NFL Draft Summer Scouting Report: Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee

Summer is here, and it is everyone's favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Vikings fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Minnesota. Are we going to write about quarterbacks? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Vikings, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Vikings fans can be the most informed fans. So if you are still with us, enjoy our latest Summer Scouting report as we prepare you for the Fall. Player Information Player: Jermod McCoy School: Tennessee Height/Weight: 6-0/193 lbs. Player Background - 3-Star Recruit - All-State Baseball Player - Won Two State Titles in Long Jump and Triple Jump - Transferred from Oregon State to Tennessee - First-Team All-SEC in 2024 Career Stats Heading into the 2025 Season - 75 Tackles - 2 Tackles for a Loss - 6 Interceptions - 16 Pass Breakups Notable PFF Numbers Heading into the 2025 Season - 67 PFF Run Defense Grade - 77.5 PFF Pass Coverage Grade - 73 NFL QBR When Targeted - Called for 8 Penalties Player Traits - Blanket ability in man coverage - Playmaking ability with ball skills and instincts - Good size and length to handle bigger, faster receivers - Can be physical in press coverage at the line of scrimmage - Excellent burst and closing speed on receivers Player Summary Jermod McCoy tore his ACL ahead of the 2025 season back in January while training, and as a result, we are not likely to see him in the Fall. What he put on film, though, in 2024 was enough to make him the clear-cut number one cornerback heading into the new season. He blankets wide receivers with his movement skills and coverage ability. He has the closing speed and burst you want from your cornerbacks, as well as those traits giving him an added playmaking ability. McCoy also has the ball skills to make plays on the ball and it leads me to believe he can be every bit the same type of cover corner and playmaker in the NFL with a healthy knee.
