4-star Buford safety Nascar McCoy names his top 5 schools

Four-star safety recruit Nascar McCoy has narrowed down his options to just five schools ahead of his commitment. McCoy appears to be planning to announce his commitment on Friday, July 25 between 6 and 10 p.m. ET at a night club in Atlanta. McCoy's top five schools are the Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas A&M Aggies and Miami Hurricanes. McCoy plays high school football for Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. Buford is one of the top high school football programs in the country. The Georgia Bulldogs already have a pair of commitments from Buford in three-star athlete Tyriq Green and three-star offensive lineman Graham Houston. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety is ranked as the No. 325 recruit in the country and the No. 40 player in Georgia, per the 247Sports Composite. McCoy, who is a member of the class of 2026 and is a rising senior, is the No. 26 safety in the nation. In McCoy's top schools announcement, he does not explicitly say his commitment date is July 25, but based on the context of his announcement (below) you can imply he'll make his commitment then. Georgia already has three safety commitments in the class of 2026 in Zech Fort, Jordan Smith and Kealan Jones. Athlete Tyriq Green also likely projects to be a safety, so it is a bit unlikely Georgia would be looking to add a fourth or fifth safety recruit to their 2026 signing class. Interestingly, the Auburn Tigers have hosted McCoy on visits more than any other program, but the Buford star did not include the Tigers in his top five. The four-star is projected to commit to Ole Miss, per Rivals. Follow UGAWire on Instagram or Threads for more Georgia recruiting coverage!

Florida Loses Race for No. 2 Safety in Georgia to SEC Rival

Florida Loses Race for No. 2 Safety in Georgia to SEC Rival originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Florida Gators will have to wait to add their second safety commitment from the 2026 class. On3's Hayes Fawcett reported Saturday that four-star safety Tyriq Green had committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. Green is a native of Buford, Georgia, and the No. 2 safety in the state. He is listed at 5-foot-10.5, 190 pounds. The other schools competing for him included the Auburn Tigers and Miami Hurricanes. If he picked Florida, he would have joined four-star safety Kaiden Hall, from Milton, Florida. Green's commitment was predicted by On3 Sports, with four experts picking the Bulldogs to land him on Wednesday. Green is the No. 13 safety in the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2026 class. Head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia made the recruit a priority, visiting with him seven times before his commitment. The Bulldogs were the last time to host him on an official visit on June 13. Florida had Green in Gainesville one time, back in July of 2023. The weekend was not all full of bad news for Florida, however. The Gators were predicted to land Heze Kent, the top offensive tackle from Georgia in the 2026 cycle. That prediction came true on Saturday, as he picked the Gators over the Texas Longhorns, Miami and the Florida State Seminoles. Florida's class is led by four-star corner CJ Bronaugh, four-star edge rusher KJ Ford, four-star defensive lineman Kendall Guervil and Kent. The Gators face Long Island in their season opener on August 30 to start year four of the Billy Napier story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 13, 2025, where it first appeared.

4-star Buford athlete down to 3 schools days before commitment

Four-star athlete Tyriq Green is nearing his commitment date of July 12. Ahead of Green's big decision, he's narrowed down his choices to three final schools: the Georgia Bulldogs, Auburn Tigers and Miami Hurricanes. Green plays high school football for Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. Green played for Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia, for his freshman and sophomore year of high school. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound athlete is ranked as the No. 151 recruit in the country, the No. 21 prospect in Georgia and the nation's 10th-best player at his position. The Buford star primarily plays safety and running back. Georgia already has a commitment from Buford offensive lineman Graham Houston and the Dawgs are hoping both players will play together again in college at UGA. Green also runs track at an elite level with Buford. The four-star athlete was part of Buford's 6A state championship-winning 4x400 meters relay team that posted the fastest time in 6A state history (39.81 seconds). It is unclear what position Green will play in college, but he has outstanding speed. Green plays well through contact as a rusher and is capable of delivering bit hits as a safety. The speedster is predicted to commit to Georgia football, but we all know that recruiting can change in an instant, so we'll have to wait until Saturday to know where Green ends up. Green plans to announce his commitment at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 12. Follow UGAWire on Instagram or Threads for more Georgia recruiting coverage!

2026 four-star athlete lists among among top three schools

2026 four-star athlete Tyriq Green reportedly cut his list of preferred schools down to three on Tuesday. The Buford, GA native, who is considered a consensus top 40 recruit from the talent-rich state of Georgia, told college football reporter Riley Alberts his decision was down to his home state school of Georgia, Miami, and Auburn. Likely a safety at the next level, Green has also spent time as a running back during his high school career at nationally ranked Buford High School. Helping the Wolves to a 12-2 record last season, Green secured a team-high 5 interceptions while rushing for 527 yards and 8 touchdowns in 11 games. While the 5-foot-10, 191-pound high school senior still has plenty of time to make his college decision, his announcement regarding a final three shows an ultimate verdict is looming. Auburn first made an offer to Green in November of 2023, before he finally came down to the Plains for an official visit this May. Green visited Miami (June 6) and Georgia (June 13) in the consecutive weeks after, giving the home-state Bulldogs the edge in the category of recency bias as well as proximity to home. The four-star recruit has not announced a timeline for his eventual commitment date.
