ICM to sponsor 3 sheep classes at Tullamore Show
Irish Country Meats (ICM) is set to sponsor three classes in the sheep section at this year's Tullamore Show and FBD National Livestock Show. The annual event is set to return to the Butterfield Estate, Blueball, Tullamore, Co. Offaly on Sunday, August 10. Following on from a record-breaking entry of over 1,000 sheep at the 2024 event, it is hoped that this year will see the sheep section showcase an even bigger and better selection of sheep across the various different classes. Once again this year, the Navan, Co. Meath and Camolin, Co. Wexford-based sheep processor has committed to sponsoring a number of classes on the day. The deadline for online entries is this Friday, July 4, and the following classes will be sponsored by ICM this year: Class 528 : 4 Star or 5 Star Multi-Breed Shearling Ram and Upwards; : 4 Star or 5 Star Multi-Breed Shearling Ram and Upwards; Class 529 : 4 Star or 5 Star Multi-Breed Ram Lamb; : 4 Star or 5 Star Multi-Breed Ram Lamb; Class 395: Junior Stockperson of the Sheep Section Class 528 is open to all 4/5 star genotyped Shearling rams and class 529 is open to all 4/5 star genotyped ram lambs. Exhibitors in class 395 must be aged 16 or under on the day of the event with proof of age available. Entrants in this class must present a pedigree or commercial sheep in the ring. Sustainable Livestock Village returns to Tullamore Show The Sustainable Livestock Village is set to return to the Tullamore Show and FBD National Livestock Show on Sunday, August 10. This year, there will be a strong emphasis placed on the role of young farmers in delivering sustainable change, with Macra joining the village for the first time to highlight generation renewal and youth-led innovation. Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Noel Grealish, officially launched the 2025 village on the farm of FBD Young Farmer of the Year 2024, dairy farmer, Christopher Cahill.

Well known hotelier and businessman Christy Maye dies
Hotelier and well known businessman Christy Maye has died. Mr Maye owned the Bridge House Hotel and the Bridge Centre in Tullamore, Co Offaly and the Greville Arms Hotel in Mullingar, Co Westmeath. He was one of the founders of the popular Tullamore Show. He is also known for bringing the first ever disco to Ireland. In the 1960s, Mr Maye came up with the idea of "Disc A Go Go", which began in Mullingar Parochial Hall. Mr Maye is survived by his wife, Eileen and their three children and families.

Tullamore Show launches schedule of classes for 2025
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Martin Heydon has officially launched the 2025 Tullamore Show and the FBD National Livestock Show. The minister attended the annual sponsors evening which took place recently on the banks of the Grand Canal at the Old Warehouse in Tullamore. The 2025 Tullamore Show will take place at the Butterfield Estate, Blueball, Co. Offaly on Sunday, August 10. Tullamore Show The MC on the night was once again, Derek Nevin who along with his wife, Michelle Leaper Nevin, are co-ordinators of the canine section at the show. Derek first introduced the new chairperson of Tullamore Show, John Keena who thanked all the sponsors. 'No matter how small or large the sponsorship is, it's what helps us keep the show running,' he said. John also thanked the Minister Heydon for his presence and acknowledged his role in the farm safety live demostrations over the years. The chairperson concluded his speech with a list of new attractions to the show. One of the many new additions will be a display cow, which was sponsored by Cormac Tagging. In collaboration with Offaly County Council and the ESB, Tullamore Show will have the Sustainable Livestock Village powered by hydrogen, which will be a first of its kind at an agricultural show. Goats, Valais Blacknose Sheep and Fleckvieh cattle are also some new additions to the show, along with a VEX Robotics class in the inventions section. Livestock Pat Gilligan, FBD head of sales in the midlands and western region, said that the company is proud to the title sponsor of the Tullamore Show. 'It is the highlight of the FBD's busy summer calendar and one we look forward to each year. 'Tullamore Show and FBD National Livestock Show is a wonderful reflection of all that is positive within Ireland's livestock and farming sector. 'FBD are proud to be involved in the Sustainable Livestock Village with the ever popular FBD speakers corner again this year,' he said. During his speech, Minister Martin Heydon reminisced on the interaction he has had over the years with Tullamore Show. Heydon noted that agricultural shows such as Tullamore Show play a vital part in exhibiting farming and all that goes with it, it is a way to synchronise rural – urban communities. The speeches concluded with chair John Keena and show secretary Chelsey Cox McDonald making a presentation to Minister Martin Heydon.

Young handlers' event marks launch of 2025 Tullamore Show
Tullamore Show and FBD National Livestock Show launched their 2025 show with a learning day for young handlers recently (Sunday, April 27). Young handlers flocked from around the country from early morning and converged at GVM Mart Tullamore, Co. Offaly. Representatives from FBD were on hand to launch the show – local FBD branch manager Amanda Brennan along with Emer O'Byrne, national head of brand strategy, and Pat Gilligan, head of sales, midlands and western region. Tullamore Show chairperson, John Keena opened proceedings by welcoming everyone to the young handlers' event where he also thanked all sponsors and FBD its title sponsor, for their loyal support. Keena also expressed his gratitude to Antoinette Daly of GVM Tullamore, for providing the venue and thanked all the Executive who gave their time in the preparation and setting up of both the event and the launch. The aim of the young handlers' event was that each participant would learn the skills necessary for handling stock at Tullamore Show. Pat Gilligan, FBD said: 'At FBD, we are extremely proud to sponsor the FBD National Livestock Show at the Tullamore Show. 'This event is a true highlight in our calendar, celebrating the very best of Ireland's world class livestock.
