Baffled fans call Chelsea ‘small club' after admin's bizarre post following Club World Cup win

BAFFLED football fans branded Chelsea a "small club" for appearing to hold a grudge over a social media post. The Blues lifted the Club World Cup on Sunday after smashing Paris Saint-Germain 3-0. After the win, Flamengo, who brutally trolled Chelsea after they beat them 3-1 earlier in the Club World Cup, put up a message to congratulate their rivals on a well-earned victory. The Brazilian club's post read: "Congratulations, Chelsea, deserved Champions." However, Chelsea's social media admin had not forgotten the savage dig the South American side had aimed at them just weeks before. At the time Flamengo had said: "Easy win against London Blue!" This is a reference to the Stamford Bridge outfit's name on the Pro Evolution Soccer video games series, which did not have the licence to name Premier League teams under Japanese publisher, Konami. And after seeing Flamengo call them by their proper name, they could not resist a sarcastic dig back at them. Trevoh Chalobah was loving the response, and said: "COOKED," with an added crying emoji. Some fans weren't impressed with the move, with one fan saying: "Small club. Can't even take a compliment." A second said: "Tbf. They just wished you congratulations." Others were loving the s***housery on display. One fan said: "i love this admin so much." A second said: "Cook admin! Cook." Another said: "My club." A fourth added: "I love you."

2025 FIFA Club World Cup Team of the Tournament

Following the conclusion of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, we've put together our Team of the Tournament from the summer's action. Goalkeeper: Robert Sanchez – Chelsea Robert Sanchez has had his critics at Chelsea but a strong summer should ensure he keeps the number one shirt at Stamford Bridge. Sanchez claimed the Golden Glove award and was outstanding in the final win over Paris Saint-Germain, preventing 1.66 xG. Right-back: Achraf Hakimi – Paris Saint-Germain The finest full-back in world football right now, Hakimi continued on from his stellar Champions League campaign with some trademark all-action performances. He scored twice and provide two assists for runners-up PSG. Advertisement Centre-back: Trevoh Chalobah – Chelsea From outcast to central cog at Chelsea. Trevoh Chalobah remains a hugely underrated part of Enzo Maresca's squad and had a tournament to remember in the knockout rounds. He had the highest pass completion at the tournament, and was dribbled past just once at the Club World Cup. It's been a remarkable 12 months for the defender. Centre-back: Thiago Silva – Fluminense Fluminense were the surprise package of the tournament to reach the semi-finals. Thiago Silva provided evergreen class in central defence, with the 40-year-old marshalling the Brazilian side to the final four. Class is indeed permanent. Left-back: Nuno Mendes – Paris Saint-Germain A tough final should not overshadow what was a good tournament for PSG's flying full-back. Up and down, all game, every game. The Portugal international is a force. Advertisement Midfield: Moisés Caicedo – Chelsea Chelsea's Player of the Year was important as ever in the US, bringing the bite and tenacity to Enzo Maresca's midfield. Combining intelligent decision-making with dynamism, he was at the centre of Chelsea's success. Midfield: Vitinha – Paris Saint-Germain The conductor of the Paris Saint-Germain side. Vitinha's mix of energy and tempo-setting distribution is the centrepiece of Luis Enrique's side. That Chelsea were able to disrupt his rhythm was a key part in deciding the final. Midfield: Cole Palmer – Chelsea Cole Palmer was named Player of the Tournament with a man-of-the-match final performance helping him earn the crown. Advertisement Two brilliant goals and an assist did the damage against PSG, as the 22-year-old enhanced his reputation as a player for the big occasion. His ability to toy with the best club side in world football right now was remarkable. Right-wing: Jhon Arias – Fluminense Expect European clubs to push for Jhon Arias this summer. The 27-year-old was a livewire during Fluminense's run to the semi-finals, with darting runs and adventurous dribbling tormenting opposition sides. A pleasure to watch. Left-wing: Pedro Neto – Chelsea Pedro Neto managed just four goals during a mixed first Premier League season with Chelsea, but netted three in just six games at the Club World Cup. Advertisement Adding end product to his electric pace, he was a key part of the Chelsea attack. The Portugal international put in superb defensive shift in the final win over PSG, helping to nullify the threat of Achraf Hakimi. Forward: Gonzalo García – Real Madrid One of the breakout stars of the tournament, Gonzalo Garcia earned a share of the Golden Boot after scoring four goals. The Spaniard had never started a game for Real Madrid before the tournament but has now catapulted himself into Xabi Alonso's plans for the upcoming season. Reported plans to sign an out-and-out forward are likely to be shelved. Revealed: Referee explains why Fluminense had penalty overturned by VAR during Club World Cup semi-final against Chelsea

