DAVID MARCUS: PBS, NPR and a lethal case of TDS

For the first time, after decades of trying, Republicans appear on the verge of defunding PBS and NPR over the wild left-wing bias of their news reporting, and remarkably, rather than promising changes, the progressive elites in charge are doubling down on Trump derangement. It's all happening even as Congress considers a rescission bill from President Donald Trump to slash their lefty slush fund. On Wednesday, the PBS NewsHour aired a segment on Trump's victory in a lawsuit against CBS News, which settled for $16 million over deceptive editing by "60 Minutes" of a Kamala Harris interview during the 2024 campaign. To address the issue, they brought on CNN's Brian Stelter, yes the same Brian Stelter who, with a straight face, parroted the ludicrous White House line that President Biden was fine and just a victim of right-wing video "cheap fakes," last year. You remember, about eight minutes before Grandpa Joe imploded on a debate stage. You will not be surprised to learn that the left-wing, water-carrying Stelter told the left-wing water-carrying NewsHour that the left-wing water-carrying "CBS did not actually do anything wrong here. CBS engaged in standard television news editing practices." At this point, in a failure of journalistic ethics that would make Pravda blush, supposedly straight news anchor Amna Nawaz gave Stelter's astounding lie no pushback. In fact, the abjectly subjective and obviously biased opinion of Stelter was simply treated as fact. So what really happened? We all saw it. One morning during the election campaign, "60 Minutes" put out a clip of its Harris interview in which she answered a question about Israel with a run-on nonsense sentence that made Joe Biden look eloquent. But, lo and behold, when the episode aired, the answer that we had already seen was no more, replaced by a highly edited version that made Harris almost seem cogent. In the original clip, when host Bill Whittaker asks why Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not listening to Biden, Harris said the following: "Well, Bill ... the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region." And here is the answer that eventually aired on the program: "We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end." In no universe of fair and honest journalism can this blatant clean-up on aisle Harris be viewed as anything other than CBS News trying to make the Democrat candidate look better. It's not a standard practice, it's a lie. PBS NewsHour and Stelter didn't dare roll the actual tapes, or their feeble claim that CBS News parent company Paramount is bribing Trump to get approval for a merger would have collapsed faster than CNN's ratings. And this is not a new issue for public broadcasting. It was April of last year when longtime NPR editor Uri Berliner penned a scathing column about the outrageous, if soft-spoken, bias at the outlet. But have we seen any changes? Have we seen the executives who run PBS and NPR take any action to present a fair news product? Obviously not. As the Stelter interview shows, these outlets are still as bad as ever. It very much seems that, having resigned themselves to the fact that Republicans are going to cut their direct federal funding, PBS and NPR have decided to go all in on the anti-Trump sentiment their base craves. Maybe they can move a few extra tote bags and umbrellas. Given the utter lack of remorse shown by PBS and NPR, even when evidence of their rank bias piles up like garbage during a trash strike, no self-respecting Republican should vote to give them a dime. PBS and NPR have been given years, even decades, to clean up their act and live up to their responsibility to provide unbiased news in the service of the public, not in the service of the Democrat Party. Time is up. Public broadcasting can be a propaganda arm of the Left or it can be funded by taxpayers; It can no longer be both. And after all, with the passage of Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill, millions of people who love public broadcasting will be free to donate their significant tax savings to PBS and NPR, while the rest of us can opt out of funding fake news. I call that a win-win.

Randy Rainbow Breaks Down the Actual Meaning of ‘Trump Derangement' in New Parody Song

