Galway hold off Waterford second half comeback to book All-Ireland semi-final spot
TG4 All-Ireland Ladies SFC quarter-final: Galway 1-18 Waterford 1-12 Galway are through to a second successive TG4 All-Ireland senior semi-final following this six point victory over Waterford in Tuam Stadium on Saturday. A Kate Slevin first half penalty laid the platform for Daniel Moynihan's charges as they went nine points clear but Lauren McGregor's strike early in the second period breathed new life in the Deise challenge. Galway got off to the perfect start with Eva Noone pointing after 45 seconds. And the hosts followed that up with three more for Olivia Divilly, Ailbhe Davoren and a Slevin free. The Tribeswomen created their best chance when Chellene Trill blasted wide on 10 minutes. But Galway got their goal just two minutes later after Davoren fed Slevin. The Claregalway forward found Eva Noone who won a penalty which Slevin converted. Galway were 1-4 to 0-0 clear but Waterford nearly made a breakthrough when Chloe Fennell and Áine O'Neill were denied by a double save from keeper Dearbhla Gower and Bronagh Quinn. McGregor put the rebound over before Divilly restored Galway's seven point cushion. The sides shared the next four white flags before the break leaving it 1-7 to 0-3 at half-time. Galway maintained the momentum after the restart with Divilly adding two points. But McGregor and Bríd McMaugh reduced arrears to 1-9 to 0-5 on 34 minutes. Galway pulled 1-12 to 0-6 clear as Slevin (2) and Davoren tallied against McGregor's sole response. But the latter brought Waterford back to life when she struck her seventh goal of the championship after good play down the middle through Hannah Power and Aileen Wall. Waterford put Galway on the back foot as points for McMaugh (2) and McGregor left the Munster finalists just 1-14 to 1-9 behind. Eva Noone and Slevin got the Galway minors but two more added through Divilly and Slevin restored a seven point cushion on 51 minutes. After McGregor added a Waterford free, substitute Roisin Leonard landed two between the posts to effectively secure Galway's semi-final date with Dublin. Waterford finished with McMaugh and McGregor picking off points but it was just too late. Strong second half sees Galway defeat Tipperary
TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship: Galway 1-13 Tipperary 0-7 Connacht champions Galway began their TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship campaign with an impressive second quarter in Tuam Stadium to run out comfortable nine point victors over Tipperary. The Tribeswomen did the damage with 1-8 unanswered, including Leanne Coen's goal, to lead 1-10 to 0-1 at half-time but Tipperary put in a much improved second half display. Galway took the stiff wind at the start and opened on two minutes with Louise Ward slotting over. Olivia Divilly also got off the mark in the sixth minute. It wasn't one way traffic as Tipperary dropped a couple of balls towards Aishling Moloney. Caitlin Kennedy also struck low but off target. However, a free won by Ava Fennessy on 18 minutes led to Moloney converting a free. That was after a seven minute hold up when Galway attacker Shauna Hynes was injured. Her replacement was 2024 captain Ailbhe Davoren who also played a pivotal role. The key score was the goal on 22 minutes. Divilly, Nicola Ward and Davoren played a part before the latter passed across to the unmarked Coen who kicked to the net. And from there, the hosts proceeded to dominate. Kate Thompson, Divilly (2) and Davoren made it 1-6 to 0-1 as Tipperary struggled with kick outs. That being said, they did drop three dangerous balls towards the opposing square but keeper Dearbhla Gower showed good hands. At the other end, Galway added four more white flags starting with Divilly that could have been a goal. Kate Slevin added two points either side of Davoren's second. Slevin tallied straight after the restart but Galway only managed three scores during the period. Slevin got the second on 43 minutes before Divilly struck her fifth in injury time. Tipperary will take from solace from their second half effort, though an injury to Kennedy will be a concern. Moloney delivered five points, three from play, while Emma Morrissey punched the air after slotting one over from the right. Moloney also twice went for goal, once hitting the crossbar. But Galway's first half display was enough to take the win before heading to Donegal in seven days. Scorers for Galway: O Divilly (0-5, 1f); K Slevin (0-4, 2f); L Coen (1-0); A Davoren (0-2); L Ward, K Thompson (0-1 each). Scorers for Tipperary: A Moloney (0-6, 3f); E Morrissey (0-1). GALWAY: D Gower; B Quinn, S Ní Loingsigh, K Geraghty; H Noone, N Ward, C Trill; L Ward, S Divilly; L Coen, S Hynes, K Thompson; E Noone, O Divilly, K Slevin. TIPPERARY: L Fitzpatrick; N Martin, L Spillane, E Cronin; I Carr, M Curley, S English; AR Kennedy, C Kennedy; L Morrissey, A Ryan, A O'Shea; A McGuigan, A Moloney, A Fennessy. Disappointment for Mayo as Galway win 19th Connacht title
Galway 0-16 Mayo 1-4 GALWAY ARE the TG4 Connacht SFC champions for the 19th time after successfully retaining their crown in Castlebar on Sunday. An early six-point lead spearheaded by Róisín Leonard and Olivia Divilly provided a lead they never surrendered, despite Sinead Walsh converting a Mayo penalty in the second half. Galway had the stiff wind in the first half, but Mayo kept things tight in defence. The Tribeswomen eventually broke through when Leonard converted a free after 11 minutes. They doubled that advantage two minutes later when Divilly punished a defensive mistake. The defending champions continued through a Leonard double, the second a skilful moment with the outside of her boot after taking Lynsey Noone's pass. Advertisement Divilly and Leonard brought Galway's total to six before Mayo started finding space at the other end. As the sun broke through the rain, Hannah Reape was fouled, allowing Walsh to open her account. The reprieve was short-lived as Divilly got her third but Mayo hit back with Erin Murray fisting over on 28 minutes. However, the last two scores went to the girls in maroon as Nicola Ward and Hannah Noone made it 0-9 to 0-2 at half-time. Even against the elements after the restart, Galway continued building their advantage as Leonard's free was followed by further points for Ward and Hannah Noone to put 10 between them on 40 minutes. Mayo had threatened just beforehand when Kathryn Sullivan hit the crossbar, but they got an opportunity before the three-quarter mark when substitute Clodagh Keane was pushed following Sullivan's delivery, leading to a penalty. Walsh slotted low past Dearbhla Gower for Mayo's goal, and they also came close again on 48 minutes when the Galway keeper's boot denied Keane. However, the Tribeswomen registered the next two white flags through Ailbhe Davoren and a Divilly free. A Walsh brace brought Mayo's deficit back to 0-14 to 1-4, but Galway's substitutes got the final say with Eva Noone and Shauna Hynes troubling the umpires.
