Tropicana Cenang marks 100 per cent take-up for final phase
LANGKAWI: Tropicana Corporation Bhd celebrated a significant milestone for its Langkawi-based Tropicana Cenang development with the topping off of Assana and Merissa Serviced Suites, which have both achieved 100 per cent take-up. The ceremony also marked the official launch of the final phase, Clarissa Serviced Suites, alongside the unveiling of its show unit. Located on 2.13 hectares of freehold land at Pantai Cenang, the integrated, green-certified project is set for completion next year. The first two phases, Assana and Merissa, offer 831 and 60 fully furnished serviced suites, respectively, designed for resort-style living. Assana units range from 380 to 1,310 sq ft, while Merissa features duplex layouts between 1,066 and 1,303 sq ft. Each phase is positioned for premium beachfront access and comes with concierge services. "With such strong demand, we are rolling out our phase three, Clarissa Serviced Suites, together with a brand-new show unit. Our audience is largely savvy homebuyers, business owners, and families looking for holiday homes," said project managing director Allan Wong and managing director for marketing, sales and business development, Ixora Ang. "Tropicana has expanded its foothold to Langkawi for more than a decade now. Langkawi is known for its duty-free status, cultural heritage, and its rich geological history dating back half a billion years, including mountains, islands, and beaches. "We see the huge growth potential and over the years, we have engaged with various stakeholders, showing our support to the community and authority with R&R upgrade, infrastructure enhancement and charity initiatives," they added. FEATURES AND FUTURE PLANS At 40 storeys, Clarissa Serviced Suites comprises 806 fully furnished units and seven Beachwalk Shoppes. Units range from 536 to 1,356 sq ft, including studio to four-bedroom configurations. Designed with a 'tropical elegance' concept, each unit features integrated kitchen and sanitary fittings, smart storage and minimalist resort-style interiors inspired by Langkawi's coastal setting. Key amenities include a seafront infinity pool, rooftop viewing deck, concierge services and direct access to the beach. The development will be managed by T-Journey and aims for GreenRE certification and QLASSIC workmanship assessment. Tropicana Cenang offers a number of key selling points across all three phases: a freehold title, strategic location just nine kilometres from Langkawi International Airport, premium seafront living and proximity to retail, food and leisure offerings. It is set to be the tallest building in Langkawi and aims to serve a growing market of holidaymakers, retirees and investment buyers. As part of its CSR programme, Tropicana has pledged RM200 for every Clarissa unit sold, targeting RM160,000 in donations over three years. Funds will support local schools, families, elderly care and medical initiatives through its Cenang CSR programme. Tropicana also plans to continue its expansion in Langkawi with future developments including Tropicana Lagoon and Tropicana Shores, in line with its mission of building community-focused, sustainable developments. VitaHealth, Tropicana expand OFFLINE 16 to champion mental wellness in Malaysia
PETALING JAYA: Tropicana Corp Bhd and VitaHealth Malaysia have expanded OFFLINE 16, a wellness movement designed to promote preventive mental well-being through real-world experiences that encourage Malaysians to unplug, reconnect, and build healthier habits. Ixora Ang, managing director of sales, marketing and business development at Tropicana, said: "Our mission is to create sustainable, liveable townships that truly support the people who call them home. Environmental, social and governance (ESG) isn't just about the environment and governance; it is about the people too. OFFLINE 16 shows how this vision goes beyond buildings; it's about giving everyone a chance to unplug, reconnect, and care for their wellbeing together." Ang said Tropicana is proud to champion this wellness movement with VitaHealth, Tropicana Foundation and event sponsor TGCR. Mental health is an increasingly pressing issue in Malaysia, with nearly one million adults – about 4.6 per cent of the population – living with depression, almost double the figure recorded in 2019. According to the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023, one in six children also face mental health challenges. The rise in digital dependency is compounding this crisis, as excessive screen time is increasingly linked to anxiety, depression and social isolation. Despite growing awareness, access to mental health support remains limited. The WHO World Mental Health Surveys indicate that up to 78 per cent of people in upper-middle-income countries still do not receive the mental health care they need. Dr KS Beh, chief executive officer of VitaHealth (Malaysia & Singapore) and founder of OFFLINE 16, said the idea stemmed from witnessing how screen time was consuming people's lives. "The idea to go offline came to me when I noticed how screen time was taking over people's lives, leaving them disconnected and mentally drained. That sparked the birth of