FILAMENT HEALTH ENTERS INTO EXCLUSIVE LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA AT BIRMINGHAM FOR DATA FROM A CLINICAL TRIAL OF PSILOCYBIN FOR THE TREATMENT OF COCAINE USE DISORDER
The data supports Filament's PEX010 drug development program targeting stimulant use disorders PEX010 is a first-in-class botanical psilocybin drug candidate currently under investigation in 52 clinical trials worldwide for 14 mental health indications VANCOUVER, BC, June 17, 2025 /CNW/ - Filament Health Corp. (OTC: FLHLF) ("Filament" or the "Company"), a clinical–stage natural psychedelic drug development company, today announced that it has entered into an exclusive global license agreement with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for intellectual property related to a recently completed Phase 2 placebo-controlled clinical trial of psilocybin as a treatment for cocaine use disorder (CUD). The study investigated the safety and efficacy of a single-dose of psilocybin compared to placebo comparator in 40 adult patients with severe CUD. The trial was led by Principal Investigator Peter Hendricks, Ph.D., University Professor and Heersink Endowed Chair of Psychiatry at the UAB Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology, and a globally recognized expert in psychedelic-assisted therapies for addiction. "The results of the study demonstrated that psilocybin was well-tolerated and that a single dose resulted in a significant and durable reduction in cocaine use among people with CUD who were representative of cocaine users from the Deep South region of the United States. This is notable as most psychedelic trials fail to recruit participants representative of the population of those who could benefit from care.," said Dr. Hendricks. "We expect to have our data published in a peer-reviewed journal later this year and are excited to contribute to the science and possibly help bring to the clinic a promising treatment for cocaine and other stimulant use disorders in the future." Filament has obtained rights to access and use the data, know-how, and associated intellectual property from the clinical study, in furtherance of the Company's own proprietary development programs in stimulant use disorders. The partnership will also enable Dr. Hendricks to serve as an advisor to Filament Health and to advance research into other substance use conditions. "This agreement marks an important step in our mission to advance PEX010 and our other programs for the treatment of patients with stimulant use disorders," said Benjamin Lightburn, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Filament. "We are a leading developer of psychedelic drug candidates for substance use disorders and other mental health conditions. The positive data from Dr. Hendricks' trial, as well as his knowledge of clinical practices and ongoing counsel, will be significant assets in facilitating the advancement of our research." Clemson basketball announces the hiring of Jon Uribe as new Director of Sport Performance
Clemson basketball announces the hiring of Jon Uribe as new Director of Sport Performance Clemson men's basketball has added a new face to its staff, as head coach Brad Brownell announced the hiring of Jon Uribe as the program's director of basketball sport performance. 'I'm excited to add Jon to our staff,' Brownell said. 'He has been mentored by some outstanding coaches in the field and has been a part of some highly successful programs, leading basketball sport performance at Furman, UAB and Louisiana-Lafayette. Having been a college basketball player, Jon understands how to use the weight room and translate that to elite performance on the court.' Uribe spent the 2024-25 season at Furman in the same role, helping guide the Paladins to a 25-10 finish, an appearance in the Southern Conference Tournament title game, and a berth in the NIT. Before that, he served four seasons as the head strength and conditioning coach for UAB men's basketball. His impact was felt immediately, with UAB setting a school record with 27 wins in 2022 and earning an NCAA Tournament bid. The Blazers followed that with a 29-win season in 2023 and a run to the NIT finals. In 2023-24, UAB returned to the NCAA Tournament after another strong campaign. Uribe was instrumental in the development of pro standouts Jordan 'Jelly' Walker and former Tiger Trey Jemison during his time in Birmingham. Prior to UAB, Uribe spent three seasons at Louisiana-Lafayette, where he helped the Ragin' Cajuns win the 2018 Sun Belt title and notch a program-best 27 victories. Uribe also brings SEC experience, having worked as an assistant strength coach for Florida men's basketball in 2016-17. That year, the Gators reached the Elite Eight and finished with 27 wins. His strength and conditioning career began at Arizona, where he interned with multiple Olympic sports. A former college basketball player at Texas Permian Basin, Uribe earned a degree in exercise science before completing a master's in sport management from Florida. He holds multiple certifications, including NSCA CSCS, USA Weightlifting Level I, fascial stretch therapy, and CSCCA strength and conditioning coaching. -some quotes, information courtesy of Clemson Athletic Communications Contact us @Clemson_Wire on X, and like our page on Facebook for ongoing coverage of Clemson Tigers news and notes, plus opinions.

