The premise: Murder in the name of medicine Flower of Death dives deep into a morally complex and haunting narrative. At the heart of the story is a notorious serial killer who justifies his brutal crimes as 'human experiments.' He claims his research could lead to a cure for all human diseases. One is a desperate father who must save the killer's life in hopes of curing his ailing daughter. The other is a relentless prosecutor determined to seek justice for the innocent lives lost. 6 most inspiring K-drama fathers

2. Nam Do-san's Dad in 'Start-Up' (2020) Above 'Start-Up' (Photo: IMDB) Nam Seong-hwan (Kim Won-hae), the father of boy genius Nam Do-san (Nam Joo-hyuk), is equal parts geeky and devoted. He's the type who would silently mortgage the family home if it meant giving his son a second chance. His support is steadfast and unconditional, and his occasional goofiness makes him even more lovable. Bonus points for that adorable robot scene. 3. Hong Dae-young in '18 Again' (2020) Technically also a fantasy storyline, 18 Again gives us a two-for-one: Yoon Sang-hyun as the 37-year-old version of Hong Dae-young and Lee Do-hyun as his teenage self. A dad who gets to re-experience high school through the eyes of his children, Hong Dae-young's emotional journey is both hilarious and deeply touching. It's a heartfelt meditation on fatherhood, regret and redemption. 4. Park Sung-yeol in 'Itaewon Class' (2020) Park Sae-ro-yi's father, Park Sung-yeol (Son Hyun-joo)—one of the most impactful K-drama dads—doesn't always get a lot of airtime. His influence, however, is immense and lasts throughout the series. A paragon of moral integrity, Sung-yeol instils in his son the unshakeable values that become the drama's north star. His death is a catalyst for the story, and his presence echoes in every decision Park Sae-ro-yi makes. Gentle, hardworking and unwavering in his belief in doing the right thing, he's the father we all wish we had. 5. Yang Gwan-sik in 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' (2025) Yang Gwan-sik (Park Bo-gum/Park Hae-joon) made husbands and fathers everywhere feel bad about themselves. Even other K-drama dads seem inadequate. Where else will you find a devoted person who would steal his parents' fish wares for his childhood crush? Where else will you find a man who would swim the ocean to get to his one true love? Where else will you find a father who would turn his back on traditions to give peas to his daughter? He works 12 hours a day, waking up at the crack of dawn to provide for his family. He's always there to save the day—whether to save his wife from his domineering grandma or to buy his struggling son's rice cakes in secret. See more: 5 life lessons from 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' 6. Ha Yi-chan in 'Twinkling Watermelon' (2023) Above 'Twinkling Watermelon' (Photo: IMDB) As both a teen (Ryeoun) and later a deaf father (Choi Won-young), Ha Yi-chan is an extraordinary depiction of fatherhood across time. The show handles his disability with dignity and strength, showing how love can transcend spoken words. His connection with his son Eun-gyeol is musically magical—and emotionally resonant. Future K-drama dads better look at this depiction for lessons.

New youth K-drama touted as next Lovely Runner hits 0% ratings after just two episodes

Following the success of Byeon Woo Seok's Lovely Runner, K-drama makers saw a surprising uptick in audience interest in stories based on boy bands, a trend that grew even stronger with shows like Twinkling Watermelon, which was both a commercial and popular hit. However, SBS's attempt to recreate the magic with its newly released Spring of Youth fell short of expectations, blame it on poor promotion or the failure to land a deal with OTT giants like Netflix or Prime, which now play a major role in making K-dramas successful thanks to their vast global reach. Youth of Spring premiered on May 6 and, after a brief period of traction, lost its footing in the domestic market. The show opens with the band performing at a concert, along with an announcement that their new music recently made it to the world's top album chart. A private celebration with the members and the CEO follows. The next thing we know, a video surfaces early the next morning showing a drunk Sa Gye punching the CEO of his label, someone he once said he would never dream of hurting, given he loved and respected him the most after his father. The show then takes a dramatic turn after Sa Gye's encounter with Kim Bom, a girl with a mysterious tune attached to her necklace, the same tune that often plays in his dreams. What follows is Sa Gye being kicked out of the band, with all his assets seized to pay for the damages. On the other hand, the frustrated CEO seems to be hiding something and suspects Sa Gye knows what really happened six years ago. The show premiered to a 1.4% viewership rating, but the very next day, the numbers dropped dramatically to 0.7%, according to Allkpop. For international viewers, the show is streaming on Viki. But the audience reaction on social media seems to be more focused on the visuals rather than the story. The K-drama is directed by Kim Sung Yong and penned by Kim Min Chul. Ha Yoo Joon plays the titular character of Sa Gye, Kim Bom is played by Park Ji Hu, and Seo Tae Yang by Lee Seung Hyub. The story from here follows the trio setting up their own music band. The K-drama has its obvious romantic elements after Sa Gye starts sharing the same house as Kim Bom, following his fall from stardom. Later, he tells her that he seems to have some kind of connection with the melody, Bom claimed to have written herself, as he keeps hearing it in his dream. However, according to the Korea Times, Spring of Youth is being seen as a new version of the 2009 hit You're Beautiful, another musical romance that was a huge hit. To add a more real touch, Spring of Youth features actual FNC band members. Ha Yu Jun, who is the vocalist of AxMxP, and Lee Seung Hyub of The latter also got a lot of love last year for his role as Baek In Hyuk in Lovely Runner.

