Qatar Charity holds silent humanitarian vigil to save civilians in Gaza
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Charity held a silent humanitarian solidarity vigil yesterday, in front of its headquarters in the Qatari capital, Doha. Several humanitarian organizations from around the world participated in this humanitarian action. This vigil was an urgent humanitarian call to save civilians in the Gaza Strip, especially children, women, and the elderly, who are facing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe under a stifling blockade and a systematic denial of humanitarian aid entry, leading to a worsening famine and a near-total collapse of basic services. Humanitarian action The silent stand took place in front of the Qatar Charity headquarters in Doha, with the participation of professionals in the humanitarian and legal fields. It also included volunteers and staff, all standing in symbolic silence wearing, in a gesture of solidarity with the people of Gaza and mourning the loss of innocent lives. Objectives Participants in the stand emphasized the urgent need for the immediate entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza without conditions or restrictions, to protect civilians, especially the most vulnerable children. They also called for the protection of relief workers and medical personnel operating in the field. This movement served as a reminder to the international community of its responsibility toward the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, which has become a tragic reality that cannot be ignored. Shared hashtag In conjunction with the stand, a digital campaign was launched across social media platforms under the shared hashtag: #Gaza_Is_Dying_of_Hunger The campaign involved activists, influencers, journalists, and public figures who collectively called for breaking the blockade and saving innocent lives. Catastrophic situation More than 600,000 children and over one million women and elderly people live in Gaza, which occupies less than 1.4% of the total area of historic Palestine. They endure tragic and inhumane conditions due to the ongoing siege, which has severely restricted access to essential resources, leading to acute food insecurity and widespread malnutrition among children.

QC launches Quran Literacy Project in Bangladesh
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Charity (QC) has launched its pioneering Quran Literacy Project in Bangladesh, aimed at empowering children with reading difficulties by equipping them with essential skills to recite, memorise and comprehend the Holy Quran. The project forms part of QC's wider Al-Furqan Quranic Literacy Programme, which not only focuses on Quranic education but also promotes the moral, psychological and social development of its beneficiaries. The initiative is delivered through simplified, engaging, and inclusive educational content, reinforcing QC's commitment to supporting marginalised communities through both spiritual and educational development. The project was inaugurated at two of QC's flagship social welfare centres—Markaz Muhammad Bin Ajaj Al-Kubaisi Center and the Sakhaa Center—with over 600 sponsored children in attendance. The launch ceremony was vibrant and participatory, featuring Quran recitations, theatrical performances, and cultural competitions. These activities reflected the programme's inclusive and celebratory approach to learning, while fostering a sense of community and purpose among participants. Speaking at the event, Dr Mohammad Amin Hafez Omar, Country Director of QC's Bangladesh Branch, said, 'This initiative is more than a literacy campaign—it is a transformative journey. Teaching the Holy Quran is not just about words and rules; it is about building balanced individuals equipped with values, self-respect, and purpose. Through this programme, we enable our beneficiaries to connect with the divine message and open the door to a renewed sense of identity, dignity, and direction in life.' Monzurul Haque, a Quran teacher involved in the project, elaborated on the teaching methodology: 'We begin with foundational Arabic, helping students recognise letters and sounds, then gradually introduce Quranic verses along with their meanings. Our goal is not merely fluency, but deep understanding and spiritual reflection.' The students expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the initiative. Zakaria Dewan shared: 'I feel proud to be part of this programme. Learning the Quran properly has always been a dream for me. Now, I feel like I am doing something that gives me strength and brings me closer to my faith. Khadiza Begum added: 'This project makes me happy. I feel like I am learning something important for my life. It gives me hope that I can understand the Quran like my teachers.' Ataul Islam reflected: 'Learning the Quran in its original language is a dream I never thought possible. It makes me feel connected to my faith and my identity.' It is worth noting that Qatar Charity currently supports 5,082 students in Bangladesh through comprehensive financial assistance, aiming to ensure a brighter and more secure future for them.

Qatar Charity signs pact to promote sustainable development in Nigeria
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Charity and the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have signed a framework cooperation agreement that establishes a legal foundation for the continued operations of Qatar Charity as an international organization in Nigeria. The agreement ensures the provision of necessary facilities for the ongoing work of Qatar Charity's office and the implementation of its humanitarian and development projects across various sectors. The agreement was signed on behalf of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and on behalf of Qatar Charity by Chief Global Operation Officer at Qatar Charity, Nawaf Abdullah Al-Hammadi. The agreement outlines the commitment of both parties to closely collaborate in implementing humanitarian interventions, programmes, and development initiatives that respond to local needs. It includes support in areas such as health, education, information technology, water, institutional capacity building, and the empowerment of local social networks and charitable organisations, in coordination with Nigerian governmental bodies. It also ensures that Qatar Charity's office in Nigeria receives the support needed to effectively and efficiently carry out its humanitarian and development efforts. On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Nawaf Abdullah Al-Hammadi said: 'We are proud to continue our partnership with the Nigerian government. This agreement reflects our firm commitment to supporting sustainable development and humanitarian work in Nigeria. In the coming years, we aim to implement impactful and high-quality projects that make a real difference in people's lives. For his part, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu said: 'We are delighted to sign this agreement with Qatar Charity, which has demonstrated a genuine commitment to supporting humanitarian development efforts in Nigeria over the past years through a wide range of projects in health, education, water, relief, and community empowerment. We greatly value this leading and effective role, which has left a significant mark on the lives of thousands of Nigerian families.' It is worth noting that this agreement builds upon a previous cooperation agreement signed between Qatar Charity and the Nigerian government in 2022, which was valid for three years and concluded this year.

