Saudi Arabia begins $186 mn Jeddah logistics corridor project

Saudi Arabia has launched a major infrastructure initiative with the foundation-laying of a new logistics corridor connecting Jeddah Islamic Port to the Al-Khomra Logistics Zone. Saudi Arabia has begun work on a SAR689 million (~$186 million) logistics corridor linking Jeddah Islamic Port to Al-Khomra Logistics Zone. Inaugurated by Minister Saleh Al-Jasser, the 17-km, four-lane route with 12 bridges aims to boost port efficiency by 10 per cent, ease congestion, and support multimodal transport and investment growth. The project was inaugurated by Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and chairman of the General Ports Authority (Mawani), Saleh Al-Jasser, in a ceremony attended by senior transport and logistics leaders, including Mawani chairman eng Sulaiman Al-Mazroua, as per Saudi Press Agency. Valued at over SAR689 million (~$186.03 million), the project includes the construction of a 17-kilometre dedicated logistics lane for trucks, featuring two lanes in each direction and 12 bridges. This corridor will directly link the port to the logistics zone, bypassing Jeddah's internal road network and easing traffic congestion. Equipped with emergency exits, maintenance access, and rainwater drainage systems, the corridor is set to unlock new investment opportunities and streamline container movement for logistics firms, exporters, importers, and shipping lines. 'This direct logistics corridor will significantly enhance operational efficiency, increase the port's handling capacity by 10 per cent, and support the integration of various transportation modes. It will also play a key role in optimising supply chain operations and improving overall infrastructure,' said Saleh Al-Jasser. Fibre2Fashion News Desk (HU)