Weak Hero Class 2 drops hillarious Twinkling Watermelon callbacks referencing Ryeo Un and Choi Hyun Wook, and fans are losing it!

Weak Hero Class 2 just dropped on Netflix, and fans are already piecing together wild connections — and hilarious Twinkling Watermelon callbacks have taken over the K-drama fandom by storm. The newly released season brought back Park Ji Hoon's iconic character, Yeon Si Eun, but it also introduced some fresh faces, including Park Hu Min, aka Baku, played by Ryeo Un. While the action and grit are still very much intact, viewers quickly caught on to a surprising meta moment that sent K-drama Twitter into a frenzy. How are Weak Hero Class 2 and Twinkling Watermelon connected? In Weak Hero Class 1 and 2, Choi Hyun Wook played Ahn Soo Ho, Yeon Si Eun's fiercely loyal best friend. But if you've seen Twinkling Watermelon, you'll recognise him as Ha Yi Chan, the young dad in that time-slip drama. Now, Twinkling Watermelon's Ryeo Un has joined the Weak Hero universe as Bako — and here's the kicker: in Twinkling Watermelon, Ryeo Un played Ha Eun Gyeol, Ha Yi Chan's son. So when Ryeo Un as Bako in Weak Hero Class 2 casually tells Yeon Si Eun, 'You're acting like my dad,' fans immediately connected the dots. The reference hit like a truck, considering Choi Hyun Wook was Si Eun's best friend in season 1 and also played Bako's dad in a totally different universe. Fans also lost it when Yeon Si Eun and Bako first came face-to-face — naturally, in the middle of a brawl, as expected in classic Weak Hero style. Bako, the standout basketball ace at Eunjang High, steps in during a tense showdown between Si Eun and Ko Hyeon Tak (Lee Min Jae) and Choi Hyo Man (Yoo Soo Bin). While he recognises most of the crowd, he pauses when he sees Si Eun and casually goes, 'Who are you? I've never seen you before.' i swear weak hero class 2 did a twinkling watermelon reference when baku said he was acting like his dad. That one line was all it took for fans to spiral. One fan joked, 'THAT'S YOUR ALTERNATE UNIVERSE'S FATHER'S REAL HUSBAND IN THIS UNIVERSE,' referencing the ongoing fan-fueled ship between Yeon Si Eun and Ahn Soo Ho from season 1 'and who are you? i've never seen you before?' BITCH THAT'S YOUR ALTERNATE UNIVERSE'S FATHER'S REAL HUSBAND IN THIS UNIVERSE #weakheroclass2 #weakheroclassspoilers #weakheroclass In another easter egg, Baku plays the music from Twinkling Watermelon before announcing his entry, and that's how fans knew they were in for a crossover. not baku playing music for himself before his entry for the ✨main character ✨vibes and then stopped it after he beat hyoman for bullying others. WHAT A ENTRY😂❤️#약한영웅Class2 #WeakHeroClass2 #WeakHeroClass2Ep2 #ryeoun About Weak Hero Class 2 Picking up after the explosive events of Season 1, Weak Hero Class 2 follows Yeon Si Eun as he transfers to a new school, Eunjang High, to start over. But peace doesn't last long in his world as bullies, rival gangs, and new alliances pull him right back into the chaos, and this time, it's grittier than ever. About Twinkling Watermelon Ha Eun Gyeol, a CODA (child of deaf adults), leads a double life as a top student and secret guitarist. When he time-travels back to 1995, he meets his teenage dad, Ha Yi Chan, who's rebellious and dream-chasing. Eun Gyeol forms a band with his dad and discovers a new side of his family while navigating the challenges of altering the past. Whether the Twinkling Watermelon references in Weak Hero Class 2 are intentional easter eggs or just happy casting coincidences, K-drama watchers are happy to watch their two worlds collide. Weak Hero Class 2 is now streaming on Netflix! For all the latest K-drama, K-pop, and Hallyuwood updates, keep following our coverage here.
