UAE and Lebanon 'working towards easing travel restrictions'
The UAE and Lebanon are working towards lifting travel restrictions, which include a UAE-imposed ban on Emiratis travelling to Lebanon, following a meeting of the two heads of state. A joint statement said the countries are keen to facilitate ease of travel to the benefit of both nations. "The two sides agreed to allow citizens to travel after taking the necessary measures to facilitate movement between the two countries and establishing appropriate mechanisms for this," the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. On Wednesday, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed and President Joseph Aoun met in Abu Dhabi. Mr Aoun's government seeks to boost relations with the Gulf after years of internal political turmoil in Lebanon. In a conversation with newspaper editors, including The National, Mr Aoun said he had spoken to Emirati officials about easing UAE travel and work visas for Lebanese citizens. He has also sought support for the Lebanese armed forces, and wants to encourage Emirati businesses to consider investing in Lebanon.
