2025 Jacksonville Jaguars' roster preview: RB Tank Bigsby

With offseason programs now behind us, we will be getting a jump start on our training camp preview by going player-by-player through the Jacksonville Jaguars' 91-man roster. Going alphabetically, up is running back Tank Bigsby. Tank Bigsby's profile Height: 5-11 Weight: 215 NFL experience: 2 seasons Age: 22 College: Auburn No. 4 2024 Snap count totals Offense: 351 Special teams: 46 2024 PFF grades Offense: 68.1 Special teams: 48.1 2024 Season Review In his second NFL season, Bigsby took on a much larger role on offense, carrying the ball 168 times in 2024, compared to just 50 carries as a rookie. Bigsby averaged 4.6 yards per rush and scored seven touchdowns. Those 4.6 yards per carry that Bigsby averaged were tied for the 13th-most among running backs. He was one of the more difficult ball carriers to bring down as well, ranking third in average yards after contact and 13th in missed tackles forced, despite being 28th in carries. This all resulted in big plays for Bigsby, who was 11th in PFF's breakaway rate, which measures how often a back had a rush of 15 or more yards. On the flip side of all that, fumbles were an issue at times, with Bigsby losing three of them last season. Looking ahead to the 2025 season What the playing time and general workload will look like for Bigsby—as well as Travis Etienne and Bhayshul Tuten—within Liam Coen's offense remains to be seen. That will be one of the more intriguing training camp battles to take place this summer. However, this new-look Jaguars offense should lead to improved efficiency from the running back position. For one, GM James Gladstone has reshaped the offensive line unit with six new additions between free agency and the NFL draft. This has created a lot of competition, which hopefully results in better play up front. In addition to that, the multiplicity element that Coen wants prevalent throughout the offense can help keep defenses off balance and guessing by throwing a variety of looks at them, which can create opportunities for the skill position players to take advantage of. A strong running game is a key component to Coen's offense, not to mention that having a reliable rushing attack keeps the offense ahead of the sticks and out of predictable passing situations. How Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie RB LeQuint Allen can carve out a role in 2025

Our NFL Wire editors recently selected one "surprise" rookie from each of our respective teams who could make some noise in 2025 and develop into an impact player sooner rather than later. For the Jacksonville Jaguars, my pick was running back LeQuint Allen. With Travis Etienne, Tank Bigsby, and Bhayshul Tuten, Allen finds himself in a crowded running back room, but he has the ability with his skill set to carve out a specific role as a pass-catching back--an important role in Liam Coen's offense. Allen joins the Jaguars with ample pass-catching experience from his time at Syracuse, which includes being targeted 78 times during the 2024 season alone. Along with the targets, Allen has experience lining up in the slot and had plays that were drawn up for him as an early read in order to get him the ball. Having a pass-catching presence out of the backfield was a staple of the Tampa Bay offense last season, with Coen calling the plays. Both Rachaad White and Bucky Irving would rank in the top 10 among running backs in total targets last season. However, another key part of this equation for running backs is that if you're going to be on the field during passing situations, you have to hold up in pass protection as well. This is one area in particular that can come with a steep learning curve for most rookies. "LeQuint's been awesome," Trevor Lawrence said.. Pass protection, it seems like he really understands it. Great hands. Hard worker. I've been impressed with his attitude and how he carries himself." Big question facing Travis Etienne, Bhayshul Tuten, Jaguars RBs in training camp

