Twins topple Mariners 10-1 to split four-game series

June 27 - Trevor Larnach homered, singled, drove in three runs and scored twice for the Minnesota Twins in a 10-1 win against the visiting Seattle Mariners on Thursday, helping them earn a split of the four-game series in Minneapolis. Brooks Lee and Matt Wallner also homered, Carlos Correa had two RBIs and Byron Buxton scored two runs in the leadoff spot for the Twins, who have won two in a row following a five-game skid. Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (3-4) came in winless in his past six starts, but he earned the victory after allowing just two hits over five shutout innings. He struck out six and walked one. Seattle starter Emerson Hancock (3-4) limited the Twins to two runs and three hits over five innings, striking out two and walking three, but the bullpen surrendered eight runs in the sixth. The start of the game was delayed four hours and 22 minutes because of rain. Buxton walked with one out in the fifth inning and took second on an errant pickoff attempt by Hancock. Larnach then belted a 2-1 changeup into the seats in right field for a 2-0 lead. The sixth inning began with Lee blasting a home run off reliever Zach Pop for a 3-0 lead. After back-to-back one-out walks, Buxton doubled in a run to make it 4-0. Another run came home on a throwing error before Willi Castro delivered an RBI double, followed by a two-run single from Correa and a two-run homer by Wallner to make it 10-0. Seattle backup catcher Mitch Garver left in the same inning after taking a foul ball off his mask. He was replaced by designated hitter Cal Raleigh, costing the Mariners their DH for the remainder of the game. Brock Stewart replaced Woods Richardson to start the sixth and gave up a leadoff single to J.P. Crawford before retiring the next three batters. Danny Coulombe and Justin Topa followed with shutout innings of relief for Minnesota before the Mariners strung together three straight two-out singles off Cole Sands in the ninth to end the shutout bid. Miles Mastrobuoni had the RBI for Seattle. --Field Level Media

Twins Top Mariners 10-1 After Spark From Woods Richardson's Strong Start And Larnach's Homer

Trevor Larnach homered with three RBIs after Simeon Woods Richardson started with five scoreless innings, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Seattle Mariners 10–1 on Thursday after a rain delay of 4 hours and 22 minutes. Brooks Lee led off an eight-run sixth against reliever Zach Pop with a home run. Then came RBI doubles from Byron Buxton and Willi Castro, a two-run single by Carlos Correa, and a two-run homer from Matt Wallner in the highest-scoring inning for the Twins since a nine-run outburst in the first at New York on April 13, 2023. Woods Richardson (3–4) produced a superb follow-up to the six scoreless innings Joe Ryan threw in a 2–0 victory on Wednesday, helping the Twins (39–42) win consecutive games for the first time since taking three straight from June 3–5. They lost 15 of 18 after that. Emerson Hancock (3–4) started with four scoreless innings for the Mariners before Larnach's two-run shot in the fifth. Mariners catcher Mitch Garver left in the fifth inning when Wallner fouled a ball off his mask, forcing star Cal Raleigh to finish behind the plate in forfeiture of the designated hitter. Key moment: Woods Richardson bent low to snag a screaming line drive leading off the fourth, flashing a big smile back at an impressed Julio Rodriguez. Key stat: The longest rain delay in Target Field's 16 seasons lasted 4:50 on June 22, 2017, before the Twins lost 9–0 to Chicago. Up next: Seattle starts a three-game series at Texas on Friday, the last stop on a 10-game road trip. Mariners RHP Logan Gilbert (2–2, 3.12 ERA) pitches against Rangers RHP Nathan Eovaldi (4–3, 1.56). The Twins start a three-game series at MLB-leading Detroit on Friday, considering an opener for RHP David Festa (1–2, 6.39) as they did during his last turn in the rotation. RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long (0–0, 4.58) will pitch for the Tigers.

Ryan Wins For 7th Time In 8 Decisions, Clemens Hits 9th Homer And Twins Beat Mariners 2-0

Joe Ryan won for the seventh time in eight decisions. Kody Clemens hit his ninth home run, and Willi Castro drove in the go-ahead run as the Minnesota Twins beat the Seattle Mariners 2–0 on Wednesday night to stop a five-game losing streak. Ryan (8–3) allowed three hits in six innings, struck out eight, and walked none to help Minnesota end a six-game home skid, its longest at Target Field since an eight-game slide from April 27 to May 20, 2016. Ryan has allowed one run or none in nine of 15 starts. Jhoan Duran, reaching 100 mph with three pitches, got three straight outs for his 11th save in 13 chances, combining with Louis Varland and Griffin Jax for hitless relief. Byron Buxton singled in the sixth off George Kirby (1–4), advanced on a groundout, and scored on Castro's single. Clemens homered in the seventh off Eduard Bazardo as Minnesota (38–42) won for the second time in 13 games. Kirby allowed one run and three hits in six innings. Seattle (41–38) had won three in a row. Key moment: Julio Rodríguez had an infield hit leading off the sixth, but Ryan struck out home run leader Cal Raleigh and got ex-Twin Jorge Polanco to hit into a double play. Key stat: Seattle began the day with the third-most home runs at 105, and Raleigh's 32 accounted for 30 percent. The Mariners hit 14 home runs through the first five games of their 10-game trip. Up next: Seattle RHP Emerson Hancock (3–3, 5.43) and Minnesota RHP Simeon Woods Richardson (2–4, 5.06) start Thursday's finale of the four-game series.