The referee of Chelsea 's Club World Cup semi-final clash against Fluminese revealed why he opted not to give a penalty to the Brazilian side during Tuesday's match. French official Francois Letexier explained his decision as he was mic'd up for the crowd to listen in during the encounter at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Letexier, 36, initially gave Fluminense a spot-kick in the 37th minute after adjudging Trevoh Chalobah to have handled the ball inside the penalty area. But he then overturned his decision on advice from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and restarted the contest with a drop ball. Explaining his decision, Letexier said: 'After video review, the handball committed [Chalobah] saw his hand in a natural position, meaning the offence is not punishable [with the awarding of a penalty kick]'. It proved to be a pivotal moment in the match, denying Fluminense the chance to level proceedings from the spot after Joao Pedro opened the scoring on his debut for Enzo Maresca 's side. The Brazilian striker, who joined Chelsea from Brighton for £60million, doubled his goal tally for his new side shortly before the hour mark. That earnt Chelsea a place in Sunday's final, which will see them come up against PSG or Real Madrid, who face one another on Wednesday. Fans wanting to watch Chelsea's clash against Fluminense could do so for less than the price of a beer at MetLife Stadium. Prices for standard admission to the match were slashed to just $13.40 (£10.50) on Saturday, a fraction of the $473.90 (£373) that fans were being asked to pay less than three days earlier. The price cuts, which were first reported by The Athletic, mean supporters could pay less for a ticket than for a pint of beer at MetLife, where a cold one can set you back $14 (£11). The dramatic price drop came as FIFA has battles to avoid swathes of empty seats at the Club World Cup. The tournament, being held for the first time in its new 32-team format, has seen fluctuating crowds, with some group games witnessing tens of thousands of empty seats despite heavy promotion. MetLife has already hosted five matches at this summer's tournament with widely varying attendances. While 76,611 fans packed in to watch Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund on Saturday other fixtures have struggled to draw similar crowds. There have been numerous attendances below 40,000 - including 35,179 (Palmeiras vs Al Ahly), 39,893 (Porto vs Al Ahly), 34,736 (Fluminense vs Dortmund) and 29,321 (Fluminense vs Ulsan). To boost attendances, FIFA has employed a dynamic pricing model, resulting in ticket prices swinging wildly in the build-up to matches. Prices for Chelsea's clash with Fluminense initially remained high but tumbled sharply over the weekend, while tickets in the lower ring — typically among the most expensive — also dropped to around $44.60 (£35) for the game. The pricing strategy has left some early buyers frustrated, with fans who purchased tickets at the original high prices now seeing seats available for as little as three per cent of what they paid.

Chelsea face being BANNED from playing Delap, Joao Pedro and Gittens in the Champions League after £27m fine

CHELSEA could be banned from fielding Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and other summer signings in next season's Champions League. The Blues have already splashed out more than £160m on Delap, Pedro, Brazilian youngster Willian Estevao and more arrivals, with Jamie Gittens also joining today from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £52m. 3 3 3 But if Chelsea are unable to balance the books by selling or loaning out players in the remainder of the window, the terms of their Uefa punishment for breaking financial rules will prevent them registering them all for the Champions League. That is why homegrown defender Trevoh Chalobah is very likely to be sold this summer. Yet even a £40m fee for Chalobah would not be enough to cover the costs of all the new recruits. Uefa last week fined Chelsea a total of £27m, with a potential £52m more to come, for breaching regulations on football earnings and squad cost controls. As part of the settlement, the Blues also accepted they could not add players to the 25-man A list for Uefa competitions without the annual cost of those players being covered by savings from removing existing members of the list. The annual cost of a player is calculated by adding his wages to the amortisation value of his transfer fee. For example Delap has joined Chelsea from Ipswich for a fee of £30m on a six-year contract. But Uefa regulations say clubs have to calculate the amortisation over a five-year period. Therefore, the amortisation cost of Delap next season will be £30m divided by five - £6m. If the striker is on wages of £100,000 a week, that is £5.2m a year, making the total Delap cost £11.2m. Chelsea CONFIRM transfer of Jamie Gittens as £52m Borussia Dortmund star becomes seventh addition of the summer Should Chelsea want just him to play in the Champions League, they would have to find more than £11.2m in savings from players they wanted to take off the list. The value of an outgoing player is calculated by adding their wages to any profit on their sale. That is why Chalobah is particularly vulnerable to being sold. As a product of the Chelsea academy, his value on the books is zero so any fee received would be pure profit. That was the case when Chelsea sold Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher in the last two summers. A £40m fee for Chalobah, plus the saving in wages, would cover the costs related to Delap, £60m signing Joao Pedro and some others - but not all incomings this summer. If Chelsea wanted to sell a player like goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, however, the maths is different. Sanchez arrived from Brighton for £25m two years ago. Amortisation for each of those two years is £5m (£25m divided by 5) making a cost of £10m. Sanchez's value on the books is now £15m (£25m minus the £10m amortisation) so Chelsea would need to sell him for more than that to bank a profit, on top of the saving in wages. Of the 25 players on Chelsea's A list for the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League, the only big earner to leave so far is on-loan Jadon Sancho. The Blues are believed to have paid half of Sancho's £300,000 per week wages from his Manchester United contract - £150,000 a week.. Chelsea paid £5m to get out of an obligation to buy the winger. Sancho's departure will save them £7.8m in wages, but it's still not enough to cover the likely £11.2m cost of Delap. Noni Madueke is now reported to have agreed personal terms with Arsenal, which would free up more funds for the Blues.
