Navy staffer held for leaking Op Sindoor details to Pak handler

Jaipur: An Indian Navy staffer posted in naval headquarters in Delhi was arrested in Jaipur for allegedly leaking defence-related sensitive information to a Pakistani handler in exchange for money, a police official said Thursday. Vishal Yadav, an Upper Division Clerk (UDC) in the Directorate of Dockyard at the Navy building, allegedly also shared details on Operation Sindoor -- strikes carried out by the Indian Armed Forces in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Inspector General of Police (CID-Security) Vishnu Kant Gupta said Yadav, originally from Rewari in Haryana, leaked the classified information to a female Pakistani handler posing as an Indian woman. He was arrested on Wednesday in Jaipur and will be subjected to a joint probe by multiple agencies. "Yadav confessed to receiving approximately Rs 2 lakh in total for the information he passed on," Gupta said. "This included Rs 50,000 for leaking information related to Operation Sindoor," the IGP said, adding some of the payments were also made in cryptocurrency. Intelligence sources revealed that Yadav was first approached on Facebook. The Pakistani handler sent a friend request under the fake identity "Priya Sharma". The two started communicating regularly and eventually shifted to WhatsApp and later to Telegram, a platform known for its encryption-enabled messages.

Money, social media trail exposes spy's links with ISI

Jaipur: Intelligence agencies are conducting a detailed investigation into the financial links between a Pakistani ISI handler and Vishal Yadav, an Upper Division Clerk (UDC) posted at the Naval Headquarters in Delhi. Yadav, who was arrested in Delhi and brought to Jaipur Wednesday, allegedly received money directly in his bank account and through cryptocurrency transactions for spying for Pakistan. The money trail played a crucial role in leading investigators to his arrest. Suspicion over Yadav's activities surfaced during a review of Facebook accounts flagged in a 2022 espionage case involving one Ravi Prakash Meena, a Class IV employee posted at Sena Bhawan in Delhi. Meena was arrested by the Rajasthan police's intelligence wing in Oct 2022 for allegedly leaking sensitive military information to Pakistani handlers. He was lured into the network by a woman identifying herself as Anjali Tiwari on social media, who later moved their conversation to encrypted platforms. Investigators probing Meena's case placed several suspicious social media accounts under surveillance, including one named "Priya Sharma." Yadav's name came up during this review. As the surveillance on Yadav deepened, officials found that he too shared sensitive military information, including updates on military operations such as Op Sindoor. Payments were made to Yadav in small instalments, ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 for low-level information and up to Rs 50,000 for high-value intelligence. Some of the transactions were made using USDT cryptocurrency. A senior official said that Yadav is a resident of a village in Rewari district, Haryana. His family, currently based in Rewari city, includes several members who served in the police force. His father, a former assistant sub-inspector in the Haryana police, took voluntary retirement about a decade ago. Yadav joined the Navy five years ago after clearing the SSB examination. During a forensic examination of Yadav's phone, investigators recovered encrypted messages, financial records and sensitive files. His extensive involvement in online gaming also surfaced during the probe. Yadav was presented in court Thursday and remanded to four days of police custody.

Cryptocurrency Trail From Another Espionage Case: How Navy Staffer Recruited By Pak Spy Was Caught

The Indian Navy clerk posted at the naval headquarters in New Delhi was already under surveillance for two years due to his online gaming habits It was his addiction to online gaming and a cryptocurrency trail that led to his downfall. The Indian Navy staffer arrested for allegedly working with a Pakistani spy was already under surveillance for two years due to his internet habits. Vikas Yadav, an Upper Division Clerk (UDC) posted at the naval headquarters in New Delhi was nabbed from Jaipur for allegedly leaking defence-related sensitive information to a Pakistani handler in exchange for money. This allegedly included details on Operation Sindoor – strikes carried out by the Indian armed forces in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. In the latest case, police have said Yadav started spying for Pakistan because he needed money to fund his addiction to online gaming. The Pakistani handler, who was posing as an Indian woman under the fake identity of 'Priya Sharma", even made some payments to him in cryptocurrency for the exchange of information. 'He was lured by money and ended up leaking sensitive information from the Navy headquarters," Inspector General of Police (CID-Security) Vishnu Kant Gupta said.