Expecting parents are expecting the worst with UAB and UnitedHealthcare negotiations
BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) – UAB facilities across Alabama could become out-of-network for the thousands of Alabamians insured by UnitedHealthcare. 'Obviously, the hope is they find an agreement and I don't have to swap providers,' Christian Holly said. Holly and his wife are getting ready to welcome their first child into the world. Their due date is in October and their doctors are at UAB. 'My wife was big on using UAB,' Holly said. 'They've got the best trauma center, the best neo-natal care, all of those sorts of things.' UAB and UnitedHealthCare (UHC) have until July 31 to finalize an agreement. Each party sent out statements that read in part: 'We are deeply disappointed that UnitedHealthcare has created this uncertainty for our patients…UAB Hospital alone provides more than $100 million a year in care for which it is not paid; and United reimburses care providers less than other insurers.' – UAB Statement. 'UAB continues to drive up health care costs for people and businesses throughout Alabama through its acquisitions…Our goal is to reach an agreement that is affordable for consumers and employers while providing continued, uninterrupted network access to UAB.' – UHC Statement. The two parties have seven weeks to make that happen. 'If this doesn't get squared away in the next month, we'll have to swap providers,' Holly said. If UAB becomes out-network for the Holly's, they have two options: pay out of pocket or find a new doctor to deliver their first born. But it's possible both could happen. In the chance his wife needs emergency medical attention during delivery, or their child needs emergency medical care – they'll have to go to UAB and pay out of pocket. 'If she does have an issue, they'll have to swap her to UAB so it just adds a lot of worry to everything,' Holly said. CBS 42 News requested the total number of Alabamians who are insured through UHC. As of Thursday, we were still waiting for that number. However, thousands of retired public school teachers and their dependents are insured through UHC. 'We have about 80,000 lives that are covered currently through PHIP United Plan,' The Government Media Relations Manger for the Alabama Education Association, Allison King said. Anyone who worked for the Alabama Public School system for at least 25 years qualifies for Public Education Employees' Health Insurance Plan King said. That plan provides those state retirees with UHC. 'We'll certainly be working to advocate on the behalf of our retirees and make sure they have quality programs both in service providers and health care options,' King said. Yaxel Lendeborg discusses Michigan basketball roster, sets Final Four goal for 2025
Yaxel Lendeborg discusses Michigan basketball roster, sets Final Four goal for 2025 Yaxel Lendeborg isn't wasting any time getting acclimated to Michigan basketball. The No. 1 player in the transfer portal had committed to the Wolverines earlier in the process, despite still appearing to be NBA-bound as he departed UAB. Yet, he ended up withdrawing and will play in Ann Arbor for one season after all. As it turns out, he already has a pretty good idea of what the roster looks like, what it can do, and how it can help him improve as a player. "I feel like I have a pretty good knowledge of it right now," Lendeborg told Brian Boesch on the Defend the Block Podcast. "I know our bigs are really athletic, really long shot blockers. A lot of us are pretty good rebounders, so it's going to be a little bit of a battle on the boards. "We have Elliot Cadeau, who's -- I think they said, the best passer, the best passer in college basketball, which is amazing as well. Something that I could probably try to take from him, just see what he sees on the floor, something to learn about. And, we have a lot of good shooters like Nimari Burnett. I think they said he shot 45 percent, which is ridiculous. "We just got Trey (McKenney), (Mr.) Basketball -- you know, that's great. I haven't looked into many of the other guys as much, but I know that we have a good roster formulated, and we have a lot of length, which is something great as well." Coming from UAB, Lendeborg isn't used to his team having high and lofty expectations. But the Wolverines are coming off a Big Ten Tournament championship and a Sweet 16 run. Now, those expectations are risin,g and the program is aiming higher. With Lendeborg on the roster, that helps elevate the program, as well. And he's not shying away from heightened prospects when it comes to what the maize and blue can do in 2025-26. "Oh, yeah. I'm super excited," Lendeborg said. "You know, "I feel like it's giving me more of a chip on my shoulder to try to be the best that I can be, just not let the fans down, not let the people that support us down, you know. So I am super excited. I'm happy to get up to that stage. I made a promise as well that I want to at least take us to the Final Four. So, I'm going to do whatever I can to get us there." Lendeborg joins transfers Cadeau, Morez Johnson Jr., and Aday Mara, as well as freshmen McKenney, Winters Grady, and Patrick Liburd as new faces who will reshape the Michigan basketball roster in 2025-26.
