Suruchi Phogat extends her domination in air pistol
Suruchi Phogat continued to assert her class as she beat double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker by 1.1 points for the top spot in the women's air pistol in the National shooting selection trials at the Trishul Academy in Maharana Pratap Sports College in Dehradun on Sunday. The 19-year-old Suruchi, who has swept all three individual gold medals in the three World Cups in Buenos Aires, Lima and Munich, qualified in the first place with 585. In the final, she stayed ahead of the pack with a strong lead and emerged on top despite a 9.9 last shot. Rahi Sarnobat, the sports pistol exponent, showcased her grip on air pistol by placing third ahead of Esha Singh, who shot the second-best qualifying score of 581. Pranjali Dhumal, Simranpreet Kaur Brar, Priya Muralidhar and Sakshi Suryavanshi were the others to make the final. In men's air pistol, Samrat Rana beat former world No. 1 and Olympic finalist Saurah Chaudhary by 0.2 points for the top spot. Aditya Malra placed third ahead of Amanpreet Singh, Kamaljeet, qualification topper Aakash Bhardwaj (584), Vikash Kumar and Rajan Tomar. In men's rifle 3-position event, Niraj Kumar topped yet again as he beat qualification topper Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar (595) by two points. World Cup gold medallist Akhil Sheoran beat Olympic medallist Swapnil Kusale to the third spot. Goldi Gurjar, Nikhil Tanwar, Babu Singh Panwar and Hemant Bhicher were the others to make the final. Rahi Sarnobat back to her best in sports pistol
Asian Games gold medallist and three-time World Cup champion Rahi Sarnobat was back to her best as she beat a strong field and topped the sports pistol event with a six-point margin over Abhidnya Patil in the National shooting selection trials at the Trishul Academy in Maharana Pratap Sports College, on Saturday. After having top scored with 582, on par with world record holder Rhythm Sangwan who slipped to the seventh spot, the 34-year-old Rahi shot with her usual consistent accuracy in the final. Vibhuti Bhatia took the third place ahead of World Cup gold medallist Chinki Yadav. Anjali Choudhary, Ishneet Aulakh and Heena Sidhu were the others to make the final. World championship silver medallist Mehuli Ghosh was in equally robust form as she topped the air rifle event, beating Meghana Sajjanar by a half point. More importantly, Mehuli had shot 633.3 in qualification, the second best behind Asian Games medalist Ramita Jindal (633.5), who eventually placed fourth behind Sonam Maskar. Rajshreeri Sancheti, Narmada NIthin, Kashika Pradhan and Tilottama Sen were the others to make the final. In 50-metre rifle 3-position event, Niraj Kumar prevailed over qualification topper Babu Singh Panwar (591) with a 6.6 point margin. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar beat Olympic medalist Swapnil Kusale to the third place, while Rudrankksh Patil placed fifth. Nikhil Tanwar, Surya Pratap Singh Banshtu and Prathan Bhadana were the others to make the final. The results: Women: 10m air rifle: 1. Mehuli Ghosh 253.6 (633.3); 2. Narmada Nithin tops air rifle; Anish Bhanwala reigns in rapid fire pistol
Narmada Nithin beat Sonam Maskar by 1.7 points for the top spot in women's air rifle in the National shooting selection trials at the Trishul Academy in Maharana Pratap Sports College on Friday. Rajshree Sancheti won third place ahead of Shreya Agrawal and qualification topper Mehuli Ghosh (632.2). Ayonika Paul, Dhyaneswari Patil and Vidarsa Vinod were the others to make the final. In rapid fire pistol, Anish Bhanwala pipped Pradeep Shekhawat 30-29 for the top spot, after topping qualification with 584. Adarsh Singh, who scored the second best in qualification with 581, was placed third ahead of Udhayveer Sidhu, Bhavesh Shekhawat and Mandeep Singh. Vijayveer Sidhu shot 568 and placed 12th. The results: 10m air rifle: Women: 1. Narmada Nithin 253.7 (629.5); 2. Sonam Maskar 252.0 (632.1); 3. Rajshree Sancheti 230.0 (631.9). 25m rapid fire pistol: Men: 1. Anish Bhanwala 30 (584); 2. Umamahesh Maddineni tops air rifle in National shooting trials
Junior World Cup champion Umamahesh Maddineni shot well in the final to beat World champion Rudrankksh Patil by 0.7 points in the men's air rifle event in the third National shooting selection trials at the Trishul Academy in Maharana Pratap Sports College on Wednesday. Qualification topper and former world No.1 Divyansh Singh Panwar (632.9) placed third ahead of Parth Mane, Shourya Siani,, Paarth Makhija, Vishal Singh and Sandeep Singh. In women's 50-metre rifle 3-position event, world record holder Sift Kaur Samra outclassed the field by 10.4 point margin, after having scored 591 in qualification. Aakriti Dahiya rose to the second spot ahead of qualification topper Ashi Chouksey (592). Mehuli Ghosh, Ayushi Podder, Vidarsa Vinod, Nischal and Vanshika Shahi were the others to make the final. In rapid fire pistol, Anish Bhanwala was top class both in qualification and final to stay ahead of the pack in the race for making the national team for the Asian championship and the last World Cup of the season.
