Dave Bautista to Star in Rom-Com "The Romantic" for Paramount

Yara Sameh Paramount Pictures has acquired rights to "The Romantic", a romantic comedy spec from Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, with Dave Bautista attached to star. "The Romantic" is centered around bestselling romance author Francine London, who has a secret: she's a six-foot-four mountain of a man named Ed Schwenke. When Ed's identity comes under scrutiny, he hires a wildcard of a woman to pose as Francine at a romance fiction convention, while evading a cynical female journalist, who hates romance even more than she hates liars. Maximum Effort will produce under its first-look deal with the studio, alongside Bautista's Dogbone Entertainment. No director is attached at present. Bautista has spoken for years about his desire to star in a rom-com. In a 2023 interview with Page Six , he said, 'I know I'm not your typical rom-com lead. I'm a little rough around the edges. But I always, you know, I look in the mirror and I say, I ask myself, 'Am I that unattractive? Is there something that unappealing about me that excludes me from these parts?''. The Dune and Guardians of the Galaxy star added that while he's 'never had an offer to do a rom-com,' he had 'high hopes' about checking this off his bucket list and would 'keep searching' until he found the right opportunity. Currently weighing an offer for a role in "Road House 2" at Amazon MGM, Bautista will next be seen starring in the Aura Entertainment actioner "Trap House", as well as the Amazon MGM buddy cop action comedy "The Wrecking Crew" opposite Jason Momoa, both of which are produced by his Dogbone Entertainment Banner. Recently seen starring opposite Pamela Anderson in the critically acclaimed drama "The Last Showgirl", he also has the Zellner Brothers' alien invasion comedy "Alpha Gang" coming up. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Dave Bautista's Dogbone Entertainment & Titan1Studios Ready ‘Cat Assassin' Universe

Dave Bautista's Dogbone Entertainment is chasing a Cat Assassin. The Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune actor's company has partnered with Canada's Titan1Studios to develop Steve Lerner's Cat Assassin into a franchise spanning animated series, video games and publishing initiatives. More from Deadline U.S. Buyer Aura Entertainment Makes Dave Bautista Action Movie 'Trap House' First Release, Plans Theatrical Launch In November - Cannes Market Heist Series 'Sideshow' In Works From 'The 100' Actor Sachin Sahel & 'Escaping Denver' Co-Creator Brady Roberts CM Punk Talks The Highs & Lows Of Reaching A Milestone At WrestleMania, Ideas For "Dream" Rom-Com With Dave Bautista Lerner is the writer behind the lucrative video game property Stray, which had made an estimated $200M in revenue, and Xbox One Pass release Twelve Minutes, which had a voice cast including James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley and Willem Dafoe. Annapurna Interactive published both. Bautista will have creative input into the franchise through Dogbone. Cat Assassin is set in a gritty neo-noir world inhabited by anthropomorphized cats and centers on Hugh, a highly skilled assassin caught between various cartels and power brokers in a dark and twisted city. Producers say it 'promises a unique blend of humor, action, and stealth.' Titan1Studios is already 'well underway' with a stealth action video game inspired by the immersive gameplay of Assassin's Creed, the tactical espionage of Splinter Cell, the immersive feline agility of Stray and the fluid combat of Sifu. The tone of the game will 'set the tone for the expansive universe that will soon follow.' Further details on the animated series, feature film, publishing partners and more video game titles will follow 'in coming months.' Dogbone, established in 2022, was set up as a full-service TV and film producer. It recently wrapped on Prime Video's Eternal City and Lionsgate's The Killer's Game and is working on upcoming Amazon feature Wrecking Crew. Titan1Studios has bases in Calgary and Toronto has a slate including an animated adaptation of the Zomben comic series, produced with The Last Airbender studio Rideback Entertainment, and investigative drama series Sandcastle with Lionsgate Canada. 'It's been a pleasure collaborating with Titan1Studios on Cat Assassin,' said Bautista. 'Their ability to build worlds through animation has been so impressive and they've created a truly unique world in this game that I can't wait to share with players.' 'We are incredibly excited to partner with Dave Bautista and Dogbone Entertainment on Cat Assassin,' added Rathan Moorthy, President & CEO of Titan1Studios. 'Dave's journey from a formidable WWE superstar to a highly respected Hollywood actor is a powerful testament to his acting ability and dedication to his craft. We are absolutely thrilled to have him as part of this franchise. This partnership, combined with Steve Lerner's incredible storytelling, highlights the immense potential of the Cat Assassin world.' Lerner said: 'Bringing the world of Cat Assassin to life in so many forms, from games to comics and of course TV, is a dream come true.'
