Jordan, UAE conduct new airdrops of aid to Gaza

The Jordanian Armed Forces, in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, carried out two humanitarian airdrops on Tuesday to deliver essential aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The airdrops were conducted using two C-130 aircraft from the Royal Jordanian Air Force and the UAE Air Force, carrying approximately 15 tons of food and basic supplies. These efforts, carried out in coordination with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization, are part of Jordan's ongoing commitment to support the Palestinian people and alleviate the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. With Tuesday's operation, the total number of airdrops conducted by Jordan since the start of the war on Gaza has reached 129, in addition to 269 joint airdrops coordinated with allied and friendly nations.

Planes from Jordan and UAE Airdrop Humanitarian Aid into Gaza

Two planes from the Jordanian and UAE Air Force airdropped 17 tons of humanitarian aid in Gaza on Monday, Jordan's military said. The aid packages come as hunger continues to soar across the enclave. The airdrops took place for the second day as Israel faces increasing pressure over Gaza's humanitarian crisis. However, Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, warned that airdrops are 'expensive, inefficient and can even kill starving civilians.' The 17 tons of airdropped aid amounts to less than one aid truck carrying food, based on the World Food Program's calculation of nearly 19 tons per truck. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Monday that Germany intends to conduct an airlift of humanitarian aid to Gaza along with Jordan. Merz didn't provide details of the plan after a meeting of his security Cabinet, but said his defense minister will consult with France and Britain, 'which are also prepared to make available such an airlift for food and medical goods.' Jordan's King Abdullah II is due to meet Merz in Berlin on Tuesday. Merz said Israel's move to lift some aid restrictions is 'an important first step' but 'further ones must follow quickly.' He also stressed the need for a comprehensive ceasefire. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that Spain will airdrop 12 tons of food aid into Gaza from Jordan later this week, via Spanish air force planes. Sanchez acknowledged this isn't a solution to hunger, but hopes it offers 'minimal relief' alongside aid from other nations. Spain's government has been a vocal critic of Israel's war in Gaza and has repeatedly called for a ceasefire. On Sunday, 180 trucks carrying aid entered Gaza, according to the Israeli military body in charge of overseeing humanitarian aid. As the death toll from two years of war in Gaza nears 60,000, a growing number of people are dying from starvation and malnutrition, Gaza health authorities say, with images of starving children shocking the world and fueling international criticism of Israel over sharply worsening conditions. On Monday, the Gaza health ministry said at least 14 people had died in the past 24 hours of starvation and malnutrition, bringing the war's death toll from hunger to 147, including 88 children, most in just the last few weeks.

Starmer's spokesman, Dave Pares, said Britain supports Trump's efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, and the plan aims 'to turn a ceasefire into lasting peace." The plan was discussed by Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Friday. Starmer will discuss it with allies 'including the US and Arab states" and at an emergency meeting of his Cabinet later this week, Pares said. Details of the plan have not been made public. Starmer is under growing pressure to follow France in recognizing a Palestinian state, a move both Israel and the U.S. have condemned. UAE, Jordan Airlift Humanitarian Airdrops over Gaza amid Starvation Crisis

Two Jordanian and one Emirati plane airlifted 25 tons of humanitarian aid over the Gaza Strip on Sunday, according to a statement by the Jordanian army. The Royal Jordanian Air Force and UAE Air Force C-130 aircraft successfully carried out three humanitarian airdrops full of food and basic necessities amid the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. The airdrops represent an integral part of Jordan's continued relief efforts, carried out in coordination with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization and international partners, to support the Palestinian people and alleviate their sufferings. On Saturday, the United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan noted that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached a 'critical and unprecedented level.' 'Air drops are resuming once more, immediately,' Al-Nahyan said. He further affirmed their commitment to ensuring that essential aid reaches those who are in a dire need, whether through land, air or sea. Israel also announced on Saturday that it started aid airdrops to Gaza and is currently taking several other steps to alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe in the Palestinian enclave. Moreover, Israel's Foreign Ministry said the military would 'apply a 'humanitarian pause' in civilian centers and in humanitarian corridors' on Sunday morning. Dozens of Gazans including children have lost their soles due to malnutrition throughout the 21 months of war, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War in Gaza in 2023, the Israeli strikes have killed more than 59,000 Palestinians wounded more than 142,000, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