QC provides relief to flood-hit people
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Charity (QC) has launched an urgent humanitarian campaign to support communities affected by floods and torrential rains in several countries, reaffirming its commitment to mobilising public generosity in response to chronic and recurring natural disasters. The campaign also coincides with QC's ongoing efforts to aid families impacted by drought and floods in Somalia, Djibouti, and other nations. In a single year (2024), over 800,000 people were displaced by more than 150 climate-related disasters, while more than 50,000 individuals are currently in dire need of assistance. Recognising the devastating impact of such events, QC campaign focuses on delivering critical relief—including food, water, healthcare, and shelter—to affected populations across ten countries in Asia and Africa. QC has urged the people of Qatar to support the campaign and help improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable. Donations can be made via its website mobile app call centre (44290000), or through QC branches and collectors located in shopping As part of this campaign, QC, with the support of Qatari donors, has distributed emergency food aid to over 9,000 displaced individuals in camps around Mogadishu. The food baskets—sufficient for a month—were distributed to families facing severe humanitarian conditions in Daynile, one of the largest districts hosting displaced populations. This intervention aims to alleviate hunger exacerbated by prolonged drought, rising food prices, and instability. Falastin Ahmed, a long-term displaced resident, said: 'The generous hands of Qatar have always supported us during the most difficult times. This aid arrived just as our food was about to run out, and I had nothing left to feed my children.' In a related effort, Qatar Charity distributed 1,550 food parcels to some of the most vulnerable families displaced by natural disasters in Djibouti. The assistance reached approximately 9,500 people across four regions: Dikhil, Ali Sabieh, Arta, and the capital. These parcels included essential food items aimed at enhancing food security and improving the living conditions of affected households. The distributions were carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Solidarity and local authorities, and attended by Ibrahim Al-Janahi, Head of the Humanitarian Interventions Department at Qatar Charity. Al-Janahi stated: 'Qatar Charity plays a pivotal role in supporting disaster-affected populations through basic food assistance and sustainable relief programmes. Our work follows an integrated approach—assessing field needs, coordinating with local and international agencies, and ensuring fair and effective resource distribution.' Technical Advisor to the Minister of Social Affairs, Mahmoud Bellah, commended Qatar Charity's enduring presence in Djibouti and its vital contributions to food security and development projects across the country.

Hosted at Qatar Charity's headquarters in Doha, the meeting brought together representatives from relevant UN agencies, international NGOs, Syrian civil society organizations engaged in humanitarian and development work, UN implementing partners, donors, regional and global humanitarian networks, and independent experts. Some participants also joined the discussion remotely. Objectives of the roundtable The roundtable offered a platform for structured, inclusive dialogue among humanitarian actors in Syria. It aimed to provide a unified framework for sharing insights, strengthening coordination, identifying shared challenges, and exploring practical ways to improve the quality and effectiveness of humanitarian response. Key themes included the importance of strategic partnerships, particularly with international actors to foster a more cohesive and sustainable humanitarian approach. He noted that the event was taking place at a pivotal moment marked by significant shifts in the Syrian context, including the easing of restrictions that have hindered humanitarian operations. He emphasized that this roundtable presents a valuable opportunity to translate dialogue into practical steps redefining intervention priorities, empowering local actors, and fostering constructive contributions from all stakeholders to meet urgent needs and support long-term development. He also stressed that co-hosting this event with OCHA reflects Qatar Charity's ongoing commitment to strengthening regional and global coordination efforts and to supporting initiatives that uphold human dignity and prioritize people's needs and aspirations. Michel Saad, deputy director of the Operations and Advocacy Division at OCHA in New York, also welcomed participants and thanked Qatar Charity for hosting and co-organizing this important event. He provided an overview of the current phase of transferring humanitarian coordination to within Syria and emphasized the importance of empowering NGOs and Syrian civil society organizations to actively contribute to development efforts. He encouraged participants to focus on presenting actionable ideas to improve efficiency and integration going forward beyond merely reviewing past accomplishments. Nawaf Abdullah Al-Hammadi, chief global operations officer, praised the ongoing collaboration between Qatar Charity and OCHA, including the organization of this roundtable. Discussions focused on key topics including: the current humanitarian landscape in Syria, coordination mechanisms among humanitarian organizations, integrated programming between relief and development sectors, sectoral convergence for sustained impact, the role of Syrian NGOs, post-sanctions opportunities and challenges, and strategies for building robust partnerships and humanitarian alliances. Qatar Charity and OCHA concluded the roundtable by reaffirming their commitment to follow up on the event's recommendations and outcomes.
