as soon as they arrived on a ferry from a European port. Authorities searched their vehicle and found 64,080 drug pills hidden inside. These included 50,880 Rivotril pills and 13,200 Trankimazin pills. The suspects have been placed under investigation by the Tangier police, under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office. Authorities aim to uncover more details about this case and identify any other people involved in the drug network. The operation is part of DGSN's ongoing efforts to fight international drug trafficking and prevent the spread of illegal substances. Last Friday, police in Tetouan arrested two suspects, aged 21 and 32, attempting to smuggle 12,000 pills. The operation took place thanks to precise intelligence from the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST). Police caught the two suspects in a small car with the pills and a sum of money believed to be proceeds from their illegal activities. Earlier last week, Morocco's DGST assisted Spain in another instance with a major drug bust by contributing intelligence that led to the seizure of over two tons of cannabis. The operation was carried out by Spain's Civil Guard in Tenerife Island, where authorities arrested six suspects. Tags: Drug bustdrug traffickingTangier Port