OFFLINE 16, a movement inviting people to unplug and reconnect meaningfully while building a happier community." Since its launch in 2024, OFFLINE 16 has steadily gained momentum. The inaugural edition attracted more than 300 participants. To date, the movement has clocked 30 offline hours across five editions, engaging participants through various themed activities that combine physical, mental and social wellness for this year's OFFLINE 16. The 2025 rollout began in May with a pickleball challenge in Penang that attracted 200 participants, followed by a matures's retreat at FRIM, Kepong, and a beach cleanup in Sabah, which together engaged another 300 participants. The main event will take place on August 16 at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort (TGCR) and is expected to be the largest edition yet. Highlights include a pickleball session with VitaHealth ambassadors, Olympian Pearly Tan and Malaysia's top pickleball player Colin Wong, along with interactive games, wellness workshops, live jazz performances, recycling activities, DIY arts and crafts, health screenings, mental wellness games, and a relaxation zone complete with reading nooks and massage chairs. The final retreat for 2025 will be hosted in October and will focus on providing a restful resort experience, featuring activities that encourage participants to pause and recharge. All participants will receive exclusive wellness packs worth over RM300 and stand a chance to win lucky draw prizes worth up to RM15,000. OFFLINE 16 is supported by Tropicana Foundation and event sponsor TGCR, with Big Caring Group also lending its support. Big Caring Group's chief marketing officer, Wong Siew Lai, believes that health should encompass not only medication but also mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. With over 500 participants already engaged this year, VitaHealth and Tropicana are well on track to meet their target of 1,200.

Digital detox movement gains traction with events held in Penang, Sabah, Selangor and KL
(From left) Koay, Tay, Wong, Beh, Ang, Lim and Ngan during the official launch of the Offline 16 event. — RAJA FAISAL HISHAN/The Star The Offline 16 initiative has returned with an expanded four-part series to promote mental and physical wellness through digital detoxing. The second edition of the event by VitaHealth Malaysia and Tropicana Corporation Berhad aimed at getting people to disconnect from digital devices for 16 hours. This year's edition will see four separate events held across different states. The first leg, in May, kicked off with a pickleball challenge drawing 200 participants in Penang. This was followed by a nature retreat at Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in Kepong, Selangor, and a beach clean-up in Sabah, which collectively attracted 300 more participants. The final event will be held on Aug 16 at Tropicana Golf and Country Resort in conjunction with the launch of its new pickleball court. A resort retreat is also planned in October for organisers and participants. At the launch event, VitaHealth Malaysia and Singapore chief executive officer and Offline 16 founder KS Beh said the idea stemmed from observing how people were increasingly attached to their screens. 'I spent a lot of time observing people and their lifestyles and realised that one of the most neglected issues today is how screen time is taking over our lives,' she said at the launch of the finale of this year's Offline 16 at Tropicana Golf and Country Resort in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. 'We end up falling in love with our phones, both young and old people alike. We date with our phones. We sleep with our phones. 'Not only does it leave the people around us neglected, but it leaves us mentally drained and disconnected.' Tropicana marketing, sales and business development managing director Ixora Ang said the movement was an opportunity for Malaysians to tackle rising mental health challenges. 'We encourage everyone to join us to take simple steps to switch off, step outside and reconnect with themselves, each other as well as the world around them.' Also present at the launch were VitaHealth South-East Asia new product development, regulatory affairs general manager Koay Suat Ling, its senior marketing manager Elysse Ngan, Tropicana group corporate communications Serena Lim, Big Caring Group business unit director Tay Li Yen and its chief marketing officer Wong Siew Lai. Over 500 participants took part in the first three events, and the organisers are aiming to reach 1,200 by the end of the series. The finale on Aug 16 will have over 20 engaging and relaxing activities. Highlights include a pickleball session with VitaHealth ambassadors Olympian Pearly Tan and Malaysia's top pickleball player Colin Wong, as well as a sunset walk, live music, recycling workshop, health screenings, arts and crafts and mental wellness games. Participants will receive exclusive goodies worth over RM300 and stand a chance to win RM15,000 in lucky draw prizes. The event is supported by Big Pharmacy, Caring Pharmacy and official pickleball equipment partner Facolos. Registration for the final event will be announced on VitaHealth's social media channels.
