Any insult to Tricolour will not be tolerated: Himachal CM
The Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday accused the BJP of insulting the national flag. Himachal chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu (File) Sukhu said the government has taken a tough stance regarding the alleged misbehaviour with cabinet minister Jagat Singh Negi in Seraj and the insult to the national flag. 'Any insult to the Tricolour will not be tolerated under any circumstances. A final decision regarding the entire incident will be taken after a meeting with Negi,' he said. Sukhu said, 'This act of BJP workers is indecent. The government has taken strict cognizance of this.' On Friday, in Janjehli area of Seraj assembly, some people showed black flags to revenue minister Jagat Singh Negi in protest against shifting of Thunag Horticulture College and threw shoes and black flags on his tricolour-bearing vehicle. The Mandi police on Saturday registered a case under sections 126 (2), 189 (2), 190, 191 (2) of BNS. 'On the demand of the children studying in the horticulture college and their parents, the government shifted Thunag College not far away but to Gohar of Nachan adjoining Mandi district. The revenue minister was repeatedly telling the public that this is the government's decision. But the people of BJP misbehaved with him. The government condemns this,' Sukhu said. Case should be withdrawn immediately: BJP state spokesperson Calling Sukhu-led state government 'insensitive', BJP state spokesperson Ajay Rana said, 'We strongly condemn the Himachal government for the way a case was registered against more than 65 people in Thunag area. The case should be withdrawn immediately by the government. The government should also have seen against whom they are registering FIRs, we clearly want to convey this voice to the ears of the government that 90% of the people in that protest were those who have been devastated by this disaster. Is this an attempt to scare the innocent people of Himachal? The public got angry because Jagat Negi's language was not right,' said BJP spokesperson. 'How was the tricolour insulted,' questioned BJP leader, while pointing at some past similar incidents that happened with BJP leaders.

Ministers slam BJP for insulting national flag and senior minister
1 2 Shimla: Himachal Pradesh health minister Dhani Ram Shandil and agriculture minister Chander Kumar on Sunday slammed the BJP , accusing it of "insulting not just a senior minister of the state government, Jagat Singh Negi, but also the national flag, the symbol of India's pride and honour". In a joint statement, the ministers strongly condemned the July 25 incident involving Negi in Thunag area of Seraj assembly constituency. They alleged that BJP workers, "acting under the instructions of their leaders, threw shoes, slippers, and black cloth on the national flag mounted on minister Negi's car -- a highly shameful and condemnable act." "The Tricolour is a symbol of our nation's identity and countless brave soldiers and great leaders sacrificed their lives for its honour. But the way the BJP workers insulted our national flag reveals their true face to the public," the ministers said. They added that the people of the state now understand that BJP's 'Tiranga Yatras' were merely a show and that the party has no genuine respect for the national flag. The ministers, both veterans in public life, stated that they had been in politics for over five decades but had never witnessed such a low level of political conduct. They said the state government had decided to temporarily shift the Forestry College from Thunag to ensure students' safety, but BJP leaders were turning the issue into a political controversy and risking students' safety for political mileage. They also said that the revenue minister had visited Seraj and other parts of Mandi district affected by recent disasters to assess the damage suffered by farmers and horticulturists and to prepare a suitable relief package. "Farmers in Mandi suffered heavy losses in apple orchards and polyhouses used for floriculture. The revenue minister was going to present a detailed report in the cabinet," they added.

Delhi govt to explore naming schools after martyrs: Education Minister on Kargil Vijay Diwas
The Delhi government is considering naming prominent government schools after martyrs from the city to honour their sacrifice and inspire the next generation, Delhi's Education Minister Ashish Sood said on Saturday. He was addressing a gathering at a Kargil Vijay Diwas event at Shivaji College, University of Delhi. 'It is our responsibility to keep the memories of our heroes alive,' Sood said, adding that renaming schools after martyrs from Delhi will not only be a mark of respect but also a way to instil patriotism and a sense of duty among students. The minister paid floral tributes to Captain Sumit Roy, Captain Anuj Nayyar and Captain Hanif-ud-Din, all three alumni of Shivaji College, who laid down their lives during the Kargil conflict. The ceremony was attended by students, faculty and family members of the martyrs, including Captain Roy's mother, Swapna Roy, according to a statement. In his address, Sood reflected on the courage of young soldiers who, despite being barely out of college, showed exceptional bravery on the battlefield. 'They were in their early twenties but displayed the leadership and courage of seasoned warriors and their acts of gallantry ensured the Tricolour flew high on our peaks,' he said. He underlined the broader meaning of serving the nation, stressing that patriotism goes beyond the battlefield. 'Keeping our surroundings clean, following traffic rules and protecting public property are also acts of national service,' he added. Sood said, 'Everyone wishes to draw inspiration from Bhagat Singh, but no one wants him to be born in their own home. Yet even today, Indian families raise children who are ready to serve and, if needed, sacrifice for the country.' The minister also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to establish a national war memorial and honour the families of martyrs. 'For the first time in decades, the families of fallen soldiers are invited and honoured every evening at the war memorial. This is a deeply respectful and humane gesture,' he said. On behalf of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Sood assured that the Delhi government remains committed to supporting the families of the martyrs. Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to mark India's victory in the Kargil War.

'We all want a secure and prosperous nation but expect the ultimate sacrifice to come from someone else's family. Yet, such is the spirit embedded in the soil of our country that even today, our youth are ready to serve in the armed forces with unwavering commitment,' Sood said. Recalling the bravery of soldiers who fought in the Kargil War, Sood said that young soldiers such as Captain Hanif-ud-Din, 21, Captain Sumit Roy, 21, and Captain Anuj Nayyar, 24, displayed remarkable courage and quick action. 'Despite severe injuries, they destroyed enemy bunkers one after another, and ensured that the Tricolour was proudly hoisted on the peaks. Their sacrifice is a shining symbol of leadership and gallantry,' he added Sood said that not everyone needs to go to the battlefield to serve the country. 'Serving the nation also means fulfilling our civic duties, keeping our surroundings clean, following traffic rules, protecting public property, and living as responsible citizens. These are also acts of patriotism, equally vital for the progress of the country,' he said. He thanked the Prime Minister for establishing the National War Memorial. Sood also commended the principal, faculty, and students of Shivaji College for organising the event to honour their alumni who laid down their lives for the country.

Reverence was paid to Captain Vikram Batra (PVC), whose famous words — "Either I will hoist the Tricolour, or I will return wrapped in it" — echoed in memory at the ceremony. Land Port manager Sudhir Sharma quoted revolutionary Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil: "Shaheedon ki chitaon par lagenge har baras mele, Watan pe marne walon ka baki yahi nishaan hoga," stirring patriotic emotion among those present.