Randy Rainbow released his latest parody on Tuesday morning, but this time, it's more of a vocabulary lesson than anything. That's because, in this video, he's breaking down exactly what 'Trump Derangement' really is. 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' is a term that Republicans coined to describe 'a phenomenon marked by extreme negative reactions' to Donald Trump (they've even tried to introduce a bill that would 'direct the National Institutes of Health to study the psychological and social roots' of the condition). It is not actually a medical condition. So, in his latest parody, set to the tune of 'That's Entertainment!' from 'The Band Wagon,' Rainbow sets out to define what it actually means, as a not-doctor himself. In place of his typical fake interview with Trump or one of his allies, Rainbow instead starts the video as a PSA. 'Are you feeling a bit frazzled lately? You know, like constant explosive diarrhea frazzled?' he asks to start the video. 'Is your morning coffee starting to taste a little less 'rise and shine' and a little more 'stand back and stand by?' Have you started yelling 'My body, my choice!' at your toaster?'' 'Now, I'm no licensed medical professional, but I do pretend to know what I'm talking about a lot on social media, and according to TikTok and this current administration, that makes me a doctor,' he continues. 'I believe you're suffering from a common condition, recently rejected by Health Secretary RFK Jr. for possibly containing trace amounts of science and observable reality. It's called TDS.' As the music kicks in, Rainbow goes into detail about what 'Trump Derangement' really is. 'If you miss when facts were all true, feel insane 'cause you have half a brain,' he sings. The American Bar Association and dozens of other bar groups this week slammed President Donald Trump's continued crackdown on the legal system as an attack on the rule of law. 'Words and actions matter,' the groups wrote in an open letter on Wednesday, which did not mention the president by name. 'And the intimidating words and actions we have heard and seen must end. They are designed to cow our country's judges, our country's courts and our legal profession.' Trump has attacked judges seen as stymieing his agenda and targeted several law offices he thinks have crossed him. The ABA — a voluntary professional organization for lawyers — has repeatedly criticized the second Trump administration early in his term, even as the country's biggest law firms have been unwilling to cross the president. Trump has come down hard on Democratic-leaning law firms, signing executive orders and memos suspending security clearances and barring the federal government from hiring employees from firms like Perkins Coie and Covington and Burling. One firm initially in Trump's crosshairs — Paul, Weiss — saw its sanctions lifted after agreeing to perform pro bono legal work for conservative clients and ending diversity policies. The retribution tour has now made its way to Congress, with GOP Senate offices told to take note of the blacklisted firms in an email sent last Friday. 'We reject efforts to undermine the courts and the profession,' the bar associations wrote. 'We will not stay silent in the face of efforts to remake the legal profession into something that rewards those who agree with the government and punishes those who do not.' The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the ABA's criticism. Trump has clashed with the organization for years, particularly after some of his first-term judicial nominees were rated as 'not qualified' by the organization. Trump and his allies in Congress have also launched a stream of attacks against judges, including U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, whose rulings have barred Trump from using wartime powers to deport alleged gang members without due process. 'He is Highly Conflicted, not only in his hatred of me — Massive Trump Derangement Syndrome! — but also, because of disqualifying family conflicts,' Trump wrote on Truth Social Thursday morning. Boasberg on Wednesday was assigned to handle another case that is sure to draw Trump's ire — the Signalgate lawsuit, which alleges White House officials ran afoul of federal record-keeping rules. 'If lawyers do not speak, who will speak for our judges? Who will protect our bedrock of justice? If we do not speak now, when will we speak? Now is the time. That is why we stand together with the ABA in support of the rule of law,' the groups wrote.

President Trump had a late-night meltdown on Truth Social about his least favorite federal judge being assigned to the Signalgate lawsuit. 'How disgraceful is it that 'Judge' James Boasberg has just been given a fourth 'Trump Case,' something which is, statistically, IMPOSSIBLE. There is no way for a Republican, especially a TRUMP REPUBLICAN, to win before him. He is Highly Conflicted, not only in his hatred of me—Massive Trump Derangement Syndrome!— but also, because of disqualifying family conflicts,' Trump wrote past one o'clock in the morning on Thursday. 'Boasberg, who is the Chief Judge of the D.C. District Court, seems to be grabbing the 'Trump Cases' all to himself, even though it is not supposed to happen that way,' he continued. 'Is there still such a thing as the 'wheel,' where the Judges are chosen fairly, and at random? The good news is that it probably doesn't matter, because it is virtually impossible for me to get an Honest Ruling in D.C. Our Nation's Courts are broken, with New York and D.C. being the most preeminent of all in their Corruption and Radicalism. There must be an immediate investigation of this Rigged System, before it is too late!' Trump officials were sued Tuesday by the government watchdog American Oversight after news broke that The Atlantic's editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, was added to a Signal group chat in which multiple Cabinet members and Vice President JD Vance were discussing an attack on the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The administration has denied that anything classified was covered, and Trump himself blamed it on someone who worked at a 'lower level.' Now Boasberg will be the judge. Boasberg's Signalgate assignment comes after he already ruled against the Trump administration's extrajudicial deportation of hundreds of Venezuelan men with no proven ties to Tren de Agua—the gang that Trump swears they're all from—to El Salvador. 'This Radical Left Lunatic of a Judge, a troublemaker and agitator who was sadly appointed by Barack Hussein Obama, was not elected President—He didn't WIN the popular VOTE (by a lot!), he didn't WIN ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, he didn't WIN 2,750 to 525 Counties, HE DIDN'T WIN ANYTHING!' Trump wrote of Boasberg on Truth Social on March 18. 'This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges' I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!! WE DON'T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS, MANY OF THEM DERANGED MURDERERS, IN OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!'