The Jacksonville Jaguars' rookies will report for training camp on July 19th, the veterans on July 22nd, and the first practice will take place on July 23rd. So with training camp almost here, we will be taking a position-by-position look at the Jaguars' roster, specifically examining the one big question that faces each unit. Up next are the running backs. If you missed our quarterbacks preview, you can find it here. How does the playing time shake out at running back for the Jaguars? In what has quickly become a crowded running back room this offseason, with draft picks Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen joining Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby, this will be one of the more intriguing positional battles to watch this summer. The running game is a staple within Liam Coen's offense. For one, a strong running game keeps the offense ahead of the sticks and out of predictable passing situations, which then can open up opportunities in the passing game. In addition to that, this is a scheme where the running and passing concepts go hand-in-hand and are married together, building off of each other throughout a game and even week-to-week. "Obviously there's going to be a lot of changes in verbiage and terminology and all those things and the system is different," Trevor Lawrence said early in the offseason. "But I think the run game and how it's built off of that and I think just his knowledge on how to set up the run game with play-action, screens, and then obviously mixing in dropbacks and shots downfield. "I think the plan there I'm really excited about how he's going to set it up and how we're going to game plan it." It's also going to be important that the running back position has a presence in the passing game as well. Last season in Tampa Bay, running backs Rachaad White and Bucky Irving both ranked top 10 among backs in targets. Under Coen, an emphasis has been on finding ways to get Etienne the ball in space, which is where he's been at his best in his career. Etienne is coming off a 2024 season where he rushed for only 558 yards at 3.7 yards per attempt. "He's been getting me a lot in space," Etienne said, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN. "I love me one-on-one with anybody and just being able to make that first man miss and being able to get the extra yards. I feel like Liam has a great knack for getting the players the ball. It's more so players than plays with Liam and he has a great feel for the game." Bigsby was one of the better backs at generating big plays, according to PFF's metrics, but he has put the ball on the ground. Tuten brings big-play abilities of his own to the backfield with 4.32 speed. However, he had fumbling issues of his own in college and is navigating the learning curve that comes with making the jump to the NFL level. As of now, we can assume that all three of these backs will be a part of the equation on offense, but again, how that shakes out exactly is unknown at this time. When it comes to Allen, he could carve out a role in the passing game, where he has ample experience from his time at Syracuse. But the roster math is also going to be a part of that equation. Not to say that the Jaguars can't keep four running backs, but going heavy at one position means going light at another. "LeQuint's been awesome," Lawrence said.. Pass protection, it seems like he really understands it. Great hands. Hard worker. I've been impressed with his attitude and how he carries himself." Clemson football: All-time rushing leaders in Tigers history entering 2025 season

The Clemson Tigers have had an abundance of elite running backs throughout the course of their rich football history. Some of those have gone on to star in the NFL and hold a place in the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame. There are household names like national champion Travis Etienne and Clemson Hall of Famer C.J. Spiller, now the Tigers' running backs coach under Dabo Swinney. Heading into 2025, could Clemson have its next great running back already on the roster? Four-star freshman tailback Gideon Davidson from Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Virginia, drew high praise from Swinney and others in spring camp. National outlets like CBS Sports have named Davidson as the team's biggest X-factor entering the season. With only six Saturdays remaining until the Tigers open the 2025 college football season against LSU at Memorial Stadium in a nationally televised game (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC), Clemson Wire is taking a look at the top 10 rushing leaders in Clemson history. 10. What Liam Coen is prioritizing with Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne

Head coach Liam Coen has already made one noticeable change to help Jacksonville Jaguars' running back Travis Etienne bounce back this upcoming season. As Etienne described during Jaguars' minicamp, Coen has prioritized getting him out in space. Advertisement "He's been getting me a lot in space," Etienne said, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN. "I love me one-on-one with anybody and just being able to make that first man miss and being able to get the extra yards. I feel like Liam has a great knack for getting the players the ball. It's more so players than plays with Liam and he has a great feel for the game." Out in space is where Etienne is at his best. However, as DiRocco also noted, Etienne's usage in that regard has dwindled over the last two seasons. In 2022, 25.4% of Etienne's rush attempts came outside the tackles, and he averaged 8.3 yards per rush, according to DiRocco and ESPN. But in 2023, only 23.2% of his carries were outside the tackles, and then just 21.3% last season. Etienne's rushing efficiency overall has dipped in the previous two seasons, and his overall production declined in a big way in 2024, with him totaling just 558 rushing yards with fewer opportunities. Advertisement Fewer carries outside the tackle box isn't the sole reason for Etienne's recent production, but that hasn't helped things either. In order to get the most out of players, coaches have to regularly put them in situations to maximize their skill sets. Coen very much seems to be doing that with Etienne. And it's not only in getting him on the edge as a ball carrier, but in this new-look offense, where the running backs will have to contribute to the passing game, Coen is finding other ways to get Etienne the ball. "Every day, everything we've asked him to do, he's done at a good click for us," said Coen." The ability in the screen game, to hand him jet sweeps, his vision so far in the run game has been good. He's done everything we've asked him to do and more. There's been a consistency." This article originally appeared on Jaguars Wire: How Liam Coen is utilizing Jaguars RB Travis Etienne differently
